....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

I was going to post but Flash is howling so I don't have time!

triceratops · 23/11/2005 10:35

Is anybody managing to do any christmas shopping? I have tried to do some on the net but it is really hard to concentrate on anything not baby related.

BigBumpBonnie · 23/11/2005 11:42

Haven't bought one present yet, trice. Might go shopping when dh is home to babysit as I am def not tackling shops with a toddler and baby in tow Looking forward to it this year as dd1 is 2 and a half and is starting to take real notice of the decorations and lights that are around. Can't wait to get the tree up for her.

Ruby's skin seems to be getting better thank god. She was starting to get the appearance of a leper and it was funny to see peoples faces who peeked in the pram to look at the 'lovely' baby The doctor said it was perfectly normal and she'd seen babies a lot worse She gave me a big tub of good old E45 cream and that really seems to be doing the trick. Her colic seems to have settled down as well which is great. She's still waking regularly through the night but is going back off afterwards and has been generally settled during the day. I am seriously considering going back to work part time though for a bit of a break!

It is funny how different it is with two to look after. When dd1 was a baby I dressed her in pretty little clothes every morning, she had a bath every evening and was constantly being held. DD2 only gets a clean babygro if she pukes on the one she's got on and only has a bath about twice a week. She only really gets picked up to be fed and then put back down again. I really haven't got the time! She must be happy though as we've been getting the biggest smiles over the last couple of days and she's is really trying to communicate with loads of cute noises.

Hope everyone else is ok. It's been getting awfully quiet on here lately

I've done a lot of my Xmas shopping, just need to get my two sisters and their partners, mum and dad, and something for DH. Sounds like a lot left but when you look at how many relatives I have, plus all the inlaws, its a small proportion!!

mrow · 23/11/2005 15:59

I am considering using the new baby as an excuse not to christmas shop this year!!!!

YOKEFLEET · 23/11/2005 16:00

I am really sad I know but I had all my xmas shopping done and wrapped in July when I had a week off work!! I just knew I'd not get it done later in the pregnancy and def not once little one had arrived!! Even delivered some Xmas cards at the weekend when we went back to Yorkshire. The only thing I have to do now it sign all the gift tags as we didn't know what flavour baby we were having!

morningpaper · 23/11/2005 20:13

BBB: I so agree with you about second babies! For starters, I keep forgetting that I HAVE a baby and keep thinking that people are cooing at ME and not the baby in my sling! Then I forget her name ALL THE TIME. Then I put her down and forget I've got her AT ALL. I feel a bit bad about the lack of physical contact (in comparison with dd1) and have taken to picking her up occasionally when she is happy so that she doesn't just get attention when she is grizzly!

I am also loving the gurgling and smiles - aren't babies CUTE?!

Moomin · 23/11/2005 20:17

ditto. I even arranged a night away with my best friend in the new year and told dh he wouldn't need to take the day off as dd1 would be in school and mil could pick her up. dh then said 'and who will be looking after your baby?' COMPLETELY forgot about her!!! Glad I'm not the only one who forgets her name either! How awful...

Moomin · 23/11/2005 20:19

oh yes, and can anyone give any advice on this for me? esp 2nd timers...

morningpaper · 23/11/2005 20:20

lol @ Moomin!

SusiS · 23/11/2005 21:35

pheewww, i am glad you all said that! i feel so bad sometimes that i don't give much attention to dd
just like you said bonnie: only change when dead-dirty; contact mostly for feeding, bath 2x/week.
and do tell dp though to hold her and talk to her so she gets some attention

and just like yours: she seems so content! and awww what lovely smiles and coos we've got the last few days!!!

Elf1981 · 25/11/2005 08:40

Wow, it's quiet on here lately!
Maybe all our babies are programmed to cry when we log onto mumsnet!!

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 25/11/2005 11:53

Well we are having major wind problems.... other than that we are not too bad!

Sleeping fairly well in her own cot in her own room!

Jessica finally slept through the night last night for the first time in 16 months!!!

SusiS · 25/11/2005 11:54

hey girls!
my little girl seems to be constipated
had a few rough nights lately; around 3am she wakes up and moves around and moans and whimpers till about 5ish when she finally get at least some wind out. - after good 30min massaging her tummy yday she finally managed to poo but oh boy, poor girl actually cried

BUT we finally managed to feed her 5oz a bottle and she doesn't vomit as often!
stopped bf completly now - just nothing's coming out

but when she is awake for a longer period she seems to be very interested in everthing and loves music and dancing around
and we are getting huge smiles now!!! and some cooing - very cute

SusiS · 25/11/2005 11:56

wow jarm; that's great news!!!
i hope it stays that way for you

i wish caitlins room was finished finally - all the noise she makes all night long

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 25/11/2005 11:57

I hope so too Susis!

Had Rebecca weighed this week - 9lbs 3.5oz!!! Was quite amazed really, 2lbs up on her birth weight in 4 weeks!!!

Elf1981 · 25/11/2005 13:15

Evie is still in our room but her room is finished. I just cant bring myself to put her in it yet!! I might try her on Saturday night, see how it goes.
Still breastfeeding, no probs with nothing coming out, it gushes like a fountain! I have a very powerful let down, my DH has to be careful when I'm feeding if he is in the same room, just in case Evie gets bored and comes off before my boobs realise its time to stop!
Evie was seven weeks yesterday, so its count down to the injections, which I'm not looking foward to!

BigBumpBonnie · 25/11/2005 17:55

Ruby's injection appointment card came through today. She's having them on the 7th dec. Looks like dh will have to take the morning off work as i can't bear seeing her in pain I'm such a wimp!

She has now got herself into a routine. She has her last bottle at 10.30 at night and then goes to sleep until 4am when she has another one. She will go back off then until 7. This suits me fine as I know I've got a good chunk of sleep when I put her down. She is much more settled in her cot than she was in her moses basket but is in our room. She will be sharing a room with her sister but I'm going to wait until her sister's a bit older (for ruby's own safety!).

She is really putting on a lot of weight and is even starting to grow out of her 0-3 mth clothes already. She is much more aware and awake now and smiles all the time.

Just wish the weather wasn't so cold so we could enjoy going out more.

YOKEFLEET · 25/11/2005 20:15

Thomas has his jabs on Tuesday, I aren't looking forward to it either.
I aren't expecting a good night tonight as Thomas has spent nearly all day asleep, mind you that is no suprise really as he was awake most of the night! At least with it being weekend I will get to catch up on a bit of sleep tomorrow as DH will take Thomas down stairs for his 7ish feed and leave me in bed for as long as I need (that might be 10pm tomorrow the way I feel at the moment)

morningpaper · 25/11/2005 20:37

6 week check with haelth visitor today - baby has put on over 2lb since birth which I am CHUFFED to bits about. She is a great feeder, so much easier than dd1 because she's so FAST at feeding.

Got my boobs confused today though and fed twice from the same side - the other side was nearly EXPLODING after an hour or so, argh it was agony! I was moaning about it to my (childless) brother in law who was a bit mortified I think.

Elf1981 · 25/11/2005 23:15

MP - when my DD started sleeping through the usual 2:00 feed, my poor boobs were at breaking point. I'd wake up in agony with my arms about three foot away from my sides as the sides of my boobs had swelled so much!!

YOKEFLEET · 28/11/2005 08:20

Thomas is 8 weeks old today and is sleeping worse through the night then when he was 5 weeks!! He has his injections tomorrow and will also be weighed, we looked at some of the photos taken of him whilst we were in hospital and I can't get over just how much he has changed in such a short period of time.

Elf1981 · 28/11/2005 09:02

Evie had herself in a little sleep routine and was sleeping from 8:00 until 6:00
I stupidly let her get out of the routine on Thursday (we had visitors) and now I'm kicking myself, back to crying sessions in the evening and a 3:00 feed. Hopefully she'll get back into her routine soon!

triceratops · 28/11/2005 09:17

Flash is a really good baby. She doesn't have a routine at all. Some days she feeds almost constantly and other days she just sleeps. I am still waiting for her first proper smile but she is very alert and definately recognises (and likes) my face. She has fitted in really well with the family, ds loves her madly and so do the rest of us.

Reuseable nappies are great, they are so much better than they were four years ago, especially the fluffles. The best buy this time round though has to be the tummy tub bath. She really loves it and I can virtually let go of her which means I can wash her easily, it stays warm for ages and is easy to fill and empty.

What did you buy but not use and what was your best buy?

YOKEFLEET · 28/11/2005 09:40

Best buy - Mamas & Papas Pramette, we have been exploring all over!!!
Waste of money - Moses basket, he wasn't even in it 6 weeks (was a gift from work so at least I didn't buy it!)
My wasted buy was a baby bath (it was reduced in Boots) but it has only been used twice as I usually see my parents every day and they love bathing Thomas in the normal bath and he loves it too!
