....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

I still have a lovely sleepy girl. but ds was a colicky baby so I feel for all of you who are struggling. It does get better after three months.

I am co sleeping too mp. I know all the research about the dangers but it feels right to me, and Flash really likes it. LLL are all in favour and their advice has prooved very useful in the past.

I registered Flash this morning finally and now have to get her passport photo done. We are going skiing in feb with any luck.

Jockey · 17/11/2005 14:45

Hi everyone. Relieved to see that I'm not the only one co-sleeping (yes, the cot does make an exellent glasses/book holder). Also, I find it much easier feeding baby lying down too - she seems much less windy this way.

She also has a cold, and but has had two really good sleeps yesterday and today - in her car seat! I actually drove her around in the end & took my ds to a drive-through McDonalds. When we got home, we sat in the drive for a bit enjoying the peace (neighbours must think we're bonkers).

Hope things improve for everyone very soon...

tiggyhop · 17/11/2005 19:15

Have people tried gripewater for wind? It's old fashioned but was brilliant for ds2. Have had day from hell with Kate and she is currently screaming (because exhausted after day from hell...)

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 18/11/2005 07:23

WOO HOO!!!

We slept last night! Becky went down in her cot in her own room at 9.30pm and didnt wake until 3.15am.... went straight back to sleep after only 2oz milk and that was her til 6.45am..... how pleased am i! Only one downside - now ive had a decent nights sleep - I WANT MORE!!!!

Jockey · 18/11/2005 07:51

It worked! Well done J&RM. I know what you mean about wanting more... I 'm sure I could sleep for a week.

Didn't have a brilliant night but I reckon Sophie's cold is going to get worse before it gets better. Will try the "steam" method.

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 18/11/2005 08:18

She is so much more settled so think she has got over the worst - the long sleeps have obviously helped!

Going to stay at my dads tonight so he can spend some time with the girls, and give me and DH a bit of a rest, as well as takign Jess to Wakey Warehouse to run off some energy this afternoon!

Here's hoping all our babies are setlling nicely

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 09:34

I just had the biggest post natal hormoney screaming snotty tearful...thing I've just rushed around like a headless chicken geting everybody ready to go to an early group - I was quite nervous cos we were going to attempt to go to two groups in a row with me expressing etc... they were right a~~~holes about getting dressed and fed and then finally all ready just enough time and DS has only gone and done away with the only bloody keys in the house!!!! Cue post natal hormoney snotty tearful madness as I tramp around the house kicking things and screaming ... I'd been very cheerful prior to that in general! Maybe we'll make the afternoon one if I can find them anywhere... I called DS stupid

We have have mistress collicy windy bottom staying with us at the moment too - all night she goes oooh feed me - WAH! Ohhh my tummy's windy - WAAAAAAAAAH! OH my dear GOD I farted - WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! It's hellish!!

Feel sorry for everyone else with collicy ones and everyone with nasty colds, specially poor little jess!

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 09:44

Right I'm off to look for keys and sit expressing with everyone still in their coats lol we are going out.... I'm not going to be silly and then get all phobic about going out cos it went tits up once lol gives self pep talk!

triceratops · 18/11/2005 10:13

I used some saline drops for dds blocked up nose and they made her sneeze out a huge amount of snot like a horror movie. I've never seen anything like it

FA you need to take a trip out and get some spare keys cut, and then hide them. I keep a set in my knicker drawer so dh can't go off with them.

hester · 18/11/2005 13:50

fastasleep, you make me laugh...

Having read some of these posts (sadly no time to fully catch up yet) I'm counting my blessings. No colic or colds here (though we do get very stuck in that feed-wind-hiccup-wah cycle) but she IS now in boots held together with a steel bar, despite having been told this wouldn't be necessary. They weigh a ton and must be worn 23 hours a day for a couple of months, then at nights. She hates them. So do I.

Oh lord, she's crying. Must go.

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 16:37

We got to the group after scrabbling in a kitchen drawer and discovering the spare key (still not found the other set!)

DS got his own back all afternoon (after my yelling fit this morning) by going 'Abi' 'AAAAAABI' and pointing at me and when I went 'I'm mummy Theo' he went 'NO.... Abi' not fit to be his mother! lol!!

Aww Hester those boots are awful, it won't be forever though, it might feel like it now, but sooner than you think they'll just be on at night...

pogface · 18/11/2005 16:50

hello, im rather new here, bab was born 30th of octber...just wondering if anyone else is finding it impossible to get them to burp, only to find all the wind gets trapped in lower down? my ds spends all night straining and panting to no effect, but passes lots of wind when he poos. its heartbreaking to see him in pain. sleeps like a log during the afternoon tho - i dont get it!! is it colic?? will colic drops help?

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 16:54

Mine does that! Hence the new name 'mistress collicy windy bottom' don't know if it's collic or just trapped wind.. although isn't trapped wind collic anyway... oh I don't know!

abigail1 · 18/11/2005 22:06

Hi there everyone! Hope you don't mind me joining in. Only just discovered this site but having read the thread this all seems so familiar :0 My dd Abigail was born on the 10th October, but we have been through the emergency caesarean / special care baby unit / b/feeding problems / switch to bottles / screaming hissy fits / cold / chest infection / and just about everything else that you care to mention! I can totally sympathise with you all!
Having said all that Abbie seems to have turned a corner this week, she is taking between 3 and 6 ozs every 3 or 4 hours and for the past 2 nights has slept for about 6 hours!
Tried Gina Ford and Baby Whisperer but in the end gave up and let dd lead the way - I take the good bits from both and ignore the bits that I don't agree with - seems to work for us!
Sorry this is such a long post - it's just nice to find somewhere to chat!

SusiS · 18/11/2005 22:32

evening ladies! wow, i am still awake
ds in bed since 7pm and little miss since 8pm - i don't want to jinx anything so i am not saying anything about her sleeping through the night or therelike!
well, not EVERY night anyways; had a very bad night last night - awake 1-3am and again at 5; and then at 5.30 ds was ready for the day - oh joy!

welcome pogface!! and yes, i don't get ANY wind out of caitlin. and then 30min later she vomits everything out again - ALTHOUGH today we managed 2 feeds without it 'woheyyy'
seems like i am giving up on bf'ing already - just nothing in there - oh well, caitlin isn't bothered getting bottles so who cares - and gives me a break too because dp can do feeds too

re wind: i have started a baby massage course; i'll give it a try and if it works i'll let you know

wow fastasleep, what a day! how many kids have you got? and what ages? - but well done on going out in the end!!!!

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 19/11/2005 09:24

WOO HOO!

Another fantastic night... Rebecca went down at 8.30pm and that was her until 1.20am, fed, went back to sleep and woke at 5.20am for a feed and that was her until 7.45am - AND she slept ALL day yesterday!!!

One very happy mummy here!

Elf1981 · 19/11/2005 09:31

Went out last night with some people from work, left Evie with DH about five, got home at eight (wasn't too late!). Felt nice to be out but I missed her sooooo much.
Evie hadn't poohed since Sunday and yesterday was in a lot of pain. Gave her 1oz of cooled boiled water, and out it all plopped while I was out, leaving DH to clean her up Got her well trained!

fastasleep · 19/11/2005 17:09

Lol @ the plopped on husband, mine always save it up for when they're sitting on him!

Susi I only have the two DS - 21 months just gone and DD 6 weeks, you'd think I had more the amount I moan (I am only young though that's my excuse lol)

Hello to another person who gave my name to their baby Abigail's a great name (although must say I prefer the sound of Abi or Abbie or however you choose spell it)

We're having the terrible twos and the terrible poos around here at the moment, luckily the terrible twos monster has been taken away for the night so that just leaves us with a noisy boo who's scared of her own poo and a rather nasty lingering smell about the place..

Hope you're all doing well, yay for little Becky sleeping for you!!

triceratops · 20/11/2005 10:32

After my experience with ds who has a large red lumpy birthmark on his face and another brown one on his arm I was pleased when Flash arrived without a blemish.

Now though she has grown a hemangioma on her chest which gets bigger every day, it is already the size of a cherry. She has a brown one on her bum as well shaped like a pig.

At least it is not on her face. I just hope that this one doesn't get all ulcerated like ds did. . Does anyone else have a birthmark?

Hester - I hope your little girl gets used to wearing her contraption, and that you can cope with seeing her in it.

hester · 20/11/2005 19:25

Thanks triceratops. Actually, we're not getting better - she keeps wriggling out of her boots and goes absolutely hysterical when they are put on. Last night she cried on and off through the night, only stopping when she managed to kick them off. When I pick her up to comfort her she is inconsolable; shivering, shuddering and clutching to me.

I feel like a monster . And am dreading being told that it has not worked because she keeps kicking them off, and so mujst start again from the beginning.

All attempts at imposing routines re. time and place of sleep are now off. I feel I must just comfort her - and try to stay sane myself.

I know babies suffer far worse, but I am not enjoying this At All.

triceratops · 20/11/2005 20:54

That sounds awful Hester. They must be really uncomfortable for her, poor little mite. I think you are right to ignore the routine, lots of cuddles and love sound to be in order. Don't neglect to look after yourself in all this - it must be emotionally draining. Its bad enough when they are healthy.

Flash just had a nosebleed caused by her cold and then vomited copious quantities of bloody mucous all over the sofa. I freaked. But apparantly it is quite normal and nothing to worry about. My baby is destined for a career in horror special effects.

morningpaper · 20/11/2005 21:52

All our babies seem to have colds - do you think it's just something about their ages? Mine sounds like a piglet.

Hester I'm so sorry you are going through this with your lovely baby. Give her some extra cuddles from us. xxx

BigBumpBonnie · 21/11/2005 10:45

I'm so sorry for your little girl, Hester. Hope everything works out ok, it must be really hard for you

Hope all the others with colds get better soon xx

Poor ruby has got the most awful skin, it's so red and angry looking and she keeps developing yellow scales all over her face. On top of this she's got some sort of eye infection. I've made us a doctors appointment this morning to get her checked over.

Apart from that she still wakes every 2and a half to three hours during the night for a feed. On the advice of hv she's having alternate bottles of hungry baby milk and first milk so she doesn't get constipated. She downs 6 oz of hungry baby milk at each feed during the night but it doesn't seem to keep her satisfied for any longer! Got here weighed on thursday and she has jumped onto the next line on her chart weighing in at a whopping 11 and a half pounds!! Really glad she's gaining weight just want to get her face sorted now.

Hope you all had nice weekendsx

nervousmum · 21/11/2005 14:54

Sorry to hear about all the poorly babies - i hope they all feel better soon.

Well, Joey is 8 weeks old today, and had his first set of vaccinations this morning. I was dreading taking him, but apart from a little cry when both needles went in, he's been absolutely fine. I just hope the next lot go so well! My Little Buddah now weighs 13Ib 2oz, and since Friday has turned a corner re sleeping patterns and has slept for six hour stretches overnight, which is lovely for me

Hope everyone else is ok, take care, NM x

Elf1981 · 22/11/2005 08:05

Nervousmum, congrats on Joey being such a baby for his injections!! I am dreading taking Evie. She's got her injections on 1st December, and on the 29th Nov she has her appointment at the hospital about her hips (she's having an ultrasound at this visit I think). My mum is coming on the 29th as it's going to be a long day, but I'm braving the injections alone and NOT looking forward to it!!
