....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

Swaddling worked?! Argh mine must just be a monster lol she was up all night with an iffy tummy... (I think she was just trying to drink too much TBH!)

My periods came back at exactly 4 weeks last time, although they were extra heavy with very long (up to 45 days) in between the whole time I was expressing... I'm feeling all pre periody too at the moment. I hope they're nicer than last time round!

Glad a few of us got something resembling sleep... 3 am pumping sessions should be made illegal. Just read through - 'pumping sessions' cracks up... oh dear I need sleep!

DH at work again this week after a week off... ARGH! Very busy week of trying to get blood tests, seeing HV, getting milk picked up, trying to get to two groups miles and miles away on the bus without a double buggy so I don't feel sorry for DS etc etc... pulls hair out in advance

Wish me luck in trying to work out expressing at groups with Theo wreaking havoc - I need it!

Hope you all have a nice night and a good week

Elf1981 · 06/11/2005 18:33

Evie slept last night from 11:30 til 5:50 which was bliss! If she hadn't been crying when I woke up, I would have been jumping out of bed so fast to check on her as she missed her 3:00 feed!

Been out today for lunch, entered the restaurant at 2:30 and got out at 5:30 as it was real slow service! Lovely food though. And I breastfed for the first time in public today!!

morningpaper · 07/11/2005 13:52

My dd is now nearly 4 weeks old and STILL sleeps most of the time. Is this OK?! She is gaining weight nicely. My first was ALWAYS awake so I find this very odd.

fastasleep · 07/11/2005 15:08

If she's waking for feeds she's fine! Some babies can sleep all day for months! Not mine though hurries to find screaming child and do tandem nappy changing lol

As long as she isn't looking like she's been on holiday in Spain and got a very nice orange tan she should be perfectly fine

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 07/11/2005 16:10

Becky has her nights and days mixed up me thinks!! From sleeping all the time for the first week, we are now into 3 hourly feeds - sleeps all day but decides at night once she has had her milk, she wants to be awake for between 1-2 hours!!! Driving me insane!

Got her at the doctors tomorrow because the evil health visitor turned up this morning (got a letter in the post today from her saying she would visit between 9-12 - letter arrived at 10.25 followed by HV at 10.30!) HV reckons we need a swab taken of Becky's belly button because it is still weeping..... the cord only dropped off last Tuesday..... isnt it a bit early to be panicking?!

Becky is still only taking 3-4oz per feed, but at every 3 hours im sure this is fine. The bloody HV has also reffered her to the eye clinic already because of the family history of squints..... all fine and well, but we havent noticed a problem with Becky yet, but it was already apparent with Jess at this stage - Jess grew out of hers by 10 months. Dont even get an appointment for Becky until 6 months anyway!!!

I've got a stinking cold and trying to keep as far away from the girls as possible, not easy when DH is hobbling around on crutches after his operation on friday!!!

Right, am off to get some rest now Becky has finally settled again..... if Jess will let me!!!

nervousmum · 07/11/2005 16:39

Saw my GP today for mine and Joey's six week check. He's healthy (yay!), i'm doing well, and having discussed contraceptive options she's put me on the mini-pill as i really don't want another bab at this early stage.

And the best thing is...i can now drive

Hope you feel better soon J&RM - i've had a sore throat for a few days and i'm dreading it developing into anything worse as DP is now back to work.

dd has a chest infection at the mo. The poor little thing can't catch her breath. The doc is visiting us later. . I hate that helpless feeling that you get when they are ill.

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 07/11/2005 18:11

awww trice.... thats not good. Its the bloody weather im sure of it!

Let us know what the doc says..... thinknig of you xxx

SusiS · 07/11/2005 19:48

awww hope everyone will be better soon!!

woheyyyy, caitlin has put 7oz in the last week!!! well pleased! last week you could actually see her ribs but this week after all that effort (2hourly feeds and 2 bottles additionally during the day (only minibottles; she wouldn't drink more than 2-3oz)) she looks so much better
she too seems to be asleep most of the time! even at nights
but her waky times seem to get more and longer; she does like when i sing to her and obviously when we walk about! gosh, with my left shoulder/arm i surely can compete with a bodybuilder

Moomin · 07/11/2005 22:18

does this sound normal? dd2 is taking between 4 & 5oz per feed and feeding every 3-4 hours, mostly more like 3. Today she was feeding every 2.5 hours! and she only sleeps really well if I have her in with me. The swaddling has now worked on and off for 3 nights but she makes a right noise about it so it's easier to just poke her in our bed, or we just get knackered with all the fannying about. When she's with me she's like a little mouse. Don't want this to become a habit though, but am aware it's not too much of a problem at this age. But will she get any better about where she sleeps if she starts taking longer between feeds?

Piggiesmum · 07/11/2005 23:04

Hester - great news about Ava's feet.

Can't believe some of you are thinking about a sequel! You must be very brave (or mad). We always planned to have about 1 year between ours (our age being a factor in not leaving it much longer) but thats plan is well out of the window. It'll be quite a while before we decided whether to even have another one never mind when.

Piccalilli · 08/11/2005 11:00

Hello all

Abigail now won't sleep for more than a twenty minute stretch at a time between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. - I'm at the end of my tether, I'm getting no sleep, dh and I barely see each other as one if us is always with the baby...any suggestions?? She has a bath at 6 followed by a big feed but just will not settle.

Elf1981 · 08/11/2005 11:22

the only thing I can think of is trying Abigail on infacol. perhaps she has bad wind after having a really big feed. Evelyn had awful wind the second night in hospital, screamed everytime I put her down. Is Abigail happier being in a more upright position when you or DH pick her up? You could try Infacol but it does take about a week to work, from what I've heard.

nervousmum · 08/11/2005 11:39

Horrible night, the worst since we first brought Joey home. DP went to work, and Joey just cried all night despite being well-fed etc. In the end i resorted to lying flat on my back with him lying on my stomach and chest just to get a few hours respite, which was not good for my poor back. I feel like a little old lady this morning, all hunched over and knackered.

Infacol is a god-send. Just don't do what we made the mistake of doing and stop it as soon as you think Bab's feeling better - we did this, within hours Joey was bad again, and it took another few days to re-load it into his system. Not good!

Hi All

Not doing any posting, just lurking. Glad to hear you're all doing so well.

Just remind me, how long does this sleep deprivation last!!!

fastasleep · 08/11/2005 15:32

Moomin adn everyone else with 20 minute sleepers, we're identical the only time any of us (inlcuding poor DS next door) got any sleep at all last night was when I fell asleep cuddling Sophia in bed... It's the only way she'll sleep at night, in the day though she's fine...

Oh and so you don't get worried about annoying bed sharing habits - with DS my lovely DH sat up cuddling him sleeping in a chair every night for months! (To give me a break while I had to express) And I always took him to bed with me for naps... yes he's the cuddliest little monster ever but he doesn't demand that we hug him when he's sleeping at all.

fastasleep · 08/11/2005 15:33

Blimey you can tell I've had no sleep in 5 weeks lol! HV coming tomorrow and the milkbank woman as I've overloaded the freezer again... this week is just too busy for a first whole week away from DH....argh... I didn't think it was possible to fall asleep sitting up with your breast sucked into a pump and your head flopped forwards onto your boob - but it is!!

triceratops · 08/11/2005 15:40

Just hold on til christmas RTL. I seem to remember that six weeks marks a turning point.

Cough, snuffle, vomit from dd - changes bedding yet again. The doc said that unless she goes limp and blue a cold won't hurt her. Plenty of nursing and cuddles.

morningpaper · 08/11/2005 16:40

Fa: You're a martyr! Can't believe you are doing so much expressing! I'm so impressed!

We're on the 20-minute sleep-feed-constant moaning until midnight every night, then she has been going for 2-3 hours at a time. Have to be up at 7ish for toddler though so I'm living on about 4 hours a night I suppose.

I'm VERY crabby.

Previously angelic toddler is turning into a psycho-teenage-bitch-daughter - what's going on? I guess she's desperate for attention but with the sleep deprivation I am turning into psycho-bitch mother in response.

Baby shouting - must dash.

Hope you are doing ok RTL. x

Anyone had any experience of The Baby Whisperer books? A friend suggested it, but i don't want to part with cash until i know a bit more...thanks

I've been suffering too Ruby seems fine most of the day, sleeps nearly all afternoon but then wakes up in the evenings and won't settle until the early hours! She looks like she has some sort of pain. I spent out getting the 'wind free' bottles and she's on omneo comfort which is really easy to digest so I really don't see what else I can do. I've tried infacol but she absolutely hates the taste and always heaves on it. I feel too mean giving it to her. It's so hard getting no sleep and a waste of time going to bed really when you know as soon as your head hits the pillow you have to get up again. When she does finally drop off she's awake again a couple of hours later for another feed.

Oh well, on the brighter side at least it isn't raining today Can finally get them both out for a nice long walk!

Hope everyone had a better night last night. I can't believe I moaned about lack of sleep when pregnant Not a patch on this!

triceratops · 09/11/2005 10:04

I think it feels worse because of the time of year. It is so dark and miserable outside from about 4:30 it makes me feel like hibernating. I can't wait for her first smile - it will brighten me up no end.

I went to a bumps and babes morning with the NCT (our next door neighbour holds it so it wasn't too much effort) but I have to say that this time around the endless talk of nipples and nappies bored me rigid. I long for adult conversation. Now if I could only put a coherant sentence together....

novadandypowder · 09/11/2005 11:13

yes yes yes to The Baby Whisperer. I've just got it as Natalie wouldn't sleep in her basket at night, and I haven't got round to doing the whole routine yet, but just by doing some of her techniques she's slept on her own since friday!

A lot of what she says makes perfect sense, and there's no controlled crying etc.. Worth parting with your cash for.

Piggiesmum · 09/11/2005 13:09

We've got the baby whisperer books too. I haven't had chance to read them properly and start the full routine either yet, tbh it all seems a bit daunting when you are so knackered you will do the easiest thing to sort baby out but I've use a few hints and tips here and there which help me keep my sanity and realise that alot of the things that i stress about are normal, and hopefully eventually the routine thing will hopefully start to fall into place.

ruthiemum · 09/11/2005 14:00

Hi, haven't been on the board for ages but have been reading everyone's messages with great interest, i.e. early hours in the morning when I am warming feeds up! I already have a DS who is 3 at Christmas and my DS2 arrived on 2nd Oct. Complete shock to the system when he arrived, forgot how much work new babies are plus looking after a lively toddler and there is always washing, cooking cleaning to be done (even though everyone says leave it - it's just not possible!) DH didn't get any paternity leave because he is self employed so I feel like I have been on a treadmill for the last month. Re Baby Whisperer - I absouletly love her. She was my saving grace with DS1 and feel so much more relaxed with a routine wtih DS2 although I found her TV programme more helpful because you can actually see how she does it. Lovely got an hours peace now with DS at pre school and baby asleep, ah bliss!
