You never know blathers, once Imogen started sleeping through she seemed to sleep more during the day too - bizarre!

Blatherskite · 17/02/2011 20:28

I'd read something somewhere that said that getting more sleep in the day could help lengthen night time sleep.

Something about them being more rested after a good daytime nap so they weren't falling straight into a deep sleep from exhaustion but falling into a light sleep first, followed by the deep sleep so the total sleep was longer.

Does that make any sense? I can't seem to function after about 8pm these days, I'm just so tired, I want to sleep...

HerculesPoirot · 17/02/2011 20:40

Yes, I've heard something similar, although sort of the other way round, in that if they have a really good sleep at night, they are better at settling for daytime naps because they aren't over tired! I do think it's a bit chicken and egg really and that Imogen now just loves her sleep!!! Now catherine's doing a bit of walking hopefully she'll tire herself out more and want to sleep longer too for you. Still no sign of walking here, I sometimes think she will never do it...

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 17/02/2011 21:33

hey all!

Well, we have been struck down (Anna has!) with the dreaded lurgy here too. Just the sickness, not the diarrhoea thank goodness, but not very nice, nonetheless. Lee and Blue, hope your LOs are recovering now?

DH, who was supposed to be coming home on sat from Doha, is now not coming back until tuesday... :(
that's mt week in a nutshell! :o

Hope you are all ok. Duck comment made me laugh Kate, but like you say, probably wouldn't have done at the time!

Our two are better thanks, though they're both a bit more tired than usual.

So Blathers, how did last night go? Conrad woke up a couple of times but was quickly soothed back to sleep in his cot.

LifeOfKate · 18/02/2011 20:58

Ugh, don't talk to me about sleep :( We have just had second day on the trot of complete nap refusal... I neeeeed that 1-2 hours of time by myself to stay sane, plus Noah is sooo grumpy without a nap :( Night times are so so, he often wakes once, before Christmas he was sleeping through most nights :(
It's just a bit frustrating as I need decent sleep now more than ever :(

Blatherskite · 18/02/2011 21:08

Last night? Well as you asked... I was so tired I went to be at 9pm. Good job as Alex's cough woke him at 10.20pm, 11.15pm, 1am, 3.50am, 5.30am, 6.30am and he finally came in to tell me that his Sun had come up (Grobag clock in his room) at 7am!

He woke Catherine at the 3.50am wake up and it took a while for her to resettle. He woke her again at 5.30am and she cried for a while before finally getting up at 7.15am.

Between the two of them, they probably had me up from 5.30am. Sad

I am quite tired The thought of it being half term next week is enough to make me cry right now! Supposed to be going to see a friend in Coventry tomorrow night and will be staying over. Will be lovely but I won't be getting the early night I could desperately do with. Will get a lie in on Sunday morning though Grin

LifeOfKate · 19/02/2011 12:21

Hope you had a better night last night, Blather, that sounds awful (and depressing that you don't always necessarily get a full nights sleep when they are older!).

We didn't have a great night last night. Noah woke at about half midnight and I was a horrible mother :( I was so shattered and angry because I really needed the sleep that I wasn't at all sympathetic and was just telling him to go back to sleep and about how tired I was and how it wasn't fair Blush :( Obviously it didn't really help and Noah just cried more and more. I was so tired I started to feel sick and dizzy, so at that point I went back to bed and told DH he would have to deal with him. A bit of background to this is that DH has only been up with him during the night a few times, as I am SAHM and breastfeeding, so it always made more sense for me to get up.
Anyway, DH did a fantastic job and actually stayed in the spare bed next to Noah's cot until about 5.30am.
So I win the shit parent award at the moment, although I will definitely be remembering how good DH is at settling him now Wink
I'm actually going away on my own for a wedding for a night in early april and cannot begin to tell you how much I'm looking forward to it! I have plenty of friends I could stay with in that neck of the woods, but I am going to fork out for a hotel so I don't have any obligation to get up in the morning, I can just laze around and eat breakfast in bed and watch tv in bed and have a leisurely shower when I want, etc etc :o How long is it til April again?! :o

HerculesPoirot · 19/02/2011 22:44

Oh god, that all sounds awful. Sending everyone sleepy vibes... Dh back today which is lovely and he bought me toblerones! Usually I get nothing!

Blatherskite · 20/02/2011 20:14

Alex is still coughing and it's still waking him up Sad It's a good job it's half term this week as he could do with the time off to rest during the day. The cough has been keeping him up since last Wednesday night and it's obvious he's just desperate for a full night's sleep now.

2 night's running now, Catherine has managed to sleep through it and has gone 7pm till 6.30am though Shock Looks like your sleepy vibes really did the trick Hercule Grin

Glad the vibes are helping! I hope Alex's cough feels better soon too. Half term here too - so nice having longer in bed and not having to get dressed straight away!

Blatherskite · 21/02/2011 09:41

Cough seemed to be getting better but poor old Alex was totally unable to settle last night. Kept complaining of a pain by his ear. It kept moving though and he always pointed to somewhere different when we asked about it Confused I gave him a full dose of Calpol night and we didn't hear from him until 7.15 this morning! Was all ready to whisk him to the doctor but he seems fine this morning Will see how tonight goes I think and then take him whatever if we have a re-run tonight. Just feel a bit daft taking a bright and jumpy boy to an emergency appointment!

Catherine did 7pm till 6.30am again. It's been almost a week now, I'm actully daring to wonder if we might have cracked it Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/02/2011 20:03

Aaaaaargh, just typed a long post, then it didn't post it!!! Will try to remember what I said...!

Yay for the sleeping Catherine and hopefully Alex is nearing the end of his cough now - poor thing it sounds miserable at night for him (and you!).

Went for a lovely walk on the common today with some of my NCT friends - I carried Imogen in our backpack so hopefully a small bit of exercise for me. Tomorrow I am off to Wisley with one of the girls again so that will be nice. My brother and his girlfriend also came over this afternoon to play so that was nice.

I am loving half term already! Hope everyone is having a nice week...

Blatherskite · 22/02/2011 21:48

Catherine slept from 7 till 7 last night Shock

Pity I was up every hour or so with awful pain in my ears. Went to the doctor today and he says I have acute tonsillitis Sad

Just what I needed for half term!

LifeOfKate · 23/02/2011 09:30

Oh Blather, poor you! Really hope you all get better soon and you get a decent nights sleep!

We're ok, Noah slept through last night apart from a random 5 second WAAAAAAA at 4.15am Confused He is finally getting over his virus/cold, phew!

Hope everyone else is ok :)

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/02/2011 09:44

Blathers - it does sound like Catherine is doing well at the mo with her sleeping. I hope you start to feel better soon - I used to get tonsillitis a lot and it is miserable.

Kate - well done for Noah on his sleeping too and glad he is getting better.

Well my half term fun has come to a standstill - Immy had rosy cheeks on Monday with a couple of little tiny spots in them, but nothing anywhere else so I just thought it was dry skin. Yesterday she had the same, got ready to go out, drove to meet a friend at Wisley about 20 ish minute drive away and when I took her out of the car her hands had these spots on them and it was on her arms and her left ear. My friend is pregnanat and has a baby same age as Imogen, plus of course everyone else visiting so we came straight back home. Went to doctors in afternoon, no idea what it is, got another doctor to look and still not sure so she has two types of antibiotics to take. She hates then, it was a real battle this morning which ended with me and her in tears - I tried all different spoons that she usually has medicine (calpol) off, her food spoons, the medicine injector thing. Oh my god, it was carnage. I hope she is more willing to have it later on.

The doctors don't know if contagious or not, so to be on safe side we are staying in. They said they don't think it is, and if it is it would require close contact and cuddling so they said going supermarket shopping would be fine so that will be our exciting outing later.

Hope everyone else is having nice half terms though!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/02/2011 09:51

Urgh so sorry everyone has been having sleep issues.

Elizabeth has been really bad the past few days, high temp, shivering etc. Had been dosing her up with calpol and thanks to my mum she ended up with a double dose of 20ml in the space of 2 hours! ARGH.

She's ok though and seem to be over the worst of it.

LifeOfKate, im exactly the same in the night. I just cant deal with it, never have been able to. So DH does all the comforting after 11pm. I'm better with Jake now he is older because he can tell me what's wrong. It doesnt make you a bad mum (otherwise I would be one aswell!! Grin)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/02/2011 09:53

Aww Hercule. I hope Imogen gets better soon. Can you not mix it with some ice cream? My mum used to do that for me when I was ill.

Blatherskite · 23/02/2011 09:57

Sorry to hear Elizabeth is poorly ABF. Hope she feels better soon. You must be on countdown for your op now mustn't you?

Alex slept through last night too - it was only me that was up! Pain in my ears woke me so I was up getting painkillers and AB's at half 4. Catherine woke at 6.15. Not as good as yesterday but still good for her.

BlueChampagne · 23/02/2011 13:26

Aww sorry you're suffering Blathers, and everyone else who hasn't had enough sleep. Conrad slept through last night so I'm feeling relatively chipper - would have been better if they hadn't shared the vomiting bug with me over the weekend!

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/02/2011 19:38

Thanks everyone. Lee, that is what I thought it might be, but doctor's didn't mention it. Antibiotics don't seem to have done anything today, rash is worse and she has a slight temperature. Doctor said they think probably viral, with the rash developing as a bacterial secondary infection, but I think if ABs haven't done anything by Friday i'll ask to stop them. She was feeling really sorry for herself today, I think even if it is still raining then I shall just have to go for a long walk to ease the shouting and crying every time I move away from her!

What a brilliant half term lie in! Bizarrely, Imogen has slept in until after 8 the last two Sunday's - perhaps they somehow know...

Yes, slight name change, am big agatha christie fan, but realised I has called myself Hercules poirot when it is hercule poirot without the s, once I knew it really bugged me!!!

Blatherskite · 23/02/2011 20:34

I did wonder about that! I wondered if the S was a middle initial or something...

DH managed to make it home from work in time to do dinner for me tonight. I was still on my own with 2 children between 7am and 4pm but I managed. Pain in getting better but the left hand side of my neck feels bruised and lumpy. I guess it's the infection. Hope it goes soon - I can't kiss the children for fear of passing it on Sad
