Anyone fancy my freebie copy of The hand that first held mine ?

It was this months book club choice. I really enjoyed it.

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/06/2011 10:46

Oooh yes please! I love Maggie O'Farrell and haven't read that one yet!

Blatherskite · 10/06/2011 11:15

Then it is your Hercule :) DM or FB me your address and I'll stick it in the post

Blatherskite · 10/06/2011 11:15

yours not your!

Grr at my typing some days

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/06/2011 19:15

Can't be as bad as mine I've just posted "poutcome" instead of "outcome" on some other thread... Grin

Blatherskite · 10/06/2011 20:20

Poutcome? Sound vaguely pornographic Wink

My typing seems to be getting worse recently. I really should spend more time re-reading before I press post

Blatherskite · 10/06/2011 20:21

See! Seee!!

Sounds

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/06/2011 15:17

Grin at slightly pornographic.

Was well pissed off today.
Yesterday I went to IKEA with my mum. They were dismantling all the bedroom displays and shoving all the little knick knacks and cushion/throws/rugs into trolleys.
They already priced up some so I got some bargains, but they wouldnt let me look in the other trolleys because they hadnt been priced. Told me to come back tomorrow.
So I drag my arse out of bed early today to ge tthere all early so as not to miss any bargains and most of it had gone! Sad They'd priced them early and yesterdays evening crowd got them.

The bastards.

My sister had alittle boy very early this morning! So I'm a proud Auntie again! He's a few weeks early so he's only a tiny one, 5 pound something my BIL was very vague, think it was the shock... when my mum asked him what the baby was he paused for a bit and said "A tiny little pink thing, a baby?"
Bless him.

No name yet but she was rather liking Lucius.

Been to visit earlier this evening. He is the most perfect looking baby I've ever seen. She's breastfeeding which she wasnt so sure about when pregnant but she's doing really well so far.

I suggested the name Arthur which she really likes so looks like he's going to be Arthue Charlie.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 13/06/2011 22:15

Sorry about your bad days Leonie. Sympathies for the insect bite I had one on my leg jst before I went in for my op which made the whole of my leg swell up and is onyl just going down now. Sad

LifeOfKate · 14/06/2011 11:20

Aww, congratulations ABF :o

Ha! jsut seen my last post.. his name is Arthur, not Arthue. Which would be weird...

They are still in hospital because he is jaundice and she has given up trying to breast feed, says it's not for her.
She just wants to be home now bless her.

Elizabeth doesnt have any eczema spots but she doesnt half scratch, mainly the tops of her legs and arms, she has scratched her arms raw before now Sad
If she doesnt have a nappy on she wont leave the top of her bum and legs alone so must admit I tend to keep a nappy on her more than I did with Jake.

Blatherskite · 17/06/2011 22:13

Welcome to the World little Arthur Grin

I lost this thread just now and have been frantically searching for it. For an "advanced" search, the MN search facility is a bit lacking!!

LifeOfKate · 18/06/2011 20:52

Ooo, Arthur is vaguely on our name list for the new baby :)

ABF - hope your DH's operation went well, have been thinking of you :)

We've got no eczema here, think Noah has got DH's skin which is like a Rhino's!

Our big news this week is that Noah has been moved into a bed! We needed to do it sooner rather than later as we will need the cot for the new baby and I wanted to do it a couple of months before the baby arrived so the two events were completely seperate for him and he didn't have 2 quite stressful events happening very close together. Thankfully he has taken to it quite well, although went through a few mornings of waking up around 6am which was quite hard to cope with as he is very good in the mornings and is normally asleep until at least 7am. He's gone back to that again now which is a relief, I'm not sure I could deal with that kind of time every morning!! Our only problem was that I got Noah weighed/measured last week and the HV asked about sleeping, so I told her that we had moved him into a bed. She looked deeply disapproving and said that she thought people were moving kids into beds too early nowadays as it was 'fashionable'!!! [shocked] I had no idea it was supposed to be fashionable, I would have been quite happy for him to stay in his cot if it wasn't for the baby!

Anyway, hope you're all ok :)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/06/2011 21:10

Oh bollocks forgot to tell you all... Paul's operation got cancelled at the last minute. Nurse came in to get him ready for surgery. She disappeared, came back in said it might be cancelled, left us waiting for 2 and a half hours and then someone told us it was cancelled due to no beds available in ICU. So he had to come home. He was told to wait for a letter with a new date and one came literally the next day saying surgery is booked for 4th July. Fingers crossed the same thing doesnt happen because for obvious reasons they cant reserve ICU beds. Sad

Welldone on moving into a big boy bed! I'm scared of trying it with Elizabeth because we cant get a stairgate at the top of the stairs because of the way the window is at the top plus the bannister gets in the way.

Blatherskite · 18/06/2011 21:26

I saw your status on FB about Paul's Op ABF. I hope he gets the bed he needs next time and you don't have to go through that again. It was bad enough when I got walked down to Theatre and then bumped and sent back to the ward when I went to have Catherine! At least I was back in again a few hours later. Getting yourself psyched up for open heart surgery and then being set home must be awful Sad

Congratulations on getting Noah into a bed. We moved Alex before Catherine was born for the same reasons but he was about 2.5 so a bit bigger. Ignore the HV, you need to move him for legitimate reasons and it's not going to do him any harm to be in a bed rather than a cot at his age. Getting yourselves prepared for the new baby is more important right now. Catherine is going to be in her cot till she's about 5 I think :) It's a cotbed so we can take the sides off to make it more bed-like but she'll be in it till we finally move in a few years as we can't get anything bigger in her room. We're definitely leaving the sides on for now though as she regularly gets up at 6am (this morning was 5.45 Sad) so anything that keeps her in her cot and not climbing on me for another few minutes each morning is very important Wink

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/06/2011 21:30

We've got a cot in Elizabeth's room atm obviously but I'm worried about getting a single bed in there because it's soooo small. Might have to go for one of those extendable beds from ikea.
We werent able to go for a cotbed right from the start due to the fact they were having to share a room in the flat.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/06/2011 12:18

Hi everyone - sorry to hear about them cancelling the op ABF, that must have been sooo frustrating for you and just extending the worry. At least it was weeks rather than months they have put it back, so fingers crossed there is a bed this time for him.

Well done Noah on going into a big bed! I was wondering about when you move them into beds. Don't they fall out? Do you have to make their room completely safe for them in case they get out and play? Can they still sleep in sleeping bags?!? Oh god, I really don't have a clue about anything now she is getting bigger I have realised!!!

ABF - congrats on becoming an Auntie and Lee conrats to your friend, I've found it really, really exciting now more of my friends are having babies!

We don't have much to report really, except that that high temperature last week was caused by a boil which subsequently burst and resulted in a week of ABs! Yuck.

LifeOfKate · 19/06/2011 17:07

Oh, what a shame, ABF, I missed that on facebook :( Fingers crossed that the next one doesn't get cancelled too.

Hercule - going to attempt to answer your big bed questions! In terms of falling out, Noah actually has the bed which is supposed to be the top bed of a bunk bed (other half is (hopefully!) on it's way to the loft until we need it), so it actually has rails around it apart from a small bit at the end where the ladder is supposed to go :) He does get out, but he is very cautious with heights and a good climber, so he has no problems whatsoever. His room is as safe as we can make it, it's a very small room, only just long enough to take the bed, with a built in wardrobe type thing with nothing within reach, a bookcase which is screwed to the wall with his books on it within reach and a bedside table which just has soft safe things in like socks! And a box of his toys. To be honest, he's not very interested in staying in there, he normally comes straight out and comes into my bedroom to say good morning Hmm The times he's woken in the night, he stayed in his bed and cried, i think it's because he's not really awake properly then. He is actually still in a sleeping bag as he was a nightmare to get to sleep without one (despite not having one for his nap Hmm), we're going to leave it a few more days I think and then try to lose it again. He does walk surprisingly well in it though!

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/06/2011 20:12

Thanks Kate - that is very helpful! We sleep on a different floor to Imogen (we're in the loft conversion) so I think we'll probably leave it a bit longer... and of course I'm too scared to do it!!!

Blatherskite · 19/06/2011 20:35

Before we moved Alex into a proper bed, we had the cotbed set up as a bed for a few months to get him used to the idea. We took the sides off and replaced them with a bed guard for a little bit. Because the cot bed is shorter than a proper bed, the bed guard covered most of one side and meant that he had to be actively wanting to climb out to get out so he was properly awake and not just rolling out IYSWIM.

We also put a stair gate on his bedroom door to keep him safe in his room if he woke up in the night. Our house is small enough that we could hear him if he got up.

We did take him out of his sleeping bag though just so he wouldn't trip up over it as he tried to get about.

I haven't even thought about taking the sides off for Catherine yet.
