A starter for 10 on our Sept 2010 babies as their first Christmas comes nearer! Can't believe we're there already; I was barely pregnant last Xmas!

Chelle - congratulations!

Have had a lovely Christmas - has felt hectic but have really enjoyed it. On Christmas Eve, we went to a reindeer farm near here and the boys met Santa in his grotto (the girls slept through the entire thing!) which made them even more excited about the big day. Didn't finish wrapping pressies until 12.30am on xmas morning and then discovered that teh boys' main present rtequired lots and lots of putting together before they could play with it... Think we are going to head out for a bracing Boxing Day walk later - it's lovely and sunny here but very cold. What I really want to do is send DH and teh kids out while I eat chocolate on the sofa get on with housework. Smile

Hi ladies. Long time no post (at least 2 weeks i think). Harlyn has been unwell so have been focused on nursing him back to health. He had the flu and we had to take him to A&E (gp referral) due to his temperature going sky high. It was a real worry but he is better now though still coughing and a little congested.

We had a lovely first Christmas with Harlyn dressed in a cute Santa outfit. Had a Wii Fit plus so hoping to get time to use it in the new year and get rid of this baby weight.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas day. Haven't had chance to catch up on previous posts yet but I did notice your news chelle, MAHOOSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to you and your hubby to be.

Chelle1986 · 26/12/2010 21:06

Thanks all! Will have a catch up over next couple of days as we are going to bed now as both ill and Olly is being a nightmare!

jodey - hope Harlyn is feeling better.

3 months today.

Chelle Hearties congratulations!! Its such a wonderful time x

Lovely xmas all went off with no drama (unheard of in my family!) and Dad was missed but it didnt dampen spirits - more in a loving fond way.

Can just about find the boys in the mountain of presents! They were super. Love these few days - just watching them and hanging out with them reminds you what its all about. Phoebe got the cutest pink pig and Beatrix potter collections from santa and some lovely clothes from her aunt. Dh bought me a dolls house!! The 4ft collectors ones! I know its a bit sad but I have always wanted one. He reckons now I have a daughter to pass it on to I should have one!I should be cross as we are broke but bless him he has said that I deserve a treat and as its our last baby a special pressie. Am delighted. Boys were even happy and bless DH1 said now he knows what to get me for presents!

Phoebe little under the weather today may have to go to the doc tomorrow. Hate seing her out of sorts! She was so good the past few days and real xmas baby as she just loved the chaos and was even slightly giddy on xmas day!

newmum001 · 26/12/2010 22:14

Im engaged too!!! DP gave me an xmas card from grace with a lovely poem inside about how much i mean to her which made me cry immediately and on the opposit page it said "to mummy merry christmas love from Grace, ps will you marry my daddy" and when i looked up he was down on one knee in front of me with the most beautiful ring. I cried like an idiot, it was without a doubt the best moment of my life after having Grace. Then his card to me "too my fiance" im nearly in tears again now!

Needless to say we had a lovely day, Grace was sooo hyper and her routine is shot to shit but on the whole she's been an angel over the last few days!

Hope everyone has had a lovely christmas. I can't believe this year is nearly over, it's deffinately one i'll never forget!

xxxxxx

mellymooks · 26/12/2010 22:23

Ahhhhh newmum that is so lovely!! Congrats to you and congrats to chelle How exciting!!

Hope everyone has had a good Christmas and is having the chance to chill out a bit with family and friends.

sassy34264 · 27/12/2010 10:30

AWH newmum that's realy lovely. Congrats to you and chelle. xxx

saoirse86 · 27/12/2010 11:56

Congratulations chelle and newmum , newmum your story just made me cry!! I'm so happy for you both. chelle how did your DP do it?

I had a terrible start to christmas day. We had a very strict timetable in order to spend time with everyone. I get into my new car for the first time in 6 days and it wouldn't start. We tried everything we could think of but nothing worked so we had to abandon the plan and have my mum come and pick us up. We still managed to get round to everyone and the silver lining was that I got to drink! Xmas Grin

Also I've now had 2 nights where Orlaith's slept for 8 hours before waking, then done another few hours still! [happy mummy]

DP's now got plans for us to spend loads of money in the sales. I like that he likes shopping Xmas Smile

JodeyLea · 27/12/2010 12:12

AAaaah congrats to you too newmum. That sounded like a very romantic proposal.

Having a bit of a mare with Harlyn at the mo as he is waking up every two hours in the night with bottom wind! He doesn't actually wake up as in open his eyes, he just starts crying and farting simultaneously, poor thing, so I'm shattered and have dark circles under my eyes! Not used to this sleep deprivation as he has always been a good sleeper through the night Xmas Sad.

12 weeks + 3

ps, my sister is baby sitting for three hours tonight so me and DH can go to Jamie Oliver's new Italian in Brum. Looking forward to a rare bit of "us time". Xmas Grin

Debs75 · 27/12/2010 14:42

Hi all, had a lovely christmas, just me, dp the 4 dc's and my mum. Lucy managed 1 all-nighter and even managed some time in her cot. I have had an awful sore throat and have lost my voice so am thinking that might be why Lucy was a bit green, we are almost nack to normal now.

COngrats to the engagementsXmas Smile and hope you all ahve a nice new year.

patito · 27/12/2010 20:46

congratulations to chelle and newmum, what a great way to finish of the year. Im with saoirse, how did your DP ask chelle?

We had a lovely day, DS got loads of lovely things from santa and Maia got the cutest mermaid dolly from my mum. Unfortunatley I´d trusted DP with the xmas shopping and he bought her a car Hmm.

DP & I always exchange gifts on NY eve. Infact we have a NY eve tradition, DP cooks a late candle lit dinner, we exchange gifts and then read our wish list from last NY eve and see whats come true. The wish list is a short list we write down with stuff we´d like to see happen in the next year (i.e hear first words). For 4 yrs running Ive put down to have my own hse but its never happened, maybe should give up on that oneHmm

bananastew · 27/12/2010 22:15

Massive congrats to the newly engaged! Newmum you made me cry too. where did you find him??

Had a great christmas here too. having some really nice family time with my parents & brother & family. Tobys eaten far too much choc choc & I've drunk far too much wine. Got lots of great pressies although still waiting for my one from the boys. It didn't come in time. Apparently its a collage mug of them with a message on. Can't wait. Got some bargains in the sale today too!

Love love love christmas. Ollys been a bit off it but I think its all the upheaval, being passed around, noise & being in a different house. Had a quieter day today & hes been much better. fingers crossed for a sleep through tonight!

Scary none Christmas thought, recommended weaning age, 6 months. 17 weeks at the absolute earliest. OLLY 17 WEEKS TOMORROW [fsock] (not even thinking about it but still!}

bananastew · 27/12/2010 22:16

[fsock] ha ha ha! that'd be the wine!!!!

Xmas Shock
cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2010 03:35

It's lovely to hear everyone's had a good Christmas! Congratulations to chelle1986 and newmum001, that's lovely news. Sorry for those that are ill and have had routines disrupted, we don't have one so no probs there!

We went to my mums Christmas day which was lovely. Both boys ended up asleep upstairs by 9.30 which was nice. My dad came back with us then we went to see megamind on boxing day and he treated us to lunch at ask. Yesterday we went back to my mums as it's my dads birthday and dh had picked up dss. Luke has loved all the cuddles and has been really good. He got lots of cuddly things and teethers mainly. My mum got him the baby coin set that she got ds1, which is lovely. Ds1 was so lovely this year, really enjoyed his presents but got fed up of opening them just wanted to play! He got a very cute dinosaur dressing gown from my brother that he's hardly taken off!!

It's raining here now and has been for a couple of hours. So much for the snow we we finally supposed to have Xmas Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 28/12/2010 03:36

Oh yeah 15w+1!

Chelle1986 · 28/12/2010 16:57

The good old "close your eyes - I've got a surprise for you" and when I opened them he was one knee with the baba and asked if I would be his wife. He had a beautiful ring specially made which fit perfectly which was great. Very lovely.xxx

JodeyLea · 28/12/2010 17:31

AAAhhh! Thats lovely Chelle.

Found out today that my other friend is expecting, so that will be all four of us giving birth to our first babies in under 13 months. Xmas Smile.

Think I'm going to wait till the new year before I try and get Harlyn into a better night time routine as we have got a few more nights away from home. Its totally all over the place at the mo. He is usually alseep by 11:30 at the latest but his other cat naps throughout the day vary depending on where we go and how he has slept through the night. Yesterday he hardly slept in the day but today, because we have been out and about, he's hardly been awake. Think I'll wake him now otherwise we may have a bad night ahead.

newmum001 · 28/12/2010 21:04

Grace has been out in her new pram today and LOVED it!! I don't know if any of you remember but we've had issues with her kicking off royaly in her big pram which has left me only able to go out when she's due a sleep cause if she was awake in her pram she'd scream for ages and i found it way too stressful. So i went and bought a forward facing buggy yesterday in the mothercare sale, and she loves it. Went and had dinner in tesco, went shopping and had a walk through the park and she was awake the whole time and so quiet and clearly amazed at everything she could see! I also got seriously pissed off that my big pram (bebecar vector) didn't fit through quite a lot of shop doors so i was a bit limited in what where i could go! Anyway problem now (hopefully) solved. Turns out she'd rather look at the world than mummys boring face Grin

Is anyone else dreading DP's going back to work? I've loved having him at home, the days pass so much quicker and it's lovely having a conversation with an adult during the day!

Has anyone heard anything from Beadit?? She's not been on for ages, hope she's ok!

comixminx · 28/12/2010 22:31

Hello all! Congrats to newmum too, what lovely stories both of you have! Glad also that Grace has settled down a bit in the new pram - fingers crossed!

Well, Aphra has been great for the past few days but this evening has been really really full of crying - calming down and then crying again in fits and starts. We don't know what it is - she has burped a few times but not majorly so it's possible she has some deep down trapped wind, she's fed enough, she's had enough naps and sleeps as far as we can tell, we've given her teething gel and it's not soothed her. During the evening we've found that putting her on her back on the ground has helped, but not for very long at a time. Aiiieee! Fingers crossed that she sleeps tonight. About to give her a feed.... And then to try to get her to sleep...

We did go into town into the maelstrom of clearance sales, but she was asleep for most of it and seemed fine. Not that that stopped my mum from "helpfully" diagnosing that as a possible source of the problem - a diagnosis at a distance and at a guess, with minimal information and unsolicited! Ah well, mothers will do that sort of thing won't they...

Wow! Note to self: do NOT leave mumsnet for that long again!!

Well..... so good to read everyone's stories! Especially chelle and newmum GORGEOUS NEWS xxkissesxx all round!!!! Grin

Sorry to dampen the post Christmas spirit but the festive season seems to have passed us by coz of a very poorly Jack.

A few days before Christmas we got referred by the GP to hospital with a really bad rash but came home the same day then on Christmas Eve we were back again after Jack woke up as white as snow and so floppy it was awful. He did a ridiculously projectile vom and was shaking. His skin was really blotchy which we now know was dehydration. He got checked twice by 2 different doctors but it was just a waiting game really. Then he just wouldn't wake up to be checked again so they left us all together in a room (lunch and shift change time!!) Shock and finally when I woke him after I was so desperate for him to feed he seemed to perk up so I trundled off to find a doctor who checked him over and sent us home.
He seemed better after a day of good feeds and loads of sleep but then on Boxing Day night DH got the winter vomiting bug after our marathon trip around families houses. I set him up with his sofa bed and bleached everywhere clean just in time to start chundering myself! Now about 12 people in our families have the bug and Jack has been doing horrid poos for 3 days. The kind that soak through 3 layers of clothes and soak the bouncy chair! Shock
Blaaaahhhhhhhhh........ really feel like I shouldn't be ranting about all this but is anyone else up for waking up tomorrow and it being Christmas Eve again??

Lots of festivey love to all xxx

sassy34264 · 28/12/2010 23:54

OMG beaditali You're not having a good time at all! So sorry to hear about Jack being so poorly. Is he ok now? Have they got to the bottom of the rash?

I'm having a bit of a crap time too (although nowhere as bad as you).

Got problems with Jacob.......day and night. Day time problems are good ones- He has learnt to roll from back to front and front to back! He can also move around in a clock hand way, ie, you place him at 12 o'clock and turn around for a minute and he's at quarter past! He can also move in a straight line when on his back. So he will start off on the playmat and then suddenly he is a metre off it! Little monkey. So, i can't leave him for a minute. I really need to invest in a playpen (already???!!!)
It's the night time stuff that is driving me to distraction. It's hard to explain, but it seems like he won't settle because he has burps, so i burp him and then put him down...cue crying. Burp him again, put him down....cue crying, by the time i have brought up all his burps (and sick, he still has reflux) he his crying for food and i feed him and it all starts again. I have on occasion let him cry himself to sleep (7mins was the longest) which i hate doing cos it's heart breaking, and i worry i'm going to change his smiley personality. (he is the smilest baby i know) Plus his poor throat goes sore! But when it's 1pm in the morning, i can't think of anything else to do. Burst out crying myself on boxing day to my dad and his wife cos i was exhausted. Still had MIL to visit and had already visited ex MIL before hand and all i wanted to do was stay home. Sad Neither of them are over awed with the formula still. Maybe weaning will help. Just got 6 weeks to go before they are 6 months. I'm thinking about giving them yogurts though, but i'm going to try to hold out till they are at least 5months.

Sorry for the mammoth post. x

cinnamongreyhound · 29/12/2010 07:56

comixminx she could be ready for an earlier bedtime. It could be that she wants to be awake because there are things going on but that she's just too tired.

Glad to see you back beaditAli, assumed you were just busy with your Christmas orders! So sorry to hear you've had such a tough time, I can't imagine what you've been through with jack it must have been awful and then to both be so ill too. I hope you get some more answers from the dr soon as that doesn't sound like a diagnosis at all to me.

Poor you sassy34264, your boy doesn't give you a easy time does he! Are you sure he's not just making wind because he's crying and gulping in air? Personally if you know they are safe and don't need anything I don't see a problem with leaving them to cry and 7mins is not that long although it feels it at the time! You must be totally exhausted, give yourself a break you're doing really well. Luke can turn in a circle if he's flat on the floor and is lifting his bottom up but not managing to roll. Did you mean weaning will help with them taking formula or help in general? Ds1 loved his milk so I never felt I had to wean so no experience there at all, I did it because it was the right time. Although he was sick less after a month or so but was sitting by then so not sure which helped more really.

Yay for new pushchair newmum001!!

Debs75 · 29/12/2010 09:55

Gosh only 6 weeks before they reach 6 months, that has come round fast.
You are doing a great job with the twins Sassy, everything seems to go to pot when it is xmas. Too many expectations of what is a good xmas and babies never want to play ball. They prob don't want the formula as they can always smell you and so want boob. You might need to let your mum have him for the day to get him to have formula.
Lucy is trying to move around now and woud love to roll but can't quite manage it.

sassy34264 · 29/12/2010 09:56

I mean weaning might help, in actually making him satiated, and then he won't start off with his 'i want food' moves! I think you might be right about the gulping down air. (i didn't think of that....doh) DP said last night, he can't just get this many burps at the same time every night, and i still didn't twig.

Forgot to say that we are also having bad time with house. DP didn'y go on xmas eve, day or boxing day. Went on the monday and the pipes have burst. The heating has only been in a couple of weeks. He's had to buy new pipes and pull plastering off the wall. He came home so deflated. He was supposed to be going out for his best friends birthday at night time, but he didn't go. I told him to go and try and forget it for one night, but he said 'i'm not in the right mood and i want to go back again tomorrow' Heating still wasn't working as well, so when that thaws, i think we will have another leak. He said he felt like crying, when he had to pull all the new, painted plaster off. Kitchen is being fitted today and wall is in kitchen. Luckily our plasterer has agreed to go today too, so fingers crossed, that we are lucky enough not to have a 2nd leak.
