A starter for 10 on our Sept 2010 babies as their first Christmas comes nearer! Can't believe we're there already; I was barely pregnant last Xmas!

Happy Birthday Debs

saorise my Mil has done the same with DS i.e calls herself mum and has referred to FIL as dad aswell!! They try and bypass us all the time on our decisions, we still battle with it and he´s coming up to 3 yrs old. Im too polite with them, but it has caused some really tense areas.

saoirse86 · 20/12/2010 21:02

melly I had a mild case of SPD during pregnancy but it's very different to that. I'm basically getting pains everywhere that my bump was and in my bits. It's almost like just having her strained my muscles in various places. But surely if it was something like that I wouldn't still be having those pains 3 months on?! Xmas Confused

Orlaith 12+3

saoirse86 · 20/12/2010 21:05

patito maybe I'm going to have to be more forthright so it doesn't last that long! Xmas Hmm

comixminx · 21/12/2010 10:12

Hi folks! Things moving less quickly here as we're focusing on Christmas, maybe? That's how it is for me, anyway: we're hoping to make it from Oxf to Liverpool driving today (I think I can hear some slight dripping sounds from outside so hopefully there's a bit if a thaw going on?). A bunch of the packing's been done but once Aphra finishes feeding I'll have to dive into doing more stuff... DP spent some time yesterday sorting out junk from the nursery so that we can set up her cot in the coming month or two, so that was good, except that he also insisted in digging out an old commuter from the loft (ie which was not in the way in the nursery!) - and clearing stuff off it so it can go to the tip. All very well, but doesn't target the crucial stuff that needs doing before we can go, IMHO... Xmas Hmm. Ah well.

Those with parents / in laws who refer to themselves as mum & dad and other controlling things - yikes! Especially difficult if you work with them, too (can't remember who that was - sorry...). Good luck with that. Relationships with parents get harder and easier when you're a grownup, don't they - and with in laws it's always a bit weird cos even if they're really nice they're not your parents, so you have to get used to a whole bunch of different (maybe very different) ways of doing things / attitudes / etc... Mind you it's just struck me that when Aphra is grown up I will be her mum and have to be a good mum with a good relationship, and not try to tell her what to do all the time! But of course I will be entirely perfect as the mum if a grown up woman Xmas Grin...

Morning all,

Had a rough few days, took Grace to the doctors on FRiday as she was being sick ALL the time. They've put her on Ranitidine and she's still having infant gaviscon, she's also on eye drops for her runny eyes. The poor thing, i feel awful putting all this stuff in her. I had a big row with the doctor who basically was talking to me like i was shit cause i couldn't get Grace to hold still while she was trying to examine her. Our appointment should have been at 11 but we finally got seen at 11.40 so by this point Grace was ready for a feed and very very irritable also needed changing and there and is nowhere to change her in the doctors. I was nearly in tears by the time we left. Once her next lot of jabs are out of the way im changing doctors.

Her reflux is really bad atm, she seems ok in herself most of the time but at least once a day she cries uncontrollably and it's heartbreaking. Nothing seems to calm her down. Was it Beadit who was considering weaning early?? I must admit i'm thinking the same. Gonna see how she is when she hits 4 months but apparently reflux gets better when they start on solids. Obviously i'll speak to a health visitor first but i hate that she's on so much medication and the ranitadine is giving her the runs on top of everything else.

DP finishes for Christmas on Wednesday and i cannot wait. I'm in serious need of adult company during the day!!

Is everyone ready for Christmas?? Just got my brother left to buy for and then we're done, everything is wrapped and im starting to really look forward to it. It's taken me a while to get into the swing of things this year, i haven't felt christmassy at all up until now and normally im excited from about October!

Grace 14 weeks today!

saoirse86 · 21/12/2010 10:55

That was me comix! We're supposed to be having a 'work' chrsitmas meal tomorrow night. There are only 2 employees who aren't in the family and they're the ones I get on with best (apart from DP of course!) so I might sit with them.
My mum and dad are really good, even my dad's partner who doesn't have children and always seemed to hate kids is really good with Orlaith and my niece. They never impose and on the very few occasions they've tried to pass comment or 'suggest' something we can just tell them to leave us alone! Xmas Grin Annoyingly though DP doesn't have that kind of relationship with his parents, despite spending every day with them at work.

Right, I really do need to stop moaning about this.

I've just checked our weather forecast till christmas day and no more snow Xmas Grin but plenty of cold and possibly ice Xmas Sad . On christmas day I've got about 50 mile journey around various family's houses so I'm hoping it's not too icey Xmas Hmm .
I feel really sorry for all those people stuck in stations and airports and whathever. comix I hope your journey's not too awful, good luck!

saoirse86 · 21/12/2010 11:12

newmum That's so sad that grace isn't well. You should definitely make a complaint about the way that doctor spoke to you. That's really not acceptable, and it's completely understandable that grace would be getting upset by then.

I'm really not sorted with getting presents. Over the last few weeks I've been into town quite a few times with my sister and niece. But we spend more time sitting in cafes feeding babies than actually shopping. And I find it really stressful with the pushchair and all the people. We've managed to get maybe one present each time and ended up giving up and going home. DP's car is still abandoned and he can't get it out so he's using my car for work which means I'm pretty much stuck now. I was walking down the road yesterday and heard people saying they'd been waiting for a bus for 2 1/2 hours Xmas Shock ! I will not be getting a bus anywhere any time soon!
I've done some internet shopping but they haven't arrived yet Xmas Hmm And ordered a few things to collect in store but can't get there!

newmum001 · 21/12/2010 11:44

Saoirse - the nurse in the same surgery prescribed her eye drops for a blocked tear duct without looking at her eyes and when i mentioned it to the doctor she went on and on about how disgraceful it was that the nurse didn't look at her and then she didn't check her eyes either. I'd make a complaint but to be honest i just want to get her jabs out of the way and change doctors without causing a fuss.

I get super stressed shopping with the pram as well. Tesco was rammed on Saturday and i was ready to abandon the shopping and walk out! Need to do a Christmas top up shop on Thursday and will be leaving Grace with my friend for an hour as it's not worth the hassle of taking her with us!

BTW i pronounce your name Sauce Grin my mums called Michaline, pronounced (mick-a-leen) and people really struggle with it. She finds it hilarious when she's called for an appointment and can see the person baffled as to how to pronounce it!

Debs75 · 21/12/2010 14:24

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a nice but long day in the end as Lucy refused her cot and I had presents to wrap.
Where do you all hide your presents? We usually fill dp's batman cupboard(don't ask he is a major geek) but with 4 kids and extended damily we have no more room in there so it is spilling out into the house.

Newmum that is bad about the dr's, DC3 had swabs taken several times to make sure there was no infection in her eyes. And that dr should of realised a small baby can not wait around like an adult does.

We've got food shopping to do still, Thursday, and any last min presents that pop up so hoping we can fit it all in. The weather is supposed to dip to -2o tonight which mighht scupper us as we already have 1 frozen tap.

Debs75 · 21/12/2010 14:24

Sorry -20

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2010 15:09

Good luck with your journey comixminx! I know what you mean, I love my mum to bits but have a difficult relationship with her. I try hard not to make the mistakes I feel she did but I'm sure I will make a whole load of my own Xmas Sad. I know what you mean about OH deciding to do something totally useless when there are lots of necessary things to do, good to know it's not just mine!

So sorry to hear that newmum001, at least there is some medication that Grace can take that will help her. The Dr. was out of order to speak to you like that! I know what you mean about waiting, doesn't matter how well you plan you never can tell. I went 4 times in 3 weeks just after I had Luke, ds1 had tonsilitis twice, Luke had conjunctivitis and I had my 6 week check. All were with 4 children and I waited between 25mins and 1hr 10 mins for each appointment, not acceptable!!! No-one can tell you when to wean, but give it time. I'm pretty sure now that ds1 had undiagnosed reflux and although he was sick less when he started solids he was still sick several times a day and didn't stop until he was 16 months, but it was actual food instead of just milk so much worse imo.

We are supposed to get snow tomorrow night, which makes no difference to me as I don't have to go anywhere and dh said if the weather gets worse he'll stay at home but my Dad is coming for Christmas and I don't like the thought if him being home alone all over Christmas if he can't make it Xmas Sad.

We made Christmas tree decorations today with salt dough, which was great fun but I haven't been out all day and it makes me feel really groggy. Think I will take the dog for a walk when Luke wakes up Xmas Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2010 15:15

Sorry Debs75 x-post, mine are all under the tree now that they are wrapped. In our house the only presents that are from Father Christmas are in the kids stockings, so no need to hide the rest once they are wrapped. We have a 3 storey house so we actually have a lot of space unstairs (double wardrobes in all 3 bedrooms) so don't have any probs.

I'm going shopping Thursday as well, it's my usual shopping day and the only day I finish work before 6 but I'm making dh come this week as I get majorly stressed when there are lots of people. I only have 1 minded child THursday so was considering going in the day but I guess it will still be awful as the kids aren't at school.

bananastew · 21/12/2010 16:34

WARNING TMI AHEAD!!!!!!

Are you all healed up after the birth? I have only looked down there once in my life and that was after ds1 was born. I didn't dare after Olly cos I had a 2nd degree tear and wasn't stitched. My friend had the same and looked. She said it was the worse thing she'd done cos it freaked her out. Anyway, Things just don't seem right so I looked today Shock OMG it looks like nothing I've seen before! and I'm a nurse so have seen plenty. I couldn't recognise anything! I'm pleased I don't have to catheterise myself, I wouldn't know where to put it. No one has checked down there since I delivered the placenta! I don't know if its normal or not! I also have a fissure that just won't heal! I really don't want to go to the dr cos its so embarrassing! [blish]

Olly 16 weeks today!

bananastew · 21/12/2010 16:34

or even Blush!!

clumsymumsnowdriftbaby · 21/12/2010 17:19

bannana i will say this only once...

GO TO THE DOCTOR!

NOW!

it's probably nothing to worry about, but you should definatly get looked at,sorry, that wasnt what you wanted to hear was it?!

newmum dd had reflux, the reason imo they say that it clears up when you're weaning is beacause of the other things theyre doing at that age ie, sitting up dd's cleared compleatly when she started walking at 7months,it had been getting better since she'd been spending more time upright, sitting or in the hug-a-bub. there is a support thread on here somewhere for babies with refulx, they might be able to help too.it's awful i know but i promise it will be over before you know it! Smile

watersprite · 21/12/2010 17:48

bananastew I would also say go to the doctors and get it checked out. Maybe try and see a female GP. I had a 2nd degree tear and was stitched dont know why you weren't. I have also been checked 3 times down there to make sure everthing has gone back to normal. I would say it took about 2 mths to heal properley.:)

Can't wait for Christmas, so looking forward to our first family Christmas with Maria-Ann.
I've finally figured out how to get Maria-Ann to nap longer than 20 mins during the day. I put her in the swing upstairs and stick the hoover on for 20 mins and then she will sleep between 1 and 2hrs amazing. Xmas Grin today I wanted to put my washing away and put her in the swing without even having to put the hoover on.

watersprite · 21/12/2010 17:50

Maria-Ann 13 wks today Xmas Smile

saoirse86 · 21/12/2010 19:18

banana why are you embarassed if you're a nurse?! Xmas Confused I've had lots of problems over the last few years which means I've got me bits out for loads of people (health care type people, not just people at the bus stop or whatever!) I was cut and stitched and I looked at it after 5 days and found it pretty shocking. I've looked a couple of times since and been checked twice and it looks lots better. get it checked Surely you should know that the GP's seen plenty worse than your flangita! Xmas Grin

newmum I really do get called all sorts in situations like that. I often get ".......... er................. miss lawlor kennedy" or just "er......................" then I have to get up and say I think that's me! I still quite like having an unusual name though.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2010 20:31

I haven't looked bananastew but I got Dh to and r said everything looked normal after 3 weeks. I had a tiny tear with ds1, it wasn't stitched and I was much more uncomfortable for much longer than I was with y second degree tear with Luke. I'm guessing you know what you're looking for and if it doesn't look right get it checked! How does it all feel? I can understand that if it's not aesthetically pleasing but works fine you wouldn't want to see about it. I have to say since havingto children I don't care who looks at my bits and was happily chatting to the dr when she put my coil in.

Agree with clumsymumsnowdriftbaby newmum001. Ds stopped being sick when he started to walk.

bananastew · 21/12/2010 20:54

I'm embarrased because I'm a nurse! I know it doesn't look so wrong that there's something drastically wrong and I also know the GP will try to avoid looking & then if they do just say "its fine!"
I was stitched with ds1 but the midwife just said this time that it would heal quicker with stitches but be more painful and she was right.
saoirse I'm glad you clarified that comment, was about to report you for indecent exposure!

I'm due a smear so I might just have a word with the nurse then. She's lovely. Thats if I'm allowed one. I tried to book one & was told I had to wait for a letter from the reminder people (not sure who they are!) and aren't allowed one till I get a letter!!!!!

patito · 21/12/2010 21:14

Banana see someone soon, is it not possible to see the nurse anyway, smear or not?

saoirse I could go on for ages about problems with my PIL. On the worst for me was when she suggested he didn´t need to learn English yet, he could wait till he went to school as he doesn´t need it yet. Only to speak with his actual mother that is Angry.

Ive wrapped pressies and have put in my order at butchers. Im doing a roast beef dinner as DP doesn´t like turkey and all the trimmings, but thats fine with me. Im seriously missing the mince pies this year though!

clumsymumsnowdriftbaby · 21/12/2010 21:18

banana i aggree, nurse's are often better at these things, probly best to see a nurse if you can.
doctors are often pretty useless imo,i did have one lovely one though, just after id had arlo, and no one had given me any pain killers for a 2nd deggree tear,i was at the doc's for the 3 day check, and started bauling my eyes out! she gave me tons of painkillers and had a look...however ive only ever had one horrid nurse...
so thats one NICE doctor, and one horrid nurse...hmmm.
seems thee ratio's in favor of nurses,i wonder why that is?!
and why are recepionists always such prats?

arlos having his 1st set of vac's on thursday, eek!
also,he keeps scratching his ear Confused
so much he made it bleed last night Sad
anyone have any ideas why?!!

bananastew · 21/12/2010 21:45

Thanks everyone although its making me chuckle that the general advice is to see a nurse who is no more qualified or experienced in these things than me! Thats my dilemma really! I hope that doesn't sound ungrateful or big headed!

clumsy ds1 and his friend used to pull & scratch their ears when they were teething!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2010 21:57

Probably more impartial though bananastew Xmas Wink

Could it be an ear infection clumsymumsnowdriftbaby? Agree about receptionists, think we have actually discussed them on this thread and everyone had the same experience!

mellymooks · 21/12/2010 21:57

clumsy hello! You've been making me chuckle on FB Wink

I think scratching or pulling of the ear can mean an ear infection but usually only if coupled with temperature or general out of sortsness? Is he showing any of that?

We are so snowed in here now we had to trek out to Waitrose on foot today, (which is fine normally a 20 min stroll, if that but today took 3.5 hrs to get there and back!) it was so epic by the time we got there DD was so exhausted she fell asleep in the trolley!!

REALLY hope it's cleared enough by the wknd to travel.....
