A starter for 10 on our Sept 2010 babies as their first Christmas comes nearer! Can't believe we're there already; I was barely pregnant last Xmas!

Hi imnotperfect sorry to hear of your poor ankle Xmas Sad must be a nightmare still especially given the snow and ice!
Re: routines. We have just been lucky with Jack I'm sure. It took no effort to get him to know when bedtime was. Well, after about 5 weeks of horrid fretfulness in the late evenings! I only give him a dream feed if I'm worried he's not fed much in the day (coz he'll really cry when he wakes up starving) otherwise we leave him and are usually woken once or twice at night. I let him tell me when he's tired during the day as he is like his Dad and will nod off amidst anything. Smile
I don't go out much during the days with him as I'm car less most of the time but DH and I have been good at giving each other evenings or weekend days free.
I don't think you should be jealous at all! I look like Worzel Gummidge on my good days Grin xxx

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2010 13:38

newmum001 I just put Luke in his gro bag, on a fleecy sheet onto top of the fitted sheet. Not really sure why, just felt it a bit more cosy on his little head!

Know how you feel sassy34264, my boys are so gorgeous. I'm very lucky that ds1 still loves cuddles with mummy. My best time of the day is when all my minded children go home and I get cuddles on the sofa with both my boys before I start before I start on dinner Xmas Grin

beaditAli I may be controversial but I don't believe in the myth of teething! Jack is exactly the right age to have found his fists, both for staring at and having enough co-ordination to get them in his mouth. Both my boys have been super dribbly and Luke was much worse last week when he had his cold. From what I understand the red cheek thing is only if it's one not both that is red as they do get rosy cheeks just like we do. I just feel that teething is blamed for everything with babies, whether it be nappy rash, sleepless nights, not eating properly or them being grumpy, all of which happen anyway. With ds1 there were a few times where teething granules helped but generally his teeth didn't seem to give him problems, it could be I was lucky but he did have grumpy days and disrupted sleep I just never put it down to teething. I was told when I had ds1 that the earliest a baby has actually had a tooth emerge was 11 weeks and that some can be born with them Xmas Shock. Whoops that became a bit epic!!

I'm lucky with Luke chelle1986 he is always asleep by 7.30 unless we are out somewhere, was in bed last night at 6.30 (pain in the bum for night feeds though Xmas Sad). With Ds1 I just started a routine around the time I wanted to put him to bed. Before he got too hungry I'd change him into a sleepsuit and put him in his grobag (I bathe them in the mornings) then feed him in his room. I would then lay him in his bed and sing him a song, as he got bigger this changed to reading to him while he was on my lap. I then wound up his mobile and left him watching/listening to that while I sat near his cot. I then slowly moved away and was out of the room 10 mins later. After a week I was able to put the mobile on and leave the room straight away with no crying at all.

beaditAli · 08/12/2010 13:38

chelle we're thinking of doing the same soon. I'm worried that it'll be way too quiet for him since he's been used to dropping off in his moses in the living room. Time will tell I guess.
So far, tho with him downstairs, we have cuddles for about 15 mins after his evening feed then asleep or not, put him down. He fidgets for a while and sometimes I'll sit him up to burp but then straight back down again. He'll always be asleep within 20 minutes so I figure/hope this will be the same when he's upstairs.
I put my dressing gown on Jack's chair or resting over the moses if he's being particularly difficult to settle and this seems to comfort him.... you could try that if you can tear yourself away from it! Xmas Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2010 13:45

Hi imnotperfect, I am a childminder and was only able to have 3 weeks off so I have no choice but to be up and dressed otherwise I wouldn't be! Am totally knackered though. Also have found my second baby a breeze compared to first Xmas Grin

beaditAli · 08/12/2010 13:48

x posts cinnamon
Yeah.... some people do seem to say 'oh he's this or he's that' like there's a definite answer for everything. Jack's not showing any other signs so hopefully he's just a fist muncher! Not looking forward to grumpy times if he does suffer tho! He's starting to finish all his 4oz bottles now which is an improvement. (put size 2 teats on)

Chelle1986 · 08/12/2010 14:25

imnotperfect I've added you on FB - I will add you to the group once friend request accepted. (cant do it til then) although that cinnamongreyhound lives up to her name and is quick! she may beat me!! hehe.xxx

watersprite · 08/12/2010 14:34

MammyG Thanks for the advice will try to get her settled for a nap during the day. Some times she just has cat naps which can last for 10-20 mins. I've tried taking her up with me during the day, I lay her on my bed and stoke her face which she likes. Only she has managed 20 mins at the most before screaming and wanting to be pick up. Will keep trying though.

I guess I just have to be a bit tougher as at night I have to rock her to sleep for an hr before I can attempt to put her down to sleep and then she will do 4 hrs. Think I've just got myself into what ever is easiest therefor making a rod for my own back. Xmas Sad

On another note I tried tampons at 6 wks and lost the bloody thing I was so scared, manage to fish it out in the end I really didn't want to go to hospital to have it removed. Not tried them since Xmas Blush

I'm on facebook Rachel Cummings I'm the one with brown short hair and and stood nxt to my O/H Xmas Smile

Chelle1986 · 08/12/2010 14:48

watersprite I cant find you....

Try adding us. Mine is Michelle Clegg (pic is of Olly and a blue teddy.

Chelle1986 · 08/12/2010 14:53

Thanks for the bedtime advice guys.

It just seems that LO is becoming increasingly grouchy in the evenings and will only settle down for a sleep on me. I figure I may as well just put him to bed before reaching this point. He is very good (touch wood) at going down to bed when we go - we normally give him a bottle - whether this be a top-up or a full one - then he falls asleep on our chest and we pop him down with minimal fuss. He then generally sleeps for 6-8 hours on a good night.

Wish me luck for tonight though!! lol. Goin to try and put him down about 8 I think.

All of you - your pics on FB are gorgeous. We are all very, very lucky mummies.

Oh yeah - going for my contraceptive implant in the morning.... Xmas Hmm ....not looking forward to it!

Olly - 10+3

my new mission is to find out how beadit does hearts and penguins!!!! grrrr!!!

Debs75 · 08/12/2010 15:48

Asked to join our facebook group. i am deborah boardley and my pic is 2 of my kids, if that helps.

Had a nice day in town with dc3and4 and my mum. Fed Lucy in a cafe and even tho she was very discreet I still got a couple of stares. No-one said anything, rather wish they had.

Imnotperfect I tend to spend must of my days in pj's as well.

am going to have to relent and give Lucy a dummy to help her settle. None of the others have ever had one so how is the best way to ebcourage her to take it?

Debs75 · 08/12/2010 15:53

CinnamonU i agree re. teething, none of mine have had all the 'usual' symptoms. With dd1 she just whinged for a few hours then popped a tooth. dd2 gets bright red cheeks but we get none of the sore bottoms or excessive drooling. Maybe I just don't notice

mellymooks · 08/12/2010 16:46

chelle I've friend requested you but have also asked to join the group.
But it looks like until whichever one of us is Claire Goldstone accepts the group requests we won't show up in the group.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2010 17:05

It's me mellymooks and I have accepted you Xmas Smile

bellabelly · 08/12/2010 17:08

wow, it's just taken me FOREVER to catch up ladies! will send a request to the fb group in a mo (if I can work out how to... Hmm), would love to have a look at all the baby pics! My RL name is Debbie Bell - think youve seen all the pics of mine on there anyway, not sure I've got round to uploading any since the girls were about 1 week old! Will try and get some more on there soon Smile

Girls have got their 12 week abs tomorrow morning. SOOOOO pissed off with DH, he PROMISED he'd come with me this time (going to docs with double buggy is a total pain) so I booked earliest possible appt time so he wouldn't miss too much time off work and guess what, last night he announced he couldn't come after all. Fuming. To be fair to him, he does help a LOT with the kids generally but I am very very cross. Trying to keep a lid on it because I don't want to say anything I'll regret. But I feel like I'm on a bit of a short fuse with him at the moment! Rant over Grin

bellabelly · 08/12/2010 17:15

OK have requested to be added and also sent friend requests to all of you on the fb group - feel free to ignore if you'd rather keep your privacy!

Dixiebell · 08/12/2010 17:18

Hi all. Arlo has started really chewing his fists in the last week - sticks both of them in his mouth at once somehow! I don't think it's anything to do with teething, as you say, it's just that he's discovered how his arms work and is now able to place his hands with more precision! He's 9 weeks now. He does it a lot when he's tired and it often seems to wake him up, sometimes I hold his arms down when he's trying to drop off.

Okay sorry if this is tmi but I wondered if anyone else has suffered with constipation since giving birth? I was taking lactulose immediately afterwards because of the tearing, but I'm all healed now. But frequently constipated. Never really had problems before but things are definitely different now! It's not really bad, just annoying sometimes and I wondered if it was perhaps linked to breastfeeding? Or things having changed shape down there?! Hope not permanent tho...

Chelle1986 · 08/12/2010 17:33

Right think have managed to get you all on facebook now except debs75 (but have sent you a request) and watersprite (sorry cant find you - think your profile must be locked so only your friends can see it - you will be able to request us though.)

Dixie have we got you on facebook? Sorry cant help re constipation - I seem to be the other way - cant tolerate anything remotely spicy since baby was born - and I normally have loads and loads of spicy food.

xx

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2010 18:01

Yes Dixiebell I'm pretty sure it is related to breastfeeding, had it with ds1 and now as well. I'm not exactly constipated as I can go but it's just very hard and dry. It did go away with ds1 once he started weaning, so I was feeding him less. My diet is the same and I drink a pint of water with every breastfeed to keep hydrated so I can only think it's related to hormones.

Luke has his tomorrow Bellabelly, I don't envy you a double buggy. I leave mine outside when I go to the dr as it has toddlers in it who can get out. I was going to midwife with 6 kids some days from 2 to 7 years and the looks I got were hilarious! Luckily the appointment is before one of my mindees arrives so it's only my dc and one other.

watersprite · 08/12/2010 18:51

Chelle1986 I've just sent you a friend request, The reason you couldn't find me is because I had the setting wrong so no one would be able to find me. Still have the baby brain affecting me, sorted it out now Xmas Smile
