BibiBelle · 27/10/2010 23:09

goodnight lovely ladies, I haven't baked/iced/tidied/washed or showered and I should have been in bed hours ago - someone tell me why I persist in doing this please?!?!

salta · 27/10/2010 23:58

Fjorgyn I was talking with a friend this week about cooking with your children and she said that her daughter helps preparing the evening meal and likes peeling onions. This might be a good strategy?

We got counted today and the ex-president (husband of the current president) died.

DD says auto now, and agua and mama, and maybe door. Interestingly these probably all came from DS rather than me, as they are probably his favourite words and I don't talk to the kids in Spanish. Interesting. She also does declarative pointing which DS didn't manage until 17 months. they are soooo different.

Anyway, wise women,

I am thinking about potty training (thinking note ... not actually doing anything) and was wondering about the night nappy thing.

OK, - so just potty training in the day, but DS usually wakes up at about 5.30am, comes into bed with us and pokes me in the eyes until I kick DH out of bed to take him to the living room, where they play and eat breakfast until I emerge or until DS jumps on me saying "Mummy see-saw". At some point an hour or two after getting up he gets a new nappy. When I do the potty training thing am I going to have to put him into pants straight away at 5.30am when he wakes up?

DS coughing away which is all a bit stressful as his testicle op is Monday. Lets see how it goes.

Love to all.

Bloodberrybatbait · 28/10/2010 05:57

Salta - I wouldn't try him unless you are sure he is ready, we left the potty lying around the house and offered it to her everytime one of us went ot the loo and she looked at us like we were nuts. If left naked we ended up with puddle everywhere and she never told us. When she was ready she asked to go to the pottyand only then did we start with pants. I would say when you do decide to try yes when he wakes offer the potty and then pants and make sure he know where you/the potty are all times so he can ask you and the potty reminds him to go in it.

Stupid o clock wake up here with DD1 I gave in at 5.30 and came down, DD2 was awake at 3am having a shuffle about and singing away to herself then obviously got bored so wanted a feed. She has discovered that she can get places but rolling when naked and by pushing oon her feet when on her back and thumping her feet on the cot mattress makes a good noise!

Merlion · 28/10/2010 10:26

Enya welcome home and glad you got to go see your Dad and say your goodbyes to your uncle. See - told you the DDs would be fine.

Anyone have any tips on the hairdressers? DS and I have just had an abortive visit as he tried to scream the place down. I really don't know what else to do they had thomas on dvd screen he had a packet of smarties and promise of going to soft play afterwards and still it was dreadful and we only managed about 2 snips before we had to leave.

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 28/10/2010 10:32

Merlion I just cut DS's hair myself these days as he refused to let the hairdresser touch his hair either. It does involve following him around with the scissors and snipping at whatever long bits I can reach, but it seems to work okay. Worth investing in a pair of hairdressing scissors, although I must admit I'm still using our kitchen pair.

HippyHippopotamus · 28/10/2010 10:36

merlion...if you solve it please let me know! i'm currently using star's method and its not working so well for us!

alittlebitshy · 28/10/2010 11:00

our visit to the hairdressers got progressively better but today i am actually having a lady come to the house to do both dc's hair as she is going to be waaaaaay cheaper. I can't really do ds's hair myself as it is dead straight so any bad snips would notice. He quite likes it (when we walk past the normal place he points it out) but i will report again tonight!!!!! The last few times dd has gone first and he has been keen to do it having seen her sit still etc....

FjorgynAndHotWater · 28/10/2010 11:02

If you can stand the 'lovely girl' comments just let it grow Grin I just do DS' fringe whenever it starts getting stuck in his eyes, and if you cut it nice and high it's ages before it needs doing again (poor DS Blush)

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 28/10/2010 11:10

Yes, DS's curly mad-scientist hair does make it easier to do a home trim, I must admit.
