Can't get infant gaviscon here. Have a private prescription which dh can fill in the uk next week but i think it'll be too late. The milk I've found is Aptamil AR which you can't get in the UK. Aaaaargh. Think we'll do normal Aptamil with gaviscon when (if) we come back. She's sooo much happier though and I'm hoping she'll take bigger feeds so move to sleeping better at night. Poor darling.

Hermya321 · 07/02/2011 17:45

Oh wow thats tough ILGH, not much advice only to do what feels right for you guys.

I'm meant to be going out tonight, I really can't be bothered. DS has literally puked on everything in sight today, I smell utterly devine as a result of this btw. Really I'm just a stunner at the moment Hmm.

Eau de Baby, what would you market it as?

DS managed to roll from his front to his side today (and then threw up on the carpet), but still it counts as a win.

nymphadora · 07/02/2011 17:52

Cottage cheese hermya?

Hermya321 · 07/02/2011 19:07
Grin
Tysonandthehouseelves86 · 07/02/2011 19:22

Grin @ Hermya. love the roll and throw bless him.

Had a brill day, swimming with Sophie and Archie. Took a photo of Sophie will put it on profile in a minute. She loved it and enjoyed the bubble machine. :)

tiredfeet · 07/02/2011 19:22

ilgh if your instinct is telling you it will all be much easier with formula then I say go for it. I am all for breastfeeding if its working out but if its making you and dd unhappy and stressed then I don't think you should feel guilty at all.

We are trying to persuade ds to drink expressed milk from a bottle but he's having none of it. Am a bit gutted as would really like dh to be able to give me a break occassionally. Will keep trying.

hermya sympathies, ds is always throwing up on me just before we need to go out somewhere!

sam I contacted my local authority to find out about childminders. There's hardly any childcare near us though, getting a bit stressed about it. We could manage for me not to work but I think it would be so much harder to look for a job after a few yrs gap.
Ds rolled from his front to his back for the first time today, while we were at baby sign. It took all my restraint not to interrupt the class to share my excitement with everyone Grin. His favourite thing at the minute is his baby bouncer, he is just so happy the whole time he is in it.

nymphadora · 07/02/2011 19:46

Tired- we are having bottle probs too, she is quite happy to take it & will ask but only chews it & sucks once or twice in 10 mins!

We are having food problems. She keeps trying to get my food. Mashed my falafel yesterday , rammed pizza in my mouth & today dipped her head onto dh pasta sauce Hmm how do we put her off for another 2 months? We distracted her at tea time by swapping over & she spent the rest of tea in the fruit bowl trying to get the grapefruit out. I don't think she'd eat anything yet but I don't want to discourage her to then let her in a few weeks.

nymphadora · 07/02/2011 19:49

Ilgh- think if the formula makes dd happier & helps you relax it's worth it. I see the first 6 weeks as the important bf time & anything after that is a bonus & it's a pretty good reason to give up. You're right to do it gradually don't get mastitis at this point!

Tysonandthehouseelves86 · 07/02/2011 20:02

Put pics on profile :)

dontstopmenow · 07/02/2011 22:04

Hi Guys, wow, had a lot of posts to catch up on.
ILGH it sounds like it is exactly the right thing to do to start with the formula. It is no good adding to the stress already in place with having small kiddies.

Floozie you may have already tried this, but I saw on another thread somewhere that someone used the CD from the Paul McKenna I can make you sleep book to get their kiddies to sleep. Don't know if that would work. Of course I didn't know about that when we were going through the exact same thing! We just suffered through what seemed like a lifetime of putting DS back into bed a thousand times a night!

We have had a busy week or so as DS had to have an op on his eyes to correct a squint in both. He did really well bless him but it was a trying couple of days. I think its typical of prem babies from what I read to have more incidence of squint, or maybe its just one of those things. Anyway, now I just have to pin a strong 4 year old to the floor 4 times a day to put antibiotic drops in his eyes! Good job I am not preggers now as would just not be able to do it.

Hope everyone well and enjoying babies.
:)

tiredfeet · 07/02/2011 22:36

Awww cute pics tyson!! Am all excited now as we are taking ds swimming for this first time this weekend, we're goimg away for the weekend to a cottage with a pool attached, so will be nice to take ds for the first time in a quiet pool (he's a bit pathetic in noisy rooms!)

dont stop that sounds like an exhuasting week, but will be worth it to make him better

We are nearing the end of the thread ladies! Where's the time gone?!!

NoHunIntended · 07/02/2011 23:11

Lovely photos, Tyson! Glad your DD enjoyed her swim in her Sophie Starfish swimsuit!

We went swimming today, our second time. I am going to try and take DS every other day. I love floating about with him, it is fab. We have a floaty ring, and he kicks his legs like a natural!

It was a year ago today that we found out we were going to have a baby! Feels like a lifetime ago. Even feels like ages ago that I was heavily pregnant.

Had him weighed today, he is just over the 50th percentile, same for length, so I am perfectly happy with that. :)

Elsa123 · 08/02/2011 10:47

Hi everyone! ILGH if Genni was happier when you switched to the formula then I agree with you and its a no brainer to gradually swap. Reflux must be horrible for you both. As she'll only have it for a certain length of time, perhaps you could bulk buy the Aptimal (sp?!) AR and send it to the UK for if you move back. Come a year old it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Its good to see so many of you swimming! What swim nappies are you using? I've noticed that Huggies swim nappies start too big for my DD who is a long slim 11ish lbs. Nymph what brand is your neoprene suit for your DD- I am thinking of getting something similar.

All well here, just got back from weekend in London. DD brilliant and loved the Tate Modern. She did get cluster feedy on the afternoon so I ended up carrying her round feeding otherwise I'd have been stuck to the spot. No one seemed to notice Smile. Whenever DH was carrying her around, women melted and cooed over him and DD. The same thing never happens to me when I carry her!

nymphadora · 08/02/2011 11:59

We have huggies elsa sorry. Neoprene suit was from here

Hermya321 · 08/02/2011 13:17

We've not taken DS swimming yet, I'm a little unsure about doing it to be honest. He's not one for being in the bath though so I expect thats why I've not done it yet.

Elsa123 · 08/02/2011 16:41

Thank you Nymph I shall look it up. I'm thinking of perhaps old fashioned plasticky reusables if I cannot find any disposables small enough for ol' slim jim here.

We've had a great day so far. Been to my parents who very kindly dog sat for me over the weekend- no mean feat as my spaniel is hyper. Then I've just done some admin and renewed car insurance and house insurance. I got house insurance for £200 cheaper than the renewal which was a gigantic hike from last year and I got car insurance for £100 cheaper and that included letting them know about my accident last year so all good Smile. Then I had a clothes trying on session and most of my pre pregnancy trousers and skirts fit (YIPEEEE!). The jeans fit but are a little too snug for my own personal comfort so I have some time to go with them. Tops of course are a different matter due to the breastfeeding giant boob issue, but even they are smaller which is great.

DD is back to sleeping through [touches wood].

Elsa123 · 08/02/2011 16:42

Hermya have you got in the bath with your DS?

NoHunIntended · 08/02/2011 17:16

Elsa, we are using adjustable-Swim-Nappy-One-Size-3%252d24-Months-Blue-Fishes.html Adjustable Swim Nappy for the swim nappy, but I also have the Baby Snug to keep extra warm and prevent leakage AND the Baby Wrap. As you can see, I am a bit paranoid about leakage! :)

Went to our first baby group thing today - sing and stories at the library - DS pretty much slept through the whole thing. :)

Elsa123 · 08/02/2011 18:47

Thank you for your recommendations. I have just ordered the happy nappy set which is a reusable nappy with liners and a cover pant. I've also bought a wrap neoprene suit for warmth as Bronwen is a skinny minny.

We're off to Centerparcs at the end of the month and we'd like to take her swimming at the weekend to get her used to it. Se loves having a bath so we hope she'll enjoy the pool. The pic of your DS enjoying his swimming is great NoHun.

NoHunIntended · 09/02/2011 00:09

No worries. Which print did you go for?

Centreparcs sounds fab - have an awesome time! Hope B likes the swimming.

And thanks re photo! :)

floozietoozie · 09/02/2011 06:28

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have a rainforest cd but ds objects the second I put it on as I don't yhink he likes music without singing in it. I think thecproblem is he just needs me with him at the moment to sleep as he's still frightened of being alone on some level. May just have to live with it for a while longer. I did have a night out on Monday, just a few hours for a drink with a friend, but that helped break the monotony for me. Of course ds got up after his audiobook finished (after an hour!), gabbled away to dp even when he went to bed with him in our room where dd was sleeping so had to take him to tge attic instead and he eventually slept about 10.20 [sigh]. Tyson ds is just turned four.

Dontstop - the parallels continue..... Ds has a squint a needs an op for it. Did Mr Watts do yours?

ILGH if Genni is happier on formula don't feel bad about using it. She's had three months bfing which is great.

SamB congrats on your job. Are you an NCT member or do you have access to a local nct email group? People often give/get childminder recommendations on the one I'm on.

elsa I like the sound of bfing in the Tate! Did you have B in a sling?

floozietoozie · 09/02/2011 06:35

Oh and for those that have read the MN classics Pom Bear thread, I finally did so the other night, and after dissolving into laughter the following morning while recalling it, I told dp the salient points - dd is now nicknamed Chopsy! By him I shoiuld add. Poor child.

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 09/02/2011 09:25

Floozie- Grin at chopsy!!

I've been ill the last week, but much better now. Its awful being ill with kids, you don't get a chance to recover so it rumbles on. I was in bed with them at 7 most nights last week!

Dd is gorgeous. I enjoyed the baby phase so much more this time, but goodness I love it when they start to giggle and become little characters.

We've not swum yet, still got colds etc and I'm still paranoid of cold pools and cold changing rooms-I need to get over that!

Elsa-will be very interested to hear how you get on at centreparcs. Which are you going to?

We need thread title suggestions!
Oct 2010: giggles and wriggles

(ok ok poor I know. But just to get you going!!)

Elsa123 · 09/02/2011 11:16

NoHun nearly just called you NoNun then... the wrap is turquoise and yellow and the over pants are lurid pink and orange! Although I think it says Mango and Pink. The nappies are just white. When I was looking at the pic of your DS I noticed that you mention you are trying Ecing. How is that going? There are no outward signs when Bronwen is weeing, but pooing is normally cued by sudden silence and stillness then massive sound effect followed by aaah! She's not exactly a lady in that respect- sorry if tmi!!

Floozie I binned the sling after tripping over with Bron in it, so I was just carrying her with my coat on in case she did a dramatic pull off and expose, but she didn't. I think I surprised DH but I was determined to see the work and not be pinned down all afternoon as she was in one of those moods.

Seashells I love giggles and wriggles- very apt and not at all cheesy in my baby loved up opinion! When I leave Bron to do something, come back and she wriggles with excitement- its lovely.

We're going to Longleat- I am really looking forward to it. We've got a 2 bed villa as we were hoping that DHs parents would want to come as they don't have much money and it would have been a nice break for them and they could have enjoyed DD. However MIL was very concerned that we'd booked it in the winter and basically said that any hint of cold snowy weather and they wouldn't want to go. Then the other day they rang and said it was too far for them to go and they wouldn't be going. Bit of a shame as DH was keen for them to spend time with DD but nevermind.

DD has her 2nd jabs this afternoon I wish I'd made the appt for this morning as I think it would have been less disruptive as they make her very sleepy and it would have fitted in with her morning nap. Oh well. I think it may mean a disturbed night if she's too sleepy to feed before bed then wakes up in the night with a raging hunger!
