memphis, you have to check out this book - it's called Red Velvet and Chocolate Heartache. It's the only book I ever bake from at the moment, and all the cakes are completely butter free, with hardly any sugar.
We might be coming up to your neck of the woods this week if you're going to be in town at all? We never made it on Friday in the end.

memphis83 · 11/10/2010 20:13

needle i will look in book shop for that one, i love baking but so desperate to lose weight have almost stopped my baking trays and tupperware looks neglected unused in cupboard! im at work thursday and friday but if im about would be great to meet up.

ive been trying to lose weight on a real mission except for the odd weekend treat and exercise for 6 weeks and i havent lost anything, i think it may be the depo injection i had, it apperntly can stop you losing weight! but what else is there, cant have implant, the pill ot the coil grr any ideas ladies?

Needle · 11/10/2010 20:38

Well, before I got pregnant my weight loss secret was not eating for six months, so trying to lose weight sensibly is a nightmare. That book is fab though, it's by harry eastwood and all her cakes have a fraction of the fat of normal ones. saying that, if you eat ten cupcakes in a day, it still doesn't help your diet. I'm trying to channel my baking energy into sewing for a few weeks, to try and replicate the domestic buzz!

Well, having lived out of boxes for the last year, and as we'll continue to do so for the next year or so, I don't really do housework. in a four bedroom house, we inhabit just the kitchen and one room. the rest is boxes and junk.

can I ask something? his long do people leave their babies to cry before they pick them up? do you put them to bed awake and hope they go to sleep, or do you hold or feed them till they drop off and then put them down? I'm having serious trouble settling gwen at the moment, and I just don't know how long I can leave her before I'm officially a bad mother, but at the sane time, I can't walk her up and down all night.

Hey cherry! Bakers always welcome to this thread Grin

I bake and eat but certainly don't iron.

memphis DD's room is like a laundry at the mo. I just don't ever seem to be in a washing-sorting mood lately. Funny that.

How did you do his name on the bunting?

copied your meatballs from yday and made a veggie version for dinner tonight! thanks for that. what you doing tonight? Wink

mlic 3 hours Shock

needle sorry to hear you're disappointed with the result. deffo a good idea to get the baby weight off before the next pg tho! make the most of this time before you fall pg again - it's lovely having 2 but life is much more complicated and busy and harder to find time for you to do things just as a couple - which you'll need if you're only just married!

viksam it's hard not to fall out when you have a new baby but if you can get thru it together then i think it makes you stronger. i've been suprised how much extra pressure a second child adds to the mix tho. deffo put me off having more!

tsc good news re dp agreeing with you about clara. it's not easy when your dp/dh doesn't follow the same line with discipline as you. My dh is often too soft with ds which in the long run isn't going to be great for either of them.

when you off to granny dearest's?

drinking lots ready to pee all over her loo? Grin

CakeandRoses · 11/10/2010 21:57

bfeeders.... what have you found gives your baby wind?

these are the things I think mess up A if I eat them:

strawberries
avocado Sad which is one of my faves
possibly tomatoes

I'm pretty sure that large quantities of garlic are the worst thing of all though. I had the most garlicky dough balls and pizza ever on sat and A was up ALL night crying and parping away. I eat garlic pretty much every day so i think it was the amount and the fact it wasn't very cooked.

I saw this re histamimes/colic which i thought was really interesting and not widely-known:

CakeandRoses · 11/10/2010 23:07

needle there's no right or wrong answer to this, you just have to let your own instinct guide you. Also, babies differ so much - one baby's grizzle-to-sleep is another's cry for help.

Mine didn't ever really grizzle, it was the odd squeak or all out crying.

I also struggle to leave either of mine to cry at all so my compromise is to leave dd in her crib but to stay with her and reassure her by ssshhhing and patting her. She will sometimes go to sleep without any help at all but as she gets older and more alert she's tending to need a bit of patting/ssshhing more often.

The key is to get them in a relaxed and sleepy state (but not actually asleep) when you put them down, if possible. Easier said than done though!

kkfairybrains · 11/10/2010 23:09

Lol mlic at the pilliwcases and not duvets! You have funny little ways!!
Vik i went to portsmouth as my cousin bought me a ticket for having ellie! Shes working in the football club for a few months and has the most amazing apartment right on the waterfront. Was a lovely break and appreciate it so much!
Stac yeah it was lovely to see her! Although id swear she was in a mood with me cos she wouldnt look at me for about 2 hours!! shes fine now though!
Welcome cherrypie!
Well first night in the big cot tonight and she loves it! Shes asleep now and she has arms and legs panned out! Think she likes the extra room!

Needle · 12/10/2010 01:46

Lol, kk, gwen went into her big cot on Saturday night, she ended up waking up at two thirty, so I fed her and we gave her a cuddle in our bed, next thing we knew it was 7 am and we'd all fallen asleep. She seemed happy enough last night though. I'm just hoping that she's only waking up at night because of a growthspurt and it isn't going to become a habit :-s

Aw the poor little thing mlic. How did he sleep? Yeah ellie sleeping good i thought she might strange in the cot but she didnt. Not yet anyway! Its only been one night though so im under no illusions! next step is inti her own room and thats definately not gonna be easy cos she likes to see us beside her
needles its just so easy to have them in the bed sometimes!

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/10/2010 09:36

needle Dylan would never fall asleep on his own just lying in his bed, I feed to sleep every night, it works for me despite people telling me Im making a rod for my own back. Im past caring now, just do what works for you, deal with the repercussions later.

Dylan's sleep is getting worse, he's up more in the night despite sleeping in my bed and he is very unsettled when he is supposedly sleeping. He was up at half 6 wanting to get out of bed and play so DP took him so I got an hours more sleep.

Im going to bluewater today, apparently their baby changing/feeding facilities are amazing, cant wait to check them out!
