dh pop the milk in warm water, it defrosts really quickly. and Sam's a way off sleeping all night yet!

This reflux business is awful :(

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/10/2010 12:11

I didnt know I could do that! Its half defrosted in the fridge now though so would that still be safe?

yea, I'm always forgetting to get it out so I have to resort to warm water. It's not done either of mine any harm, can't see how it would really :) but then I defrost mine out on the side cos it takes freaking ages to defrost in the fridge.

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/10/2010 12:57

lol thanks :)

So if I get it out the freezer and straight into warm water, does it need to be given straight away or can I store it at room temp for a while? Or does it need to then go in the fridge?
Surely if I defrost it in warm water the milk will then be warm..

Omg this is so confusing!

Dh - kellymom is usually good for these kind of things re bm (sorry can't easily check for yoiu as on blackberry with slow connection at swimming pool watching dh and ds swim while I drink tea and mumsnet!)

Afaik, bm is pretty resiliant stuff as it has good bacteria or antibodies which keeps it fresh longer than you might think. It lasts in the back of the fridge flipping ages for instance - some sources say 5-8 days! It's best to smell it to check as it goes off the same as cows milk.

Enjoy your time off. Try to just relax and switch off.

I can't believe the state I used to get in about leaving ds when he was small. He was colicky and I knew he'd cry off and on most of the time we were gone. But we all got thru it, babysitter (my angel of a father) included!

bleeurrrrggghhhh!!!
we are all sick sick sick in my house. This happens whenever DH moves job. We all get all the germs that school kids have (especially juniors, yuck!) brought home and we have no immunity because we just moved here.
I want to curl up and cry and the kids are both whining and crying at me constantly. I know they are in pain. I am in pain.
Roll on wine O clock!

(not that I'll be drinking any wine. I suspect I will tuck kids in bed and then fall asleep in the nursery Sad)

Successful day I think. Dylan was an angel for DP's dad. We had a lovely lunch and lovely something else at home Wink

He's now asleep and has been for about an hour and a half! So unlike him, he's usually awake all evening, hopefully it is the start of something new :)

CakeandRoses · 09/10/2010 20:59

Who's watching the x factor now? :-)

Need advice please...

I'm weighing up whether to go to champneys for the day at end of oct but can't decide whether it'll be too much expressing. How many ounces do you think I'd need to leave if I'm away between 8.45am and 5pm? I reckon she has roughly 5 feeds max in that time usually.

Chulita · 09/10/2010 21:06

I reckon on 5-6 oz per feed (although S only drinks about 4 usually) plus 2 feeds spare cos sometimes they drink more because they don't have the comfort of your boob. So that'd be 7 bottles of 6oz and if you start expressing as often as you can from now I reckon it's doable depending on how much you can express. That's probably loads but I'm paranoid about leaving my LO with someone and having them scream with hunger! I'm hoping to take DH out for his birthday on the 31st and will be leaving 2 6oz bottles with my brother despite the fact that S rarely wakes up between 7pm and midnight.

Cheers Chulita and tsc.

I can usually get about 5oz per session, from one side normally as I tend to feed A from the other side at the same time. Last time I did it in front of an 'audience' I had F saying 'Noo! Mummy, Ow! Noo!" and DH laughing hysterically Hmm

I'm a bit scared about expressing too frequently and upping my supply again especially after having this mastitis mare.

I'm using Avent bottles and teats, just cos they came with the pump. I've just bought slower-flow Avent teats tho as A was drowning herself with the other ones, haven't tried them yet tho.

tsc what does Frankie do when you offer him a bottle?

Sorry, I did just giggle at the scratch! Grin

silly question but did you manage to get C or K to take a bottle?

just wondering if it's your 'technique'? i don't mean that to sound cheeky Smile, it's just we couldn't get F to take a bottle and now i'm wondering if its that we did it differently to what we've done with A.

re expressing upping my supply, i guess if i could be arsed to express at the same time every day then my supply would just increase enough for that express. sound right?
