Tea Nice coat. I've lost 40lbs since having DD so my winter coats are a bit big too. But that'll change now that I'm preggers again. I am not going to buy a maternity coat though. Who needs to spend the money on that. Man, I gotta get to the gym or its not going to be just my belly that gets big. Wink

Teaandcakeplease · 23/10/2010 19:13

I haven't dieted at all since having DD 3 yrs ago, the loss of weight is just life in general, with very little money for naughty things, just basic food items, so barely any alcohol and rarely any chocolate/ crisps etc in the flat, as those aren't essentials, although nice Smile So it has slowly dropped off, as well as the stress of the break up a year ago.

Had a lovely day in London with FIL and H and DCs. No awkward discussions about Christmas just fun with DCs and then home again. FIL was in the area for a few days.

Feeling sleepy but happy.

Very quiet on here, do you have snow yet Chef?

Rrrrayray · 24/10/2010 20:28

Wow. it IS quiet on here. Did i miss a new thread?

Has dinner party last night. Went great. Been having lazy ish day at home, what else are sundays for! Put Curtains up in E's play room.

Chilling out for X Factor now.

Hope all well elsewhere! x

Teaandcakeplease · 24/10/2010 21:09

I thought I'd killed the thread Wink

Sounds like a lovely day. Maybe people are enjoying half term so much they've got no time to post Wink and Envy as my life isn't that interesting here Grin

missjackson · 25/10/2010 11:20

All fine here - had OH's 40th birthday party yesterday which was sooo much work - and of course did way too much food, but it was great and everyone had a good time. I was making sloe gin fizz for drinks (sloe gin and cava, pretty lethal!) as I always think the key to a good party is to get everyone pissed. Sadly not me!

Now have 5 days in which to pack and organise last few things.

Hope everyone is surviving half term!

treedelivery · 25/10/2010 16:18

Hi all.

Just lost a nice large post Hmm Am really tired after just 2 nights. Don't know what's the matter with me these days!

MissJ - good luck with all the packing x

HKZ - if you had a low Hb around your due date they may well suggest you deliver in a consultant unit, as anyone who is low on iron is more likely to bleed under any trauma. So for birthing women, that would be the placental site after separation, and any tissue damage from tears or that e word.

However, if it can be corrected then they will probably consider you to have an an unchanged risk status.

It's important to get soemone to look at the result and see if it is a simple iron deficiency, if there is any folate deficiency, or if there is no defiency at all and the picture is one of blood dilution - which is a normal change in pregnancy.

Am sorry for not typing more, there is a problem with me and mumsnet. The words are conming up ages after I type and I can't see what I'm writing! Bad baaaaaad typos Grin

Rrrrayray · 25/10/2010 20:01

tree Talking of levels of care during pregnancy, After waters went, had swab taken which AFTER had delivered came back with Strep B. Which of course was worrying and kept close eye on Esme, but am i day dreaming it or does it mean with any further deliveries will require antibotics? As obviously would like to go down the birthing centre route when we get round to having No.2, but will that be possible?

MissJ Good luck with the packing

Tea Anything nice planned for 1/2 Term?

Snuggled up by Roaring Fire, Lush, DH watching Football, E been asleep since 6.30pm, was begging to go to bed. Happy days.

Waves to the rest of you busy bees! x

Lenni · 25/10/2010 20:06

Hello, sorry I am also not posting much. Am madly trying to sort out life pre job and pre Christmas. We've had a stream of visitors, DH been away more than he's been here the last month it seems and this week also away so just not had chance.

Will try harder to pop on from time to time, I end up out of the habit. Nothing to report, still having hell with molars but gone on so long now that seems normal. DD being a PITA of epic proportions but that also has faded into background fuzz it has been so long since we last had a nice day from her. Will help when her Dad is back. I also need to do some kind of skin thing to rid myself of hellish skin before this wedding. Urgh.

Anyhow, enough of my rubbish, hope you are all okay.

Rrrrayray · 25/10/2010 20:38

Big hug for you Lenni x

moosemama · 25/10/2010 21:16

Er, hello. Smile

Thought I'd better come and post something as its almost a month since I last posted on here. I have pootled about the SN boards a bit when I've needed help, but that's about it.

Haven't wanted to post on our thread, as life continues in the shitty vein it was in before I stopped posting. Lots of sick kids, followed by sick parents, followed by sick kids, then sick kids and sick parents at the same time - oh and sick dogs (one of them seriously) to boot! Hmm Won't bore you with the grisly details, but suffice to say, in seven weeks, we haven't had a single week without somebody going down with a/the vomiting virus. Shock

Things are still trotting along for ds1 at school. Lots of stuff coming together, but still having to keep pushing and fighting. We do have some great people on our side now though, so its not all bad and I don't feel so alone.

It's all been pretty full on to be honest and I've only just managed to get through it by the skin of my teeth. There have been some verrry low points. That said, this is just the start of things really. We have a long way to go and a lot more fighting to do, so I can't collapse yet.

So that's me really. Chaotic, stressful life as usual, but don't want to bore you all by constantly mooing on about it all. So will pop by occasionally when things aren't so bad if that's ok?

Ray, am very jealous of your real fire - we would love one but have a hopelessly inadequate 1950s fireplace and a chimney that hasn't been swept since before I was born.

One nice thing on the horizon is our evening out to see Christy Moore in concert on the 3rd. It will be my first night out since June 2009! Shock Oh - and I'm having my hair cut and high/low? lighted next Monday as well, so hopefully that will give me a bit of a boost.

Sorry to have not read the thread. Will try to do better and read occasionally to keep up with everyone's news.

Hope you are all doing ok though. Smile

Teaandcakeplease · 25/10/2010 21:54

Not really. Had a walk in the woods today, followed by a hot choc at the garden centre. I wrote all about it on my other thread for recently ditched women but as this thread is so quiet I decided not to bore people type it on here Smile Wink

Oh Moosey lovely to hear from you ((hugs)) lovely. So sorry things are so rubbish Sad Hair cut sounds lush! Enjoy your night out, will be very very well deserved! Keep plugging away with the anti bac spray on door handles etc hopefully the sickness will all pass soon x

Hope packing is going well Miss J, very exciting!

Lenni - when I see the pics of your DD on fb they so remind me of my cheeky 3 yr old. I sympathise hope things get better soon x

treedelivery · 26/10/2010 00:03

Hellloooo Moose. Big hugs to you, and pop in or out whenever and however. But will still be thinking of you regardless.

On the strep B thing, units vary on this one I think. There isn't a huge amount of evidence on the best practice, as there aren't many cases and how on earth would you trial it anyway. I suspect they would say treat with antibiotics in labour. Some midwifery units are happy to do this, some aren't. So it is really different depending on the personal experiences of the consultants and the unit.

A midwifery manager at the unit could tell you though, to save you wondering.

So our news - dd2 appears to be asleep in the bottom bunk! I am in bed looking at an empty cot [hconfused] It feels rather sad, but right. IYSWIM.

I love Lenni. Thank you for all the Ucas advice. I could happily never see a personal statement ever again. Hateful horrible things. So much easier when you are 18 and have nothing to say. Except how working in Boots on a saturday makes you a great person. Big grown ups have to really look like they have achieved something other than winning a down the pint comp. Nightmare.

A friend tells me I am in the mn babybook. Nothing too daft happily. Something about colic. Naturally!

CAn't bear typing with this delay thing, off to email tech or someone [hhmmm]

hackneyzoo · 26/10/2010 16:50

Hello all, have read everything, will try an dpost later, am up in Newcastle.

Tree, thanks for that info on the HB count. AM stuffing my face with iron rich food and am going to ask them to check the cause of deficiency.

Ray, I am GBS+, and still had a HB with DS and intend to this time. There is good info here and here. FWIW my midwife each time has advised me to get tested privately as NHS test is notoriously unreliable for false positives. Each PCT seems to have a different policy on where and how you can give birth if you are positive. Think it also depends largely on whether you intend to take anitbiotics when you are in labour or not.

Hope everyone is having a nice half term, its bloody freezing up north!

moosemama · 26/10/2010 18:04

Hi again

Have five minutes, so thought I'd pop back. Realised I lied yesterday, as obviously the wedding in August was a night out so Christy Moore will be my second in 12 months. In my defence I think I mentally excluded the wedding as I didn't want to go and found the whole thing really stressful. The concert is something I want to do rather than have to do iykwim.

Dd is being so cute at the moment. She has learned to say "pardon me" whenever she passes wind, it totally takes people by surprise every single time she does it - and of course is a BIG hit with grannies. Grin Can't keep up with her speech to be honest, she's streaks ahead of where her brothers were at this age and they were both early talkers.

I have also noticed that she has much better fine motor control than either of her brothers (then or now to be honest). She's currently sitting in the middle of the floor with her colour doodle, drawing excellent circles one after the other and saying "round and round". She also has a penchant for drawing lovely regular zigzag lines whilst saying "Look Mummy, zigzags".

I'm starting to get a bit worried that I won't be able to keep up with her as time goes on. She's still tiny (just going into 12 months clothes) but so sharp its scary.

Oo, I know what I wanted to ask you guys. I am looking for a lovely dress for her to wear to a photoshoot for MIL's birthday present. She is having a canvas done of all her GC. There's no colour scheme and I want to find something really special that will do for Christmas day as well. Have looked on ebay and quite a few online shops, but drawn pretty much a blank. Have seen a couple of traditional smocked numbers with puffed sleeves that I was tempted by, but not sure. Any ideas?

Rrrrayray · 26/10/2010 19:22

Moose Wow, E Speech is astounding me, but sounds like you have genius child there ;-) Isn't it funny how they all develop differently. As a child i was a early talker, late walker, DH was the opposite. LOL @ Pardon me. Great mental image.

Hkz / tree Thanks for the advice on strep B. I guess i will cross the bridge for real when the time comes. We aren't thinking of having DC2 or even trying until next Autumn.

Tink sorry to hear about car, what a pain.

Dog Poor Joss and you. When is his next Cranial App?

E Woke up with puffy eye this morning. Took to Docs who doesn't think Conjunct. instead got piriton as think allergy. Allergy to what i don't know. fingers crossed it'll work!

MIL on route to us. Grrrroan. I feel my whole body tensing when she is coming. Urgh!

Rrrrayray · 26/10/2010 19:24

Oh, almost forgot. Moose Zara do THE most beautiful dresses in my opinion. Everything from funky dresses to traditional pinafores. They also have some autumnal (inc. Red) colours in, so would double well for Christmas. xx

moosemama · 26/10/2010 19:34

Thanks Ray, will check Zara out. Smile

Poor E, I read somewhere recently that a lot of people are allergic to the leaf mould that hangs around in the air in the Autumn.

As for describing dd as genius - I think precocious might be a better word if I'm honest. She's becoming quite the littlest dictator in our house recently - definitely getting into the terrible twos. Never had it with either of my boys, so its all come as a bit of a shock really. Hmm

Tink, forgot to say earlier, but poor you with the car trouble. That happened to us when we were first married and again when we were training our 'then' aggressive dog at dog club and there was a good few feet of snow on the ground. Came out of the club to find the car gone and no means of getting home. Fortunately the trainer took pity on us, put his own dogs on the back seat and ours in his crate and gave us a lift home. The car was found next day dumped a few miles away and burned out. Angry It was only a Maestro. Blush We also had joyriders smash into dh's van when he had his own courier business. He had to hire a van while the insurance fought about the claim for over 12 months and the cost of the hire wiped out any earnings. Again with the Angry The horrible little urchins that do this sort of thing have no idea how much trouble their 'little bit of fun' causes for people - nor do they care I suppose. Makes you wonder how some peoples' minds work doesn't it? Hope you manage to get a new car sorted out soon.

missjackson · 26/10/2010 19:38

Monsoon dresses lovely too, from what I have seen - she sounds like such a smartie Moose, and still so tiny! The boys of this thread would probably be twice her size.

No time to stop for proper post but am reading. Hugs to dog for the ongoing reflux, and hugs to tea too, sounds like you could do with one.

tink too bad about car, are you insured for that?

hkz can't remember the name of the iron supplement that comes in a bottle - would that help? MM might remember, she took it for restless legs I remember. Awful backache here, feel like my joints have gone all loose and spread, leaving my coxsix (sp???) in agony after a few minutes of sitting. Flight is going to be hell!

Lenni life sounds busy.... but good.

After big party on Sunday, then had OH's friend, wife and 2 kids turn up to stay Monday night and N with stinking cold... all of my hostessing warmth is well and truly gone now.

3 days left to pack. Then to London for the weekend for much needed bikini wax, pedicure etc. Monday = flight!

moosemama · 26/10/2010 20:08

Well remembered MissJ, especially about the restless legs.

I used Floradix when I was expecting dd and it brought my levels back up. I was initially told I couldn't go for a hb as my iron levels were too low.

A good alternative is Spatone as its tasteless and you can just add it to fruit juice.

Both are better than the tablets as they don't have the er, nasty side effects.

Sorry to hear you are having joint pain. I had that with all three and its the pits. Would it be worth investing in a maternity belt to give your pelvis a bit of support do you think?

I always forget how small dd is until we meet a baby who is several months younger yet bigger than her. We are seeing my Great Nephews tomorrow, the youngest is one day short of a year younger than dd and he dwarfs her. Shock The amount of people that either look shocked when they hear her talking, or comment on how early she's walking is amazing. No-one ever guesses her age right. Still, makes for cheap baby clothes as she's in each size for ages. Grin

You must be so excited now, not long before the off. Smile

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 20:33

Thank you for the hugs Smile Miss J.

Ahhh Moose so nice to read and hear from you. I often lurk and read but do not post as much. Good to have you about, even if it is fleeting with everything on your plate. I bought an amazing pink sparkly dress from Asda for DD last year and people love it on her. It's really cute and was of course cheap Smile

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 20:36

My DD was way ahead development wise, to where DS is at the same age and she had excellent motor skills. I thought it was a boy/ girl divide. But I'm starting to think maybe I'm wrong from the sounds of it Confused She was a handful by DS's age. Lots of sending to the naughty spot.

Teaandcakeplease · 26/10/2010 20:37

Tink - so sorry to hear about the car Sad

Ray - my MIL is a nightmare so I feel your pain.

moosemama · 26/10/2010 20:53

Hi Tea

I think it all evens itself out in the end really.

Ds1 has suspected dyspraxia and I have my suspicions that ds2 has it to a lesser degree as well. I guess I'm just relieved that dd doesn't seem to have the same problems. I almost cried the first time she pointed to show me something, as ds1 has never pointed in his life and it was such a relief.

I am in no doubt that its not an indication that she's likely to be a superbrain or anything. I have known so many little ones that all developed at different rates, with the ones that were slow starters ending up really academically able and the early developers turning out to be fairly average.

I think having older siblings has a lot to do with it. There's always someone to talk to/play with around here, so she's constantly stimulated. That said, we don't do toddler groups - yet - and that's something I worry about. I really need to pluck up the courage to take her along so she learns to get along with her peers as well as older children and adults.
