Sorry, no thread title inspiration here either.

We need 120, she's good at titles. Do you think she's sold up and moved house maybe?

Tree, ds1 had a moon in my room last year and I hate to say it but its pants! It eats batteries, the longest it can stay on for is half an hour and the light is too bright for the boys to fall asleep to. Ds was very disappointed with it. Sad

Dog, glad dd is ok. They didn't xray dd the first time she went in when she broke her wrist either. The consultant said they try to avoid xrays with children these days. I read on another thread that they do tend to xray if they have any concerns about it being stuck in the throat though.

Dd has been a nightmare today, no, no flipping no to everything.

dd: "I hungry"
me: "Do you want a sandwich dd?"
dd: "No"
me: "What about an apple?"
dd: "No"
md: "Mummy's having some toast, would dd like some toast?"
dd: "NO! NO! NO!"
me: "OK, fine."

Moose dares to sit down on the sofa for the first time all morning with a couple of slices of toast.

dd "TOAST! I HUUUNNNNGGGGGRRRYYYY! Sob sob wail!"
me: AAARRRGGGGGHHHH!!!

Grin

The above conversation has been repeated at least one hundred times this morning over every little thing.

They hardly ever xray Dog, becasue they won't act on it. Well, that's what they told me when dd1 went in at about 12-18 months. The rusty screw incident Blush
Bless her, hope she's relaxed now and not so scared.

Lets start new Christmas thread, and we'll kick off with a list of presents and exciting/lovely/cosy plans for food/visits/etc.

Now, who can think of a nice title?

Aw Moose. It is a really big thing though isn't it. An independant step. Aww.
The extra large like-a-bike is really new apparently, so I can't imagine there will be any about preloved or similar. I don't know what to do.

Hi Tink Smile

Saw on fb that dd1 is ok after 20p swallowing escapade, so that's good.

Went to town today, as a new small ToyMaster has opened. They stock the Moon in my Room and some science experiment kits I wanted for dd. Well betweem all the crap piled up on the floors, no prices on things, their no return just refund policy, and the fact that I can get it all for a few pounds cheaper online - I ended up flouncing out.
I made a huge effort to go too, just to support the town really, and use the few shops we have. Blow that. Plus I am in a cashback website so can glean the odd few ££ that way too - when I buy online. It's sad though. It's hard to get the excited Christmas shopping feeling when it's all so hard and you are always thinking 'hmm cheaper on amazon'. Yet it's lovely to do the shop, and see the stuff, and have a nice time mooching about. Not in our town. Wondy, cold, inaccesible and bleak. No atmosphere at all Sad
I'm doing it all online, but will try go for the independants rather than amazon. Compromise. Smile

Morning Tink.

How's dd1 Dog?

I am a daft soft Mummy who has had a little cry whilst packing ds1's sleepover bag. Blush He's never been away overnight before, except for staying at my Mum's if we are away overnight ourselves. Its going to be awfully quiet around here this evening. Sad

£80.00! Shock Gosh that is a lot, I was thinking maybe £65 max. Has she seen one up close and personal or just in a catalogue? If she hasn't actually had a play with one, I'd be worried she wouldn't actually like it when it arrived.

The armour looks ok on t'internet, but apparently is quite thin plastic and tears easily - hence my thinking its trashy. But, its what he really wants and he's not generally very emphatic about these things so I gave in.

Could you perhaps look for a preloved like-a-bike? Or a different brand perhaps. There are loads of them out there now.

I think I'm going to be sneaky and ask dh's great aunt to buy the robot. She will approve because its eco and creative.

I have to slope off to bed now. My eyes keep closing and I'll be asleep with my head on the keyboard in a minute. Feels like today has been a hundred years long.

It's blooming £80!!

I love that cardboard robot, and I suggest that dh is actually Envy and worried he will want it more than ds and end up nicking it Grin

I rather like the armour Blush.

DD1 has asked nana for either the biggest like-a-bike [£200Shock] or a radio controlled car. I've said go with the car, but now I feel bad as both mum and dd are a bit glum. What to do what to do?

One of ds2's major hobbies is designing robots that then get cut out and cut in his scrapbook. They all have different characteristics, names and skills.

With this is mind, I would dearly love to buy him this. Dh has vetoed it as a ridiculous amount of money for a jumped up cardboard box. Hmm But I know he would lurrrve it and I really want to buy it for him.

I have seen it for £17 elsewhere, but apparently that's still too much. Angry

Cross posted Tree. Grin That rocket looks great. Is it mega spondoolies though? I have found over the years that whatever ds2 asks for as his must have prezzie, is the one thing he never plays with. Hmm The only positive side to that is that we have a nice collection of toys for dd that have barely been played with. Grin

He has asked for the most hideous plastic trashy armour that you can customise this year. here He wants the red and gold variety. Hmm

Ds1 is waaay cooler than that and has asked for Bigtrak. Grin

Cheers Moose and stripey SmileMoose that mum sounds a total star Moose. It is good news stripey, regarding the fees - for sure. Be even better if they postpone it a few years...Grin

Dog - I'm sure it will be fine. I echo what Moose says, they will establish where it is and take it from there. We thought dd1 swallowed rusty screws when she was about a year. They passed a metal detector over her tummy, t looked very cute. Her face was all 'wtf??'. The doc said they wouldn't operate as the gut is so clever and lines up the item so it can pass safetly.
Hopefully she has swallowed it all the way down. If not they might be able to reach it, let us know how she gets on.
Poor you!

Dog, it happens a lot and A&E depts are used to it. They will probably xray to check its position.

If its lodged in the throat, they may be able to remove it. I think they use a similar local anaesthetic spray that they use for endoscopy type procedures to do it.

If its travelled further they will ask you to ... er ... watch and wait for its exit.

If it hasn't made an appearance in a week they will do another xray to double check whether it has exited and been missed or how far it has got through the digestive system.

stripeywoollenhat · 11/11/2010 20:48

dog, i'm sure she'll be fine. i think if she can tell you she's scared she's going to die, then it's not doing anything too dangerous, surely. it may be a bit horrible getting it out or maybe she'll have to poo it out, but twenty pences aren't that big, are they?

i recommend tea. i'll virtually enjoy it with you...

moose -about a week after each test, so we won't have the numbers for another couple of weeks

windows keeping it all out, tree Smile. good news about the fees. relatively speaking, you know what i mean...

Hellooooo Tree! Missed ya matey. Grin

Fortunately ds doesn't really have any bedtime rituals, other than saying his little angel poem to keep him safe overnight:

Angels, Angels all around,
Angels, Angels come surround,
Hold the family's hands throughout the night
Guide us from the dark to light.
Happy dreams for our family tonight please Angels.
Thank you.

If he's feeling particularly vulnerable he also says:

Angels, please circle our house with a love and light and keep us safe throughout the night.

(All this from a non-religious family. He adapted the first one from a book I bought him when he was tiny. Smile)

... and having his beloved bunny. (We've had a chat and he's going to do his Angels when he goes to the toilet before bed Grin).

Its a glow-in-the-dark sleepover party with four boys from ds's class, including ds and his best friend (who is the birthday boy). Fortunately, all the boys have been hand picked by the mum and are all sweeties. The mum is also lovely, knows ds really well and has asked everyone to bring their favourite cuddy, so bunny won't stand out at all.

I've bought him some new 'cool' pjs and he's borrowing dh's sleeping bag, which has made him feel very grown up. Grin The only possible sticking point is that they are watching Small Soldiers and ds has the whole movie phobia thing going on. We have had a chat and he has decided that he is going to try and watch it, but if he doesn't like it he will take a book to read in the other room until it finishes.

The Mum actually approached me to reassure me that she will call if there are any problems and they live all of 2 minutes from our house. I doubt there will be any though, as she is so lovely and handles ds really well (she's known him since our boys were in nursery). I'll still fret, even though it is %1000 better than the flipping outward bounds weekend he wants to go on in April next year. Shock

College thing sounds like a great idea. I really hope it works out for you and you end up with two teachers in the family.

Glad dh got his reference through and the UCAS form has gone off. Nothing to do but think positive now then.

Lol at "no Mummy". That seems to be dd's favourite phrase at the moment - her other one being just "NO!" followed by a raging tantrum. Hmm

Stripey, I love it when its raining and howling wind outside - it definitely helps me to sleep. I sleep really well in the camper if its raining - love the sound of all those raindrops on the metal roof. Grin

Agree detoxing is pants to go through, but so worth it for how much better you feel afterwards.

When will you get your test results?

E fell asleep in her pushchair on the school run, so I brought her inside still in it and left her to sleep. She woke up an hour later and refused to let me get her out, then when I went back two minutes later she was fast asleep again. Ended up sleeping for two and half hours - until 5.30 and I was fully expecting her to be wide awake and refusing bed, but she actually asked for her 'jamas' and had a tantrum because we wanted to eat our tea first. Grin She wet up with dh quite happily and I am enjoying the first child free time of the day. Much needed after a huge meltdown from ds1 about what he should wear for India day at school tomorrow. [exhausted from child overload emoticon]

Just read this back and its huge, but am too tired to edit. Sorry.

moose, good to hear your dog has perked up a bit - i know dealing with meat is bit bleurgh, but no worse than dog food... and that things generally seem better. are you the kind of person who is soothed by the sound of wind howling outside when they're trying to go to sleep? am currently lounging on the sofa in front of the fire listening to it wail around the house: it's very cosy... (it would be cosier if i didn't suspect one of the cats of depositing a flea on the couch, but hey... can't treat now till sunday, have to get c out if we are spraying those kind of toxins around)

detox is just horrid: following a programme by the fascist marilyn glenville which is supposed to get your eggs all ship shape. had the first blood test yesterday, i think the next will be towards the end of next week. we'll see how it goes.

so c went to bed with barely a whimper today, after three days of kicking up. this toddler business is a bit wearing - i swear sometimes she just sits repeating 'no no no' just generally, as though to the universe... she is cute though, sorting out sentences now.
