I'm a bit behind on the thread as I have been venturing into relationships topic again but DOG have you seen this thread? I know you mentioned something about this down thread somewhere.

Hope you have a good days with DCs despite H having to go to work afterall. You'll be fine Smile

teaandcakeplease · 28/09/2010 11:16

By the way I've booked Butlins Minehead for 4 days beginning of April next year with just me and DCs as they had a good deal on. Going to pay slowly by installments to ease cost. Cannot remember who recommended it originally to me. But thank you Smile Hoping I can cope on my own ok. Eeek!

tea - hol sounds greatGrin

mm - what is a wlf spider sounds gross!!

hi to everone else

lol @ courgette

moosemama · 28/09/2010 12:19

Tink www.nhm.ac.uk/nature-online/life/insects-spiders/identification-guides-and-keys/spider-bites/rustic-wolf-spider.html this is a wolf spider]] now you know why I'm scared of them and we get loads of them in our garden. Shock

Am confused now though, because the ours always seem to weave huge webs across walkways/alleyways, between trees and we've even had one span a massive six foot gap between the camper and the hedge! If they were wolf spiders technically speaking they wouldn't weave webs because they hunt their prey - hence the name.

The ones we have are huge and do look just like wolf spiders though. Have looked at hundreds of pictures online and its the only uk spider ours resemble.

Might try that courgette yet! Grin

teaandcakeplease · 28/09/2010 12:24

Oh I've got one of those in my hall right now but he's happy and leaves me alone and so I'm leaving him alone. It's the big hairy house ones that I hate. I think he blew in through the window.

Oh the second link is still spiders in the bath HKZ I do remember that program I think. Sure I've seen it before Hmm

moosemama · 28/09/2010 13:58

Ha ha Dog!

Dd loves that episode of Come Outside. Grin

HKZ, my boys love Spider in the Bath, they have some on video - we are old fashioned and do still own and watch videos, well the dcs do anyway.

I'm not actually scared of spiders normally, am fine to deal with house spiders (we get the huge hairy legged ones as well Tea) and don't put them out unless they are encroaching on my bed or likely to drop on my head. I won't let anyone kill one either, they have to be gently picked up and carried to a nice bush for shelter. Blush Dh was particularly unimpressed last time I asked him to do it as it was a jumper and a biter - only small, but it actually left fang marks in his thumb - I told it was probably a baby and he frightened it! Grin We have a 'Borris' who is currently living in a little hole on the corner of our stairs, he comes out to say hello to us, then legs it back inside. The dcs have grown very fond of him - I think they prefer him to the dogs. Hmm

The thing about the one outside the window is that it is huuuge and all stripy and hairy - it looks like a stunted tarantula. I don't mind it being out there where it belongs, I just don't want it in my living room.

I have just baked gluten free rock buns and drop biscuits made with low fat creme fraiche. Had to guesstimate as the battery has died in my scales, but the rock-buns have come out lovely. The drop biscuits are weird. More like a cross between a drop scone and a muffin, very nice though. Will try them with butter and jam for the boys' after school snack.

Guess what - was walking down the road to fetch the dses from school yesterday and ds1's coach had just returned from swimming, so they were all lined up being counted etc. Ds1 was at the front of the line, so I smiled and waved as I went past and he shouted "Oi Mum, someone stole my underpants at the swimming baths!" Shock Grin "Yes" says his teacher "I'll have a quick chat with you when we come out of school if that's ok?". Apparently they checked the entire changing rooms with no luck, so ds had to come home with no pants on.

It gets worse, when we got home, he was desperate to tell me he had no pants on, so as I was folding the pushchair - he dropped his trousers - while the front door was still open! Shock Fortunately the campervan was parked with its winter cover on and that preserved his dignity. Needless to say we had a bit of a talk about inappropriate behaviour afterwards.

Funny thing is, when I went to put his towel and trunks in the wash - guess what rolled out of his towel? You got it - his pants! Grin

tinkhasboughtoutalltheshops · 28/09/2010 17:05

chefswife · 28/09/2010 17:09

Moose Funny pants story.

Tea A little Envy at your upcoming trip.

Ok, not that I'm trying to top the crazy spider competition, Wink but we have spiders that jumps at you. The one's I've seen are teeny, but I have looked at them online and they can jump up to 50 times there body length! Even the little ones, you can sense them looking at you, planning a course of attack. I use to be very squeemish around them but now its just zero tolerance policy regarding insects in my home. It spells most definitely death. That makes me sound cold but man, when its hot outside, its hard to sit in the garden cause they fall out of the trees and I hate that. Creepy. lol

missjackson · 28/09/2010 18:17

Hundreds of spiders here - we do live in a barn though. They don't seem to respect the fact that it's supposed to be a house these days. Am mostly okay with them unless they are huge. Then scream for OH.

tea minehead sounds fab - would come along too but I think a 2 week old would put a damper on the holiday spirit Hmm - but come on guys, perfect spot for a thread meet up, no? Well, if not this time, we should do it another time. I heard they are supposed to be really good fun - or maybe that was centreparcs?

Night of hell, 2 hours awake from 4am, and then LB DS wouldn't sleep at lunchtime with me so I had to walk him in the buggy. OH was away last night, but finally got back at 2pm to tag in, and I slept from 3-6pm! Just sitting in bed now with cup of tea and a custard donut Grin.

120 · 28/09/2010 19:42

Tea, fab news on the holiday! We can't sort anything until we know if we can sell the house so v v jealous.

moose, could your spider be this one? Love the pants story too!

Dog it must get really confusing in the middle of the night to work out whom to pick up and how. Glad your first day alone was going to plan.

MJ sorry about your night of hell. Am loving the LB DS. Have many moments like that. Mine has a current favourite trick of using my hair as a hold to climb up my back and onto my shoulders whenever I sit down, and then tantrumming when I say no. Have finally given in and bought him some Brio. He is in absolute heaven.

Off to make more strawberry jam, would you believe it. Have given all the jars away (HZ, yours is safe on the shelf! and we have a babysitter for the evening you suggested. yay!).

Right. Dinner. Been a very long day at work.

My goodness. I know I bitch and bitch about not being mobile, but now that I have had the car everyday for a week, and we've done errands and met for various playdates everyday, I'm f*&^%$#king knackered. Went swimming this morning and it was unusually packed. Its called Leisure/Lessons/Little Ones Session and rarely are there many little ones, but today, the pool toys were slim picking. DD got a hold of two balls and that was it. Like she instinctively knew there wasn't much to go around. She is becoming a very good little swimmer and will jump into the pool by herself, at me of course, but no hand holding. So daring. The we went off to ToyRUs and bought a BabyBjorn potty and then downtown to meet DH for lunch at a fab little proper Mexican place. Then home and now I'm heading for a nap and hope DD will go back to sleep... she fell asleep in the car in the last 5 minutes. Argh.

moosemama · 29/09/2010 09:46

Morning

120, nope the legs are too thin and the body too long on that one. Honestly, I looked at pictures of british spiders online until my flesh started to crawl yesterday and saw nothing like it. We had a rainstorm overnight and its gone, just a damaged web left. Am now worrying about where it might have gone. Blush

Chef, we have jumpers too, it was one of those little buggers that sank its fangs into dh's thumb. He's never been scared of spiders, but he's really cautious about them now - always the jar/glass and piece of card method, whereas before he always just picked them up in his hand.

Dd has woken with a stinking cold this morning, all snot and running eyes - lovely.

I was in bed by 8.30 last night, just couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Unfortunately all three of mine woke twice in the night so what with six disruptions in total, I am still knackered.

Had an impromptu meeting with ds1's teacher after school yesterday and she took me into his classroom to show me all the SISS recommendations they have implemented so far. She also told me he is going to be having a session every Friday morning with an occupational therapist who is going to work on his coordination skills in the hope of improving his fine motor and in particular handwriting skills. So its all good there.

Unfortunately he has had another couple of strange turns. Last night his brother came down to tell us ds1 had just frozen while he was on the computer, he was playing the game, then he just stopped and stared into space. Ds1 also told me that he had a weird experience in the playground yesterday, he was walking across the playground, talking to his best friend when he just suddenly stopped, froze on the spot and stared into space. He said it was like the world went blurry and far away, he couldn't see - everything was just indistinct blurriness and he couldn't hear properly either. Sounds like he was sort of semi-conscious. What with that and his 'falling asleep' in numeracy last week and the whole 'window' episode I witnessed a couple of weeks back we are booking him into the GPs asap. Am really praying its not what I'm afraid of it being as both my nephew and MIL have absence epilepsy. Sad

Dd is back at the fracture clinic tomorrow afternoon, so dh has the afternoon booked off. Am going to try and get him in to the GPs then, but only is we can see one of the two decent doctors.

OMG dd just burst into tears when Pippin got left on the bus! She was sobbing, saying "Pippin, Pippin, no, no, no". I remember the boys getting very worried about Pippin's fate a few times when they were small as well. All is well now - Auntie Mabel has got her back - that women has to be the world's worst dog owner - she's forever losing that dog! Grin

tinkhasboughtoutalltheshops · 29/09/2010 09:50

mm - poor ds

ugg @ spiders and jumping ones [shcok]

moosemama · 29/09/2010 11:40

Thanks Tink. Have just spoken with the GP. She wants him in asap and they are going to refer him to a neurologist to get properly checked out.

I was quite shaken after the phonecall really. I thought they'd just say something like - its probably nothing, but bring him in and we'll check him over - but she was adamant they need to see him and get him referred asap. Mind you, the first appointment they could offer was 12.00 tomorrow. Hmm I asked if they could do a different time this week as I can't get there without dh or Mum and she said no its the only appointment left and you need to get him to it - you will have to get a taxi - great, with a poorly toddler with her arm in a cast, a huge flipping carseat I will then have to carry and an 8 year old with ASD who is a bit like herding cats at the best of times. I think that made me worry even more, because she wouldn't book an appointment for next week, she insisted they see him asap. Sad

Looks like we are spending most of the day at medical appointments tomorrow - again!

120 · 29/09/2010 12:40

Oh moosey. Between that and the spider, I just don't know what to say! You lead an extremely eventful life!

The only event I'm waiting for (other than the ruddy jam to set) is for someone to come and buy my lovely flat! The estate agents have said the viewings are increasing now and there have only been good comments about the property. I think she was implying that up to now they didn't really have serious viewers, as a couple of the feedback sessions have been based around couples going off to chat with mortgage brokers. We shall see, fingers crossed!

By the way, if anyone is thinking of making strawberry jam, I can recommend using the little Evie strawbs that are now around £1.50 a punnet. That means £2 per jar of jam, once you've added heat and sugar, so not too bad, especially if you can get them to flog them to you cheaper! Very tasty though, we've all gone jam mad at this end. Not so good for arse reduction, however! And there is me considering making the great british bake off scones (did anyone else watch it - wasn't it fab?!)

just a quick-un re blackberries - don't think they make good jam because of the hard bits in the middle. Bramble jelly is probably the best you can do with them but I don't really like it! You could freeze them on baking trays, then tip into a bag once solid. Then just throw some in everytime you make and apple pie or crumble..
