Hello all !! i am back from hols - had a lovely time although dd didn't really take to the travel cot they provided so had a bit disrupted sleep and she just would not sleep during the day unless in the car but it was lvoely tobe away and for dh to spend lots of time with her. She's started to walk when we hold her hands which is really cute and exciting although she still finds crawling far too frustrating so maybe she won't ?!

Have caught up on all the goings ons. Sorry to hear about the bad sleeping but pleased to hear about all the developments !

An update on the damn changing bag - I sent it off just before going away and asked for a new one and there is a parcel waiting for me at the post office so fingers crossed they haven't just sent the old broken one back ! The collection bit closes at 1.30 though and dd is asleep so hopiung she wakes soon so I can get down there !

My next obssession is.... dd hated the light weight buggy we bought so we are going to sell it so I am on the lookout for a better light weight buggy. Anyone any suggestions ??

pjsmum · 10/10/2005 14:25

Hi all, we have crawling now, blimey thats hard work! DD is all over the place. Its great to see her on the move but not so great as she is collecting up all the rubbish off the floors that i 'couldn't' see!! Hazelnut can't help on the buggy decision. We didn't have much choice when we brought ours. On holiday in Shetland and lets say the one shop that had any only had 2 so we've got a Maclaren Vogue which is great but a model from last year i think.

fruitful · 10/10/2005 19:30

I've just bathed ds for the first time ever. Can't believe that! . Bathtime is dh's job and normally if he can't be home in time I just skip ds's bath. But recently he's started to love bathtimes so I gave him a bath tonight. As I put him in the water I realised I'd never done it before. And, now I think of it, I've never washed dd's hair either - she is 3.5. I'm in trouble if dh ever goes away for a week, aren't I?

Ds has a tooth, looks very cute.

And a question for you all; he is now sitting unaided for about a minute before losing balance. How long does that stage last for - before it clicks and they can pretty much sit properly? I can't remember with dd.

I've forgotten so much of what happened with dd. I was looking at ds earlier on, and thinking "I'm probably going to forget this". Weird.

Nik72 · 10/10/2005 19:38

Dd did the weeble-wobble sitting/tipping over thing for 2 or 3 weeks I think then just suddenly started sitting unsupported. She seems much happier for it too, must be more fun than being stuck on your back I suppose! Teeth here too but no crawling yet, though she's trying hard!

Welcome back Hazellnut, glad you had a good holiday.

glad you had a great night tipex - fingers crossed ......

We have those things in the plug holes - that's all I've done though. DH apparently put his mum's car keys in the electric socket when about 3 and almost fried himself so we thought these were a must !!

And guess what ..... drum roll...... it was a new bag at the post office - exchanged no quibble !! hurrah !! Oh dear... I REALLY do need to get a life !!

Angeliz · 11/10/2005 21:33

hello all
Have just been flicking through to see what all the munchkins are up to. Tipex, Amelia is also going through a realy cligy stage, she has always been a cuddly wee girl but i can't leave her for a minute lately. Especially if she sees me walk out of a room. Seperation axiety?
She got her first tooth on Saturday, can't see it but can feel it, it's like a little razor.

Sleepwise she is not doing great lately either. Up at 4am last night and would not go back off so i'm off to bed soon.
Reading through this thread, there seems to be a theme actually lately of sleepless nights and teeth so lets all hope they are all settled again soon!

She does love her food too, i made a freezer full of stuff yesterday as dp took both the girls to the beach. I was nervous about him taking them both but it was heaven to get an hnour to myself, even if all i did was cook! She had lamb and red lentils and loves it. (good job as she has about another 10 pots frozen!)
Hope you're all doing well and wish

Angeliz · 11/10/2005 21:33

clingy stage i mean, lots of typos as my fingers are stiff!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 11/10/2005 23:12

hello all!
I think we;'re about to get a tooth.... had some bleeding from gum today and a little line there!
Linus has been really grumpy for the past few days, nappy rash, snotty..... here's hoping it'll come through and i'll have happy linus back again!

here's my latest Linus thread

roosmum · 12/10/2005 21:43

hello mummies!

at no risk of changing the subject here...roo also totally snotty & we think a top tooth is maybe on the way. no chance whatever of de-snotting him either, he goes nuts if you go anywhere near it - result, he looks like a right uncared-for scruffbag atm!
but is sleeping ok just now tho (she says nervously...) would LOVE it to continue, esp as i've had a miserable cold, ugh. think he might be wearing himself out with all the crawling, now going from one room to another without a look behind at me mostly, no separation anxiety here (humph...)! brave little roo!
starlover - linus reminds me of roo in his beach photo, do you get the feeling now that they're starting to look more like little boys than baby boys sometimes?? they're growing up SO fast huh?!
hazellnut - glad you got your new bag, & a buggy puzzle, excellent! what are you using atm, & what was the buggy that dd doesn't like?? & how much wd you spend on a new one?? need more detail before we can suggest another??
here's hoping for all-night-sleeping babes for all!

Hazellnut · 13/10/2005 08:34

Hi Roosmum - was thinking we hadn't heard from you for a while and wheres Gossifer ??

Right - my buggy brief. I currently have a M&P Pliko pramette, used in buggy mode which is great but quite bulky. We also have a Maclaren Triumph which is the one that dd doesn't seem to like. Basically we need something for the few times we use public transport, if we're going away and need more room in the car etc etc. Price wise, am fairly flexible. Was having a search last night and am thinking either M&P Pulse (which I would have got instead of the triumph but thought the handles were a bit high as I am a midget) or the Jane rocket.... or the Maclaren Quest.... I really like the QUinny Zapp but DH thinks its ugly and my sensible side tells me its not the most practical as it doesn't recline.... I think if we bought one of the others it could replace the pliko as an everyday buggy rather than just an additional one and save the pliko for future bub(s) as it has a pram mode.... hmmm decisions decisions (am a bit concerned I am going to turn into a buggy-aholic...

Tipex - Just realised you asked where to get the plug widgets from - I got ours from Blooming Marvellous as were in a shop and saw them so thought we may as well get them ! SO you could get them on line ?!

Blondeinlondon · 13/10/2005 08:43

Hazellnut - what about the triumph doesn't dd like? I have a Quest and find it v good. Brakes are a bit difficult but it is nice and light.

Can anyone help me with routines? DS is fine with bedtime but I can't seem to get any daytime naps sorted.

Also is anyone doing 3 meals a day yet? I am having trouble fitting in just the two

Nik72 · 13/10/2005 09:44

I've got a quinney zapp and it's great about town but you can't fold it down one handed so it's a bit of a b*gger to use on public transport.

Blonde, we barely get 3 meals into dd, she's not a big eater at all. She doesn't look like she's fading away so am not too worried but other people's babies just wolf down their grub in comparison.

Decided to be ruthless mummy last night as all the night waking was getting a bit much so let her cry it out. Ugh, was a bit traumatic but she did go back to sleep after an hour and slept through to 7.30 but wouldn't want to do it too many times. Was lying sweating listening to her sobbing (DH snoring gently...) not knowing if I was doing the right thing or not....

Hazellnut · 13/10/2005 10:03

Aww Nik- we've had to do it before and it breaks your heart doesn't it !? Thankfully we've only had to do it once or twice and then dd seems to pick up on the idea.

Hmm.. daytime routines..... what are they ??! I just tend to wait till dd is yawning/rubbing eyes and then try and coax her to sleep ! She is sleeping really really well in the day over the last two days which can only mean teeth are on their way cos she won't normally sleep during the day but when teething sleeps for england !

What dd doens't like about the Triumph.. erm .. not sure really, she always looks really slumped in it. The Quest looks a bit more structured IYSWIM. Nik, does your dd sleep in the zapp at all ? As dd won't sleep in the triumph which will recline slightly but will sleep in the back pack makes me think the whole recline/sleep thing doesn't matter ! as for not folding - I don't get public transport that often and when I do its usually trains so I just need one thats light enough to pick up with dd in it rather than fold one handed.

Right am meant to be getting the ironing done before dd wakes up and we go to the gym (boooo). We have dd's 8 month check this afternoon (although she is almost 9 months !!). Am looking forward to seeing what she weighs as I haven't had her weighed for almost 2 months !

Hazellnut · 13/10/2005 10:06

Blonde - we DO get in three meals a day plus snacks but then dd is a bit of a pig and will probably end up as the fattest child in her class. My parents tell everyone they are scared to stand still around them in case she eats them... hmmm... Guess she is making up for being starved in the womb !!

oops thats 3 meals not 6 !!

Right ironing....

gossifer · 13/10/2005 11:08

hello everybody!
i've not been on for so long and its all been going on!
starlover, tipex, hazelnut, roosmum, blondeinlondon, nik72, fruitful, pjsmum, angeliz, jolly4, wombat! hello to all and the gorgeous ones, can you believe how far we have come?
well, i'm back at work from home 2 days a week (last 6 weeks) which has been really hard, hence lack of MN! trying to do 16 hours and look after leon,
i have been settling him into a lovely nursery round the corner very slowly the last 2 weeks, how hard is it to leave them!!!!!
he has 2 bottom teeth and three all coming through together on the top at the mo, so big colds, hard nights and lots of cuddles and calpol, ended up taking him to A&E on saturday night he was in soooo much pain, more so we knew it was his teeth and not something else, they gave us baby nurofen and made us feel ok for being there!
leon is standing and thats all he wants to do, in his cot and everywhere! moving around pieces of furniture and learning to get up and down, with lots of bumps on the way!
hazellnut, we have a quest which almost fully reclines and leon loves it, we're constantly on buses and in the car & its great to put up and down and very light to carry, you can fit quite a lot in the basket underneath too!! i orignially bought it for flying but have ended up using it all the time

i'm 32 by the way!

leon has 3 meals a day when he's not teething, and then its his weetabix for brekky and then milk milkmilk!! only prob we have is that he wants to feed himself, which is fine with pasta and bread and other fingerfoods, but not anything sloppy!!!!

anyways, hope you all have a good day

gossifer

pjsmum · 13/10/2005 11:49

Hi, Blonde- Dd gets three meals a day, three 9oz bottles and snacks. She is a bit of a porker, but then so are her parents! We don't have routine as such in the day but if we are home then when she's yawning, rubbingeyes etc i put her in her cot, draw curtains. She moans for maybe 10 mins then she falls asleep. It doesn't always work, god forbid if i puther down and she's not quite tired enough the whole street hears! Nik its horrible when you have to be ruthless, been there a few times

Nik72 · 13/10/2005 11:55

Thanks for the words of support, fellow ruthless mums! , always good to know you're not in it alone.

Gossifer, sorry to hear about the trip to A&E but glad all was Ok!

Dd will sleep int he Zapp if she's tired enough, the harness is very supportive.

Hazellnut · 13/10/2005 15:09

Sorry to hear about the horrid horrid teething....

Havve just got back from dd's 8 month check and am so excited I just have to tell you that she is now on the 25 centile for weight, height and head !!! The HV remembered her when she was born and we were saying what a difference 8 months makes when she was born below the 0.4 centile...
I phoned dh to tell him and I got all emotional - what a big girls blouse I am !!!

Anyway.... still undecided on the buggy - my heart says Zapp and my head says quest (or similar). MIL is here this weekend to babysit on saturday night so I might use 'going to john lewis to get us all out of the house' as an excuse to try them all and hope dh falls in love with the zapp !! Anyone want a lovely triumph by the way ? Hardly used, going cheap - tee hee !!

hi all... i go away for one night and miss out on all this news!

we fit 3 meals a day in! My life wouldn't be worth living if I didn't!!!!

We do:
6.45 (ish)- milk (6oz)
9am- porridge
10.30- milk (60z)
1pm- Lunch (2 courses)
3pm- milk (6oz)
5pm- dinner (2 courses)
6.45/7ish- milk (6oz)

sooooooooooo yes, he is a little gannet! I feel like all I do is feed him. Strangely enough he isn't fat though! He is on the 98th centile for height and the 75th for weight... so tall and slimmish!

Not sure about pushchair tbh... although i have to say i really don't like the zapp!!! No way Linus would sleep in something that didn't recline.

We have the I'coo platon which is VERY heavy, so crap for public transport, but really lovely for round the shops and going on walks. And I can have Linus facing me in it too.
We also have a cosatto lunar for nipping in ad out of places... very light, bog standard buggy tbh but wouldn't want to use it as main pushchair.

Still no teeth here... very snotty baby though. He's been like this for about 3 weeks now, can't seem to shift it. has now developed a horrible cough so think I may have to take him to the doctors!

Anyway good to hear from you all... i wondered where you;d been gossifer!

roosmum · 13/10/2005 22:04

hi all...esp hi gossifer, nice to have you back!
16 hour day - with a baby around as well -sounds like hard work, you're tougher than me for sure!

& that's fab news hazellnut! enjoy the feeling

snap nik, we also have a zapp & (sorry starlover!) think it's great, tho for walking i wd def use our 3-wheeler, for comfort, basket etc. can't beat it for nipping around town & roo has often fallen asleep in it (he has also fallen asleep mid-meal in his highchair tho too...?!). lol at dd falling asleep in a backpack, random kids!
i can carry him in the zapp in baby-unfriendly places, such as shops with a few steps - eg next to get to the kids clothes what's that all about?! no way could i do that with the big buggy.
tho i generally don't like maclarens (esp triumph, seems v flimsy to me), if budget isn't a problem then the ryder is nice. not super light tho, but a friend just got one to replace her heavy M&P pram & i do like it. like the idea of a jane rocket, don't think i've ever seen one (partly why i don't like mac, ubiquitous), so that would be cool & you know it'll be well made i guess.
aria?? another friend has this, it's her only buggy & it suits her. it's light & fairly priced?
ummm, dunno what else to suggest...
part of what i like abt zapp is the sitting height for roo, triumph seems really low & babies do look kind of slumped in them i think (know a few people that have them). maybe dd doesn't like being low - would explain why she's ok with backpack???
dh bought me the zapp as a surprise, after making out that i wasn't allowed to get one, which was v sweet...it just arrived one day, fab & lovely thing to do i thought.

hmm, i seem to have got far too involved in buggy hunt (knew i would!) , tipex don't get me started, for my own sake!! (ps like the loola a lot, even tho i have a 3 wheel fetish!)
