New Fred. Apologies for dullness of title - we need curly for witticisms.

OP posts:

SilverSky · 06/11/2010 21:25

alpy man you are crayzeeeeeee! Good luck and may your wombular be bearing fruit in about 9 months!

Fanks for advice. I am indeed milk machine. The poo has turned yellow brown and is very liquidy. He (the baybee - must think of nn) was awake last night from 1230 til about 3am, then again about 5 for 30mins and then woke up again about 8. Today he has been feedin and cat napping with a massive sleep from 5 til gone 8. I changed and fed him and he has gone back to sleep right away and let me put him back in his Moses whereas normally its a case of wanting to be held. He fell asleep feeding so I removed him and put him to bed expecting grumbling.

Could this new sleep thing be cos of the milk coming in? Or perhaps he is getting used to life at home? Plz to share thoughts?

CurlyCasper · 07/11/2010 09:21

silver he's a wee stunner! well done. They are pretty good at going to sleep anywhere when that young, so make the most of it. He might not go down for long, but at least he'll go down. Just make sure you get enough sleep too. But you are probably still running on adrenaline and blissful happiness at the mo. Grin

alpie you are bonkers. A baybee birthday at each end of summer, perhaps?

Much better night here. Only one set of hysterics in the dark. And making her go back to sleep until she finally woke up happy seems to have done the trick. It meant an hour in bed with me. But we got up at 8, so I am happy!

CurlyCasper · 07/11/2010 09:27

oh, and Envy at the Scottish contrabane ap. with the exception of the Lorne sausage
You should make your own tattie scones - easy and delish! (not to mention greasy and fatteningSad)

AlpinePony · 07/11/2010 12:31

curly well I'd like a nice sized family and I've got nothing holding me back, if TTC proves troublesome again I'd like to get started asap - if I fall quickly (ha!) then I'm happy with having them close together. Actually I'd rather have them close together - but who knows how it's all going to go?

He went down last night at 8:30 and slept through until 7:30! Grin Had his 3:30am grumble but was coaxed back to sleep.

Really? Can make own tattie scones? I daren't. jb would have me making them daily. :(

silver Sounds OK to me, lots of sleeping for the first few weeks and as curly says, you're so full of adrenaline it's all good. He'll let you know soon enough if he wants grub.

Am back from stables, madame is full of beans and there was lots of squeaking from me as it was a buckaroo day.

Cosmosis · 07/11/2010 16:47

Silv sounds like a great start to me :) Artie was great at sleeping in his basket for the first 3 weeks or so, and then it all went a bit wrong, but we're getting it back on track again hopefully. Just make sure you are sleeping in the day as well, it really makes a difference.

We went walking today, had a lovely day.

Alpie I was thinking of you while we were out and wondering when you were going to ttc again - reason being I was thinking it must be about a year since the big load of blue lines we had. Think we'll be ttc in the summer. Good luck anyway!

SilverSky · 07/11/2010 21:17

Managed our first outing today! To MILs for Sunday lunch. Was like Mission Impossible as we took the dawg too and the Moses basket. The change bag was stuffed for every eventuality - dirty bums and dirty clothes.

The little guys ermmmmm balls seem really red so have put Sudocrem on and it's settled them back to pink again. Any ideas as to why irritated?

Now that I have major comedy boobge again and am wearing pads inside a cami top when do you think would be a good time to go bra shopping ? bearing in mind I don't want to ruin the merchandise! How long before boobs settle or is this it? Even the Mw in the hossie said "you will need a very good bra to support 'those'"!!

Deffo keeping on top of th sleeping in the basket routine which is not to say he doesn't get cuddles. I just want to avoid where poss having a baybee that has to be held in order to sleep. That's the theory.

honeyMummy you are soooooooooo gonna have a baybee this week! Huzzah!

SilverSky · 08/11/2010 03:07

Well tonight has seen it all go tits up literally. Will he settle in his basket no. He just screams and screams. He will feed but falls alseep on the boob. As soon as put in basket he grizzled then screams. A lot and loudly. He has clean bum and have burped him (tho not get much results). I have no idea what could be wrong. He is tired and fighting it. As we all are. He is now onthe bed with me. He looks v v sleepy but is laying here looking sleepy.

I am BEYOND

AlpinePony · 08/11/2010 07:28

cossie I'm not looking forward to that whole pregnancy jig all over again - but the end result is, as you know, 100% worth it. Grin Anyway - it'll be a chance to test our theory! Wink

silv Probably just a temporary sensitive skin thing. That's exactly what we did - popped a bit of sudocreme/burt's bees nappy rash cream on - then by the time he was dried after his next bath it'd all disappeared. We don't use detergent every wash as that could irritate baby skin. They do say fresh air is the best - so put down a towel and let him flash the world? Wink As for screaming babs, sometimes the only thing which will work for us is holding him to sleep and I can't feel bad about that - he's only little. But this is such a small percentage, say once every 3 days out of however many sleeps. As for screaming - I think ours kicked in at around a week and I think (in retrospect) it was trapped wind. All I can say is wind, wind and then wind again. Confused It's horrible not being able to get to the root of the problem.

Cosmosis · 08/11/2010 09:09

silv metanium is excellent for when they go a bit pinky in the nappy area.

yy to what alpie says about the trapped wind - it can take 15-20 mins to get the wind up. one way we have found works is putting them on your lap face down and slapping them on the back, then bringing them back to upright.

SilverSky · 08/11/2010 10:11

HI did the tiger in a tree hold. I managed one burp but then he still wouldn't settle. He wanted the boob so I fed him again and let him fall asleep. Left it a few mins til he was on a one way train to sleepville and then put him to bed. This was about 330. He woke again about 630 and got HI to change his bum I fed him and we all went back to bed and woke up about 930am.

What a night eh??

I am still experiencing pains in my abdomen. Sharp ones. Is this all part of the healing process?

Cosmosis · 08/11/2010 10:27

silv are they all the time, or just when feeding? If just when feeding then probably afterpains, but I'd mention them to MW / HV just to be sure.

What you are describing re sleep is totally normal, most babies do not have the ability to go to sleep when tired, they need to be coaxed into it with things like feeding, rocking, whitenoise, car drives, pram trips, slings etc etc. It's a developmental thing they will learn honest! (don't ask me when though, we're still trying with Artie!)

Backinthebox · 08/11/2010 13:21

Just diving in quickly. Been away for 3 days and lo! more babies! I should go away whenever anyone is wanting to lay one! Congrats to Silver and Swits. Got to go now, because my little giants are calling!

CUNextTuesday · 08/11/2010 16:13

We are on our third good nap of the day. Beautiful. Hopefully he'll have a less restless night tonight as a result. He's great on the first stretch to the feed at 11 then good again till around 3.30, but then wakes every hour for a five to ten minute gurn before nodding back off. Course then I'm wide awake. I think this means he's nearly ready for his own room...

SilverSky · 08/11/2010 16:36

Well we have had one very good nap 1pm and he is still snoozing. HI reckons we're in for it tonight now and he won't sleep. We'll see.

We were hoping to go to the shops this arvo but baybee asleep and I am expecting him to wake up soon for bum change and food so decided to wait if out. Whether this is the right or wrong thing to do I ain really sure. Am I right to assume the older they get and the more they feed the longer naps they will take?We are now wondering if he is ok cos he has never slept this long and prob should have had a feed a couple of hours ago. Do we leave him or wake him up?

All I know is that I am shattered and I have not had any catch up myself. Got headache as a result.

Pains are mainly when feeding but do also occur when not.

Cosmosis · 08/11/2010 16:58

YOU SHOULD BE ASLEEP!!!!

I don't think it at all follows that you'll have a bad night though, I don't think it works like that at all for ones so tiny.

Re as they get older and napping, general rule is small babies need a nap after about 90 mins of awakeness - Artie certainly fits in with this, that's when he starts yawning. Of course, actually getting him to have a nap is another matter entirely.....

CUNextTuesday · 08/11/2010 17:38

In fact the better they nap the better their night sleep because they aren't overtired and thus restless. Mine used to sleep for 5 hour stretches at night when he was fresh out - i think if he wants food he'll ask you firmly for it! And i agree with Cos, get your sleeps in when you can!

CurlyCasper · 08/11/2010 17:58

I can vouch for that cunty. Squeaks returned to daytime napping properly yesterday, and slept through overnight (9pm to 5am, then an hour in with me). And she's got her appetite back. [relief]

Left her with SFF from 9am to 4.30pm today. They did not kill each other Grin

CUNextTuesday · 08/11/2010 18:50

It's a beautiful thing :-)

AlpinePony · 09/11/2010 07:17

3 nights in a row for 8:30 - 7! :) Thanks cunty for giving me the confidence to let me let him greet for a moment. I woke up at 6:30 this morning and he was playing with his toys but letting mummy sleep.

OK... haz had terrible thoughts about poo. Jailbait reckons because I had an epidural I will have shit myself in the operating theatre. What do you think? Skater/VAG Did you poo yourselves?

PollyPoo · 09/11/2010 10:46

Good news on the sleeping front laydeez. I must admit we got Boo into a routine very early on, which seemed a bit harsh at the time and was bloody hard work, but it has paid dividends. I'm also a fan of controlled crying.

When is moo going to get a move on and vacate the deli? Talk about drag it out.... Wink

Cosmosis · 09/11/2010 11:29

alpie I'm fairly sure I pooed myself as I had the horrific shits all through the morning of labour, I don't give a toss, they've seen it all before!

We are having moderate sucess with getting artie to go down of an evening, but it all goes a bit to pot after feeds in the night. We'll get there.

Backinthebox · 09/11/2010 11:34

Phew! Back in the land of internet - have been Oop North for a few days and t'internet is powered by hamsters in a wheel up there. Also would help if my laptop worked. I dropped it and broke the screen, and it seems a bit much to haul a desktop around just so I can chat with you lovely ladies! So sorry if I have missed something momentous. (Obviously I noticed Silver and Swit sneaking into the Spa. Moo obviously likes the Deli too much to make the move - has anyone told her the jacuzzi here is filled with champagne and gin comes out of the taps?)

DS has a cold. It is The End Of The World. Previously he has been a good little boy, but the last 2 nights have been a trial. This morning I had to wake everyone up though - OH, DS and DD! All sleeping like babies.

I've decided I need names for my children, so DD will henceforth be known as FA for Fiery Angel and DS will be LG for Little Giant. OH will still be OH, because he is. Obviously these are not the names I yell down the field when it's teatime, but there you go.

Silver listen to Aunty Boxy for a bit, will you? Babies have no pattern at all to start with, and you have just been through the most physically demanding thing you will ever do. So when your baby is sleeping, don't fret about whether he has been asleep for too long - get some kip yourself! Get OH to keep an eye on both of you, and if baby wakes up before you do get him to take him to look at trees or something to keep him occupied for a little bit longer for you to sleep. When I had FA I had an EMCS and had no sleep in what felt like forever. I had to jump up when I got home and get packing to move house. I eventually had to be rescued from myself by Clucky and another good friend of mine. This time round I was told to sit in bed and do nothing but cuddle baby, read books, sleep and eat for at least a week, even though I had had a very quick and easy birth and was not tired at all. It was the best advice ever (and helped by the fact that my IM was checking up on me every day to make sure I hadn't tried to sneak out!) It was a lovely blissful time, and I felt ready to get back to the real world after suspending my participation in it for a little while. What are you going shopping for? You should be making the most of Tesco and Mothercare online for day to day stuff, and you don't need anything at all for yourself if you are resting up.

Ski don't worry about poo. Everyone poos - where does all the food go otherwise? Who cares if you pooed in the theatre? It's not like you'll have been the first, or last.

Other news - I don't seem to be able to leave the sofa as LG is after growing out of all the clothes we have - at 9 weeks he is looking very comfortable in his 3-6 month old stuff - and needs feeding All The Time, the fields are getting rather squidgy now, and it is dark when OH gets home. But I am hankering after another horse. I can't stop myself! I know I have the racehorse and the shitland, but the racehorse is just nice and bland and a bit boring (except for when he is going fast!) and the shitland will be an ex-shitland if she doesn't stop escaping, paddling her paddock into slop, and headbutting FA when she tries to lead her anywhere. FA still seems to love her, but maybe she gets this loving unsuitable horses from her mother, eh? Hmm

OkieCokie · 09/11/2010 13:46

Alps I did a poo and had an epidural. They said I had 3 chances to push him out (with the help of forceps) and I think the sheer pushing pushed the poo out too. Nice. I was not aware until about 3 days later when the midwife asked if I had "opened my bowels yet" and I said no and could not remember the last time I had and he said in a blasé way that I did when I gave birth as if he was saying flippantly that he had roast chicken for Sunday lunch.

I held a real week old baby yesterday (NCT lot are dropping baybees left right and centre). Apparently holding a baby helps to bring on labour, clearly that hasn't worked.

PollyPoo · 09/11/2010 14:18

Alps I didn't have an epi, but I did poo during labour. I think every time I had a contraction and was pushing, a little bit of poo came out. Nice! Tbh I really did not care in the slightest although it did cross my mind that having the midwife wipe me after each push was a bit weird. Grin

AlpinePony · 09/11/2010 14:58

Oh. Maybe that's why I didn't go in to labour... hadn't held a baby for 15 years! Wink

So basially you all reckon I had a good old poo? :( This would make sense. Poo Tuesday morning, straight in to hospital - didn't poo until Sunday. Nobody goes that long without a poo do they?
