Hope this works for everyone - I'm assuming Summer won't give birth in the next few hours!! x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EffiePerine · 13/08/2010 17:40

Veggie: I think it's one of those pan-European names. Xavi is sweet. I love it pronounced with a Frenxh accent.

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 17:41

Oops, sorry Spot, I missed your longlist!

Of those I particularly like

William (that name never seems to tarnish, somehow)
Edward
Noah

though Kit is a nice shortening of Christopher I must say.

Three possibly consecutive posts! But I thumb my nose at three posts, I give three posts a Gallic shrug!

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 17:44

Otto is a totally brilliant name imo. And oh bugger, I forgot Horatio, which I absolutely adore. But even I would have been faintly shamefaced about Octavia and Otto, or even Octavia and Horatio Grin I did try for Horatia for DD2 but I knew it was futile.

Rubena · 13/08/2010 17:45

Spot...... clearly Benjamin and Samuel!(Samuel would have been dc2's name if a boy.

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 17:46

Oh, and that Kenwood ad, Effie - '8 out of 10 mumsnetters recommend weaning with Kenwood'? Yeah, and 8 out of 10 cats prefer Weetabix. Don't insult my intelligence, ad people!

Rubena · 13/08/2010 17:47

Oh and I like BabyVaggie2's name which is also dh's middle name Grin

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 17:50

I do actually like DP's name which he would not thank me for revealing is Alistair. Though I think it's better if you are Scottish, which he isn't by gene pool, though he was born in Edinburgh.

EffiePerine · 13/08/2010 17:52

Veggie: you are right, it's a basque name. I think of it as a traditional catholic name, a bit like Francis (which I also like).

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 17:55
spotofcheerfulness · 13/08/2010 18:36

I was born and bred in Edinburgh, lady, but apparently that doesn't make me Scottish enough to warrant calling my son a scottie name

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 18:42

Says who, Spot? Me? Octavia isn't Roman OR an eighth child (yawn) but it didn't stop me. However, I think I would be far less likely to give a child of mine a Scottish, Welsh or Irish name than I would, say, an Italian or French name. I don't know why.

spotofcheerfulness · 13/08/2010 18:43

says DP Hmm

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 18:50

I think if he's going to be strict about the 'culturally relevant' argument, the mother being born and brought up there does cut it. If DP had wanted to give a Scottish flavour to our kids' names (born there and lived there until he was 10) I think he would have had grounds to do so, even though I may not have agreed. His sister has, actually, with her kids (Angus, Flora etc)

EffiePerine · 13/08/2010 18:59

I am too tired. I have dropped the dinner (now in the bin), a glass of wine and the radio. I am not convinced I should bathe the kids tonight...

Veggiemummy · 13/08/2010 19:26

Were they all on a tray Eff or dropped on 3 separate occasions. I think anything sounds good with a French accent. I have to admit the reason Xavi was binned even though we both liked was because of how it would be pronounced in Australia, I couldn't bare hearing, 'Exaavee that's an unusual name larve'. Shortening DS2 to Jordi with an i was a way of kind of having a little European name for him, we love that the Dutch call him 'yordi'.

That's cool that your DH has the same middle name pubes, I have to admit I wasn't that fussed on it but I love it now he really suits it and he kind of defines his name IYKWIM.

Last you made me giggle, as if you would ever let DP hav say in the DD's names!!!

Veggiemummy · 13/08/2010 19:28

Sorry that should be Lady not last.

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 19:38

No, no, Veg, DP is not one to be steamrollered (annoyingly). Both DD and DD2tobe have three names:

DD1 - first name was joint choice, second name was totally his choice, third name was my granny's name.

DD2 - I admit first name is my 100% choice and he is not convinced but has relented, so I have had to turn over both names two and three to him, which he has now chosen and in which I have had no say and I am a bit Hmm about!

I reckon that makes me supremely reasonable and equitable!

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 19:39

Efiie, I sympathise. I am clumsy at the moment. I suggest another glass of wine.

EffiePerine · 13/08/2010 19:40

3 seperate dropping incidents. At work I dropped a phone and knocked over loads of things. Thank goodness it's the weekend!

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 19:43

I mean, I love Theodora, Christabel and Horatia as already mentioned. And DP hates all of those. You simply wouldn't believe the sheer number of names the man has vetoed.

Rubena · 13/08/2010 19:44

Effie give the bathing a big miss and pour a glass of cheerfulness for yourself.

Veggiemummy · 13/08/2010 19:54

I'm not sure about Theodora & Horatia because of the way they end, but Christobel would go so well with Octavia. I am dying to find out this gorgeous girl's names.

Well we managed to dismantle DS1's bed & move it upstairs and its now reassemble in his new room. His room is tiny up there but he will literally just sleep in there his clothes and toys will be downstairs. We've decided apart from a few hanging clothes our tall boys with clothes will stay downstairs as the washing machine is down there and I couldn't be stuffed walking up & down the stairs to put clothes away as well as get clean clothes for the several kits changes DS2 needs a day.

LadyThompson · 13/08/2010 19:56

It doesn't feel like Friday tonight. All my days are mixed up. We've got no nice food in, I am not planning on even the smallest spot of cheerfulness and there's just no beginning of the weekend sheen to proceedings for some reason. DP has been stuck in traffic for most of the day so I don't imagine he will be a ray of sunshine when he get back Grin

How's the feeding today, Rubes?

Oh, and DD, still resolutely refusing to call me Mummy, called me first Daddy then LADY over the bars of her cot this morning. Think she reads MN? And am I doing something so psychologically wrong that my first born child calls me LADY, like a random passenger on the bus? Grin

Veggiemummy · 13/08/2010 20:37

Well at least she hasn't embarked on a life of crime. I think you need to get a takeaway tonight Lady to help you with that Friday feeling.

Despite his criminal activities I have to admit to being completely besotted by DS2 at the moment he is screeching a lot less (apart from his nighttime rumblings) and has become really cuddly and kissy esp with DS1. He is so much fun to watch pretty much all the time.

TheInvisibleHand · 13/08/2010 20:51

Hooray Summer! Glad you managed to escape so quickly. Can't wait for the next intallment and confess to being slightly envious of babies asleep on top of you.

Spot - congrats on a boy!

LadyT - I am having quite a chuckle at the thought of young O calling you Lady.

Veggie - I love the thought of your DS2 with his ill gotten gains up his top - very cute.

Not much news from here, just having a lazy time with the DCs. Could get used to this...
