Hope this works for everyone - I'm assuming Summer won't give birth in the next few hours!! x

She seems happy and busy if FB is anything to go by.

And where's Turnip? I must start hassling her to pop in Grin

Did you have any visitors when you were in hospital, Summer? I suppose you weren't in long. I was very grand about it last time and only allowed one apart from DP. I feel a bit more flexible this time but as it's my second, no one will care!

SummerLightning · 17/08/2010 13:13

Just remembered is my lovely bro's birthday today as well. So a good day for a birthday.

LadyThompson · 17/08/2010 13:14

Oooh, thanks DB. I remember that well, as your DS was born the day before O. I spent the night before my section watching the Sex and the City movie in my flat in London, working myself into an absolute flippin' frenzy. By the time we got the cab to the hospital in the grey early morning I was honestly wishing I had never even thought of having a baby Grin

SummerLightning · 17/08/2010 13:16

I had my parents and ds. I also said my friend could come as she had a scan in the hospital while I was in but they wouldn't let her in as it wasn't official
visiting hours. But I like having visitors, I am not a post baby hermit type

DeidreBarlow · 17/08/2010 13:19

trace forgot to add that your accident sounded terrifyingShock. So pleased you are both okay.

Kayz seems really happy on FB...too busy to catch up with us...it would be nice to see her from time to time.

LadyThompson · 17/08/2010 13:22

Well, it's too far for my folks or DP's to come. On the other hand...I did enjoy slowly coming back to life again without having to worry about being chatty to visitors

Also, I banned visitors to the house for a whole week after I came out of hospital. I am going to review that one, but I do remember it as a lovely time for DP and I. Also, depends where we are - if we are still here, visitors are tripping over things at the best of times.

Beans33 · 17/08/2010 13:45

I went a bit loon in transition this time. Didn't seem to have it with Whizz, apart from I remember asking the midwife what it was in a let up from contractions and she told me I was in it, which was why I could ask that question!

For DD2, I decided that I had to do a poo in transition. And was sitting on the loo trying to do a big one, when the midwife came in and told me that it wasn't a poo that I was pushing out, but a baby - in fact, she said "You're not doing a poo, you're doing a baby". Bloody funny. In retrospect. Wasn't at the time as was telling DH I wanted to die! I think maybe that was second stage, actually! I'd started pushing while I was on the loo. Nice.

Summer - so glad you MIL has gone. She sounds bloody awful.

DD2 had her 8 week jabs this morning. Wow she screamed. Then went straight back to sleep. She's only just woken up now and is looking distinctly dozy as she sits on her little bouncy chair next to me. How is it possible to love such a useless, pukey little thing so much???! She's heaven!

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 17/08/2010 13:49

8 week jabs already...wow, that's gone fast. Beans,(and Rubes and Summer), I am not sure you are allowed to tell me how utterly gorgeous your new baby girls are Grin as I am drumming my fingers on my pot belly impatiently (well, more like a cauldron than a pot, really).

OH bugger, am getting nothing done today.

Beans33 · 17/08/2010 14:03

Hee hee! Lady - you know you want to faff! I am trying to decide what to do this pm. Think we might go for a walk on Tooting Common. That'll do. Get Whizz a bit of exercise so she goes to sleep tonight.

I'm going OUT tonight for dinner with my last NCT lot! 3 of us have had 2nd babies within a month of eachother. Marvellous!

DH under strict orders to be home by 7!

OP posts:
DeidreBarlow · 17/08/2010 14:04

ha ha beans that is really funnyGrin

Can't believe she is having jabs already! Its flown by.

lady I was really keen on having QT just us 3 when we had DD but with DS I was happy to have more visitors as they either occupied DD or took her out for a couple of hours, which was great.

Right I'm at work and getting nowt done...must try harder although I'm finished for the day in half an hour - yay!!

Beans33 · 17/08/2010 14:14

Bunged yet more pics on FB. There's a pic of Pru sitting in a little white jacket on blue check chair that I literally took about 15 mins ago on my phone. She is now fast asleep, so was just giving me a little sleepy grin. Too sweet! Lady - it's going to be ace when yours arrives. What actual date is it ?

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 17/08/2010 14:34

Oooh, must go and check out pics...and then I would put laptop on hig shelf but have to do some stuff on it!

It's Wed 29th Sept as we stand. My obs only does her private patients on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They are refurbing the wing, beginning that week (so annoying) so if I can get swapped to the week before if they agree that my dates are a bit out, it would be better for that reason as well, as everyone's being moved and it will probably be chaos. (Am pop eyed with rage about it and trying to get a discount - we have been warned of noise and no guarantee of an ensuite, and at that sodding price it's not on).

EffiePerine · 17/08/2010 14:56

Awwww Beans she is gorgeous! I get a bit surprised when I see blond girly babies as mine are so dark and very boylike!

Beans33 · 17/08/2010 17:06

She's got a big old widow's peak! Thanks for thinking she's lovely! All babies are really, aren't they?

Quick question - can I give her calpol at 8 weeks? I seem to remember doing it last time... She's just v grizzly and I am worried about leaving her with DH for the evening - don't want him to call me while I@m tucking into my curry!!!

OP posts:
Beans33 · 17/08/2010 17:14

first real tears. oh breaking my heart!!!

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 17/08/2010 17:54

You can give calpol for post immunisation fever, which I'm guessing she has? Says on the bottle iirc. Hope it works! Poor pudding.

waitinggirl · 17/08/2010 17:58

SL - next time your mil comes round, give me a call and i'll thwack her for you. honestly - she sounds like she gives my mentalist mil a run for her money.

re: vbac - thoughts at the mo:

  • i'd like to give it a go
  • i'd like to remain mobile and able to drive/pick madam up after the birth
  • i'm terrified of the pain of "proper" childbirth (strange, as i went through 8 hours of drug free labour before the pethidine/epidural/c-section, so i have experienced it)

c/s last time because after 8 hours of labour, and then another 8 hours of drip-fuelled epiduralised stronger contractions, i still only got to 4cm. her head, apparently, never properly engaged, so my uterus could contract to its heart's content, but with nothing to push the cervix open, she wasn't coming out. and then her heartrate went a bit mental. hence c/s.

off to see good friend with a week old baby tomorrow - i am madam-less, courtesy of the grandparents (dad and ladyfriend), so making the most of it! yay!

LadyThompson · 17/08/2010 21:54

Where IS everyone? I did some stuff in the end so can come back on.

Is it your scan in the morning, WG? Thinking of you.

Going to see a friend do stand up tomorrow night. It's somewhere quite local. I see her all too infrequently. I would rather see her on another occasion, because seeing people before or after a gig is never very relaxing, but she was in a long running tv comedy a few years ago and DP is a little overexcited as he was a big fan of it and has never met her. I have to induce him to be cool, somehow Grin

I want to buy some new on trend clothes for autumn. It's a bit hard with the whole baby thing and being a podgster, but maybe I will start with a new coat or jacket. Mmm, wonder what other basics will be good when one is in need of flattering clothing?

DeidreBarlow · 18/08/2010 08:03

beans hope DD settled...and yes you cangive calpol at 8 wks for post jabs. BTW the girls are B-E-A-utiful!!

wg Enjoyyour 'madam-free' day!

DD's birthday today and she has just eaten the biggest breakfast I have seen for 4 years! She has told me 'its because I am 4, when your 4 your big and eat lots of food'Hmm. Looks like there is hope for all fussy eaters in a few years then!!!

spotofcheerfulness · 18/08/2010 08:16

Good on you LadyT for even considering buying new clothes. Coat or jacket is a good idea, I've just cleared out my wardrobe and only left in things that fit me (maternity). The choice is paltry but I'm damned if i'm going to spend any more cash on clothes I won't be wearing again. Kiwi, we need you for fashion advice on coats and jackets that will accommodate bumps but also not be too baggy when babies are here, not date, and go with most other colours. Oh and not cost an arm and a leg. Your challenge starts now.

And Lady, enjoy tonight (and your overexcited DP). Come on, who is it??

WG best of luck with the scan. Am thinking of you.

DP is off this week but we're realising it would have been nice to go away as it just doesn't feel like a holiday staying here! Plus we're both ill, which doesn't help. Still, we've seen so many houses now we need a proper talking to. The reality is we need Kirsty and Phil to talk some proper sense into us. We can either get a quite rundown place in a great area with an odd layout and loads of stairs (with good schools) but stretch ourselves or get one that you can just walk into (also with an odd layout, such is Brighton) which is in the catchment of one good school and one less, so much more of a lottery. Also more studenty area so prob noisier. But, of course, less cash. With everything the news is saying about house prices, I feel like we shouldn't stretch ourselves (or take on a big project with a new baby) but tis v tricky. And we can't stay renting where we are as it's too expensive. Could rent somewhere cheaper but then that means another move in a year and I want to reduce the number of moves...I'm sounding like such a middle class cliche (esp about the schools), I always thought people who worried about these things were a bit sad, now that's me.

Veggie hope DS1 had a lovely birthday and SL you get some proper rest now MIL has offskied on her broomstick...

Beans33 · 18/08/2010 09:02

Morning all! I had a lovely day all sorted with a friend coming round for morning tea with her 10 month twins and she's cancelled to due Squits. Fair enough as don't want any of us to get it, but am now feeling a bit sad without something in the diary. Think we'll go for a pigeon-chasing session on the common! Lovely!

Off to inlaws for a week as of Friday, so won't be on internet for a week - apart from occasional drop-ins. Afraid I will disappear from doing personals as can never catch up - sorry in advance!

Went out for dinner with NCT lot last night. Was lovely to be out without nippers. I cycled up there and it was lovely. It was weird, though. I really like those girls, and get on brilliantly with them each individually. But when it's a group, I find it really hard. Think maybe I go a bit shy in groups, I don't know. But also feel like they all like eachother more than they like me, if you know what I mean. I am aware that I have a few hangups about that sort of thing, but did feel a bit left out at times - was a bit like being back at the horrible school I went to for a while!! They're lovely, but I felt a bit lonely sometimes. Think I need to go out with my oldest mates, who were at the lovely school I went to! Then will hopefully get my confidence back!

PS DD2 was fine! Thank you. Up at 3am (hasn't done that since week 5!) and then started squeaking at 5am, but when I went in, she was fast asleep, so I managed to ignore her on and off til 7.20. I was just soooo comfortable and warm and she wasn't screaming, so I left her.

DD1 started singing and playing at 6.45, so left her too. It was rather nice lying there with DH under the covers - sort of conscious, but cosy. He was amazing this morning, got DD1 up and dressed, then bathed and dressed DD2. Love it when he doesn't have to leave til 8.45!!! So rare! We all had breakfast together. Was bliss!

Anyway, sorry, am waffling on!

x

LadyThompson · 18/08/2010 10:05

Gosh, Beans, your DH is a bit of a star with the getting up and dressing, and still leaving the house by 8.45! That would not happen around here Grin But I am not dissing DP as he was up until 2am frantically writing an advice, up again before 7 to finish it off (and, in between, waking me up at 4 to tell me there was a strange man in bed next to me, which was of course one of his weird sleep hallucinations). I was thrilled as you can imagine Hmm

Sorry you found it slightly tricky last night. I think you need some more nights out, as you say. I bet they were all really pleased to see you.

Spot - does it matter so much about loads of stairs? House prices are set to fall, so we are told, but unless you are planning to move again quickly, things normally restore within a few years. Interest rates are so low that they are bound to rise over the next 5 yrs, so that's a consideration. It's a balance but I guess you need a place with potential (so a bit of work is inevitable) and also the schools thing. I know what you mean. I used to glaze over when people went on about such things. Not now - I prick up my ears! Oh, and I think you should get yourself on lastminute.com and book a minibreak for the end of the week. Or pop over the channel for a couple of days. It's only Tuesday.

And Spot, I'm not going to mention the name of the lady we are seeing tonight, or the show she was in, as even though she is not a name you might have come across, the show's fans are lunatics who scour the internet and I don't want to set their loony beepers off and have them pile over here Grin It was a British sci-fi comedy set in space and ran for loads of series. 'Nuff said!

LadyThompson · 18/08/2010 10:07

Oh, and I notice that it is in fact Wednesday, but still.

I am not going to spend the day posting on here as I did yesterday, but I hope other people do as I want something to read!

LadyThompson · 18/08/2010 10:13

Oh, and for my third post Grin I have a quick question for Beans. How long are you putting DD1 into nursery for and when?

The pre_school opposite our new house, which is attached to the sweet little school DD will go to, accepts 2 yr olds, and they are open on mornings only every day, with an optional lunch club. I presume she would be free from 3 (unless the govt ditch that 15 hrs of free nursery care for over 3s) but I was thinking about putting her in for perhaps one or even two mornings a week once she is two. I don't know what the cost would be. What are your rough plans?
