Made the kids help me build a snowman in the garden. it didn't turn out very well but we had a good time, will put pics on fb later.
we have about a foot of snow and the car is rapidly disappearing

becaroodolf · 01/12/2010 18:19

Am dropping ds1 off at my dsis tomorrow morning and she is walking him and dnephews to school as the roads where the school are are really icy/slippy and I skidded twice in the car this morning. Not bothered about me but toby is in the car too. Roads into the town are ok AFAIK.

Snowed on and off here all day. Think the weather is supposed to change over the weekend and get warmer.

I went to asda and did a shop yesterday...sooo glad I did as I wouldnt have fancied it today...shiver.

ds1 has to learn a poem and recite it for his literacy homework next week - which is fine - except he wants to recite the whole of "Dinosaurs love underpants" Grin

CappuccinoCarrie · 01/12/2010 20:44

Hey bec thanks for standing up for me on another thread again, you're great! We love the underpants stories, he should totally be allowed to do that one!

eandz · 01/12/2010 21:34

Dinosaurs love underpants!!!!

Meglet · 01/12/2010 21:50

Well, we never got snowed in, which is probably a good thing.

We don't have Dinosaurs love Underpants, we have the alien one. Reading to the DC's is the only bit of quality time we get together, the rest of the time it's noise and chaos. DS had 'Where the wild things are' for his birthday, I thought it might scare him a little but he loves it Smile.

carrie you know it's bad when the supermarkets start cancelling. My delivery should be fine for tomorrow, obviously I have added a few extra packets of nappies, loo roll etc just in case the weather gets bad.

It dawned on me earlier that tomorrow it's 6 months since Dad died Sad. It's gone so fast. Winter is quite scary without a Dad who knows how cars work and can fix things for just a cup of tea and a few biscuits. I was chatting to my stepmum earlier and we are selling Dads vintage motorbike to a bike museum in the New Forest. They keep the bikes running and have themed days when they get them all out so they can be ridden. Dad bought his bike at 16 and looked after it so we think it makes sense to let it go to a good home where it can be maintained while it's still servicable. I just need to get some photos of the dc's with the bike before the museum come to collect it.

Pacita · 01/12/2010 22:26

meglet you must be feeling very melancholy. Please accept an un-mumsnet hug (and a virtual bar of organic chocolate with pecan nuts). I was brought up by my dad, so I can only imagine how much you must miss him.

I am 33 weeks pregnant. I'm bloody enormous, and finally last week is my las week at work. Today I waddled through the south london snow to get to the midwife, and was told that the baby is back in the breech position. This really made me feel down, as I really don't want a cesarean having Diego to look after too. Also, she found blood and sugar in my urine, whish she's sent to the lab. I hope it all comes to nothing.

My parents are due to land on friday, but gatwick is closed. This week couldn't have turned out more complicated. I really want this ghastly weather to stop, and I'm dreading the energy bills of this new house. Gulp.

Pacita · 01/12/2010 22:27

that should say "which she's sent to the lab". Can you tell my eyes are already only half way open?

becaroodolf · 02/12/2010 09:57

pacita fingers crossed for you x

meg I was thinking of you the other day and what a melancholy xmas this will be for you. Un MN hug to you x

carrie That thread is so scary!!! sigh. Depresses the hell out of me. Why cant women just supprt each other with these decisions...we all do what we feel is best for our families, surely??? I would never judge another mum for working, just as I dont think sahms are brain dead lazy bums! Think the OP has ishoos Grin

eandz Dinosaurs love underpants is ace!!! Its just quite long....ds1 also loevs where the wild things are and room on the broom, gruffalo, gruffalos child etc. Toby is still into the usborne look and say books/find it books.

Am getting some more black bags of stuff for the local hospice shop....so much "stuff" Its insane.

Snowing here

notcitrus · 02/12/2010 12:01

A let me put mittens on him this morning!!

Took 25 mins to get him to nursery, mostly on the road as pavements were impassable. Luckily 2 staff were there! But then all trains cancelled and two buses failed to leave SW16, so I stomped home again. Nursery will close at 4, so MrNC and I plan to drive to Homebase for a tree and lots of insulation tape etc and then carry A to the car.

Luckily I have my work computer here so can work - so far dealt with about 30 emails about stuff being cancelled...

Meglet · 02/12/2010 14:28

thanks pacita & becaroo. Melancholy is a good word for how I'm feeling. I keep thinking 'oooo, maybe Dad will pop by and scrape the car and dig it out' and then I realise he won't Sad. He was always so busy and helpful Smile.

Do I ring sainsburys to see if I get my food this evening? My snowmageddon / zombie plan has gone to pot. The Phil & Teds worked in the snow this morning, bit hard going but the only way we were going to get anywhere.

I have just stewed some apple to go in my first apple pie, ready made short crust pastry though Grin.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/12/2010 19:36

Snowmageddon Grin I've not heard that phrase before!

How are you today Meglet? I find annivs are very difficult and make my brain go into overdrive. I hope you can remember your dad with a smile as well as a tear. Annivs as this time of year are somehow worse as well.

I hope your Sainsbo's deliv arrived. Luckily we haven't had much snow here so we've been ok so far.

I'll be sending you some baby turning vibes Pacita. There's still enough time for the baby to turn, also Google spinning babies and get some tips to help your baby turn.

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/12/2010 23:46

we've booked asda for tomorrow morning...
will grumble if the soft play is full of older kids who are off school!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/12/2010 13:09

Off work till Tuesday (annual leave, not snow based) so heating on high and attemptinmg to get C out of nappies. Day 1 so no expectations - 4 changes of clothes and 5 carpet wees so far!

And next week, C starts her move up to the 3 year old room in nursery! Gulp! They say her speech has come on so much that she is more than ready. My baby!!

DebiTheScot · 03/12/2010 13:25

Hope your parents make it over pacita. Is Gatwick open again today?

Fingers crossed your delivery comes Carrie

Good luck for the rest of your weekend MrsA hope you don't end up with too much washing!

Does anyone else have a toddler who doesn't pee much at all? I reckon I could have ds2 out of nappies with only a couple of accidents a day without him having a clue what he's doing! It is very hard to get him to drink much- 1 beaker of juice a day if you're lucky plus small amount of milk- but he poos regularly and they are always gooey so I don't think he's dehydrated. His nappies are always quite dry though, even the 1st thing in the morning one.

Meglet · 03/12/2010 14:09

aaaw Mrsa at your DD moving up to the big room Smile.

My sainsburys delivery couldn't get here yesterday so we've just trudged to town and I stuffed the back seat of the phil & teds full of groceries so we're ok for a few days. Sainsburys delivery should be here on monday, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yesterdays 6 month anniversary wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. I was atually off work with poorly DD so it was quite a relaxing day. It would have been worse at work, nobody chats Sad Confused so I would have been sitting there thinking about Dad all day. I've only been there 6 months but I need a 'buzzier' office, sometimes it's silent for ages. I'm going to crack on with looking for a school job in the spring, I am guessing they are really hard to get but it would be good to get one before DS's first summer holiday break in 18 months time. Being a working lone parent is going to cause problems during school holidays.

Kagey · 03/12/2010 15:13

Meglet glad you were ok yesterday - anniversary's are tough :(

MrsA best of luck with training - I'm dreading when I finally give it a go but E clearly not ready yet but loves her pull-ups for impromptu wee-wee's on the toilet.

Debi E is not a great drinker either but seems to be hydrated enough - wet nappies etc.. With her if her water gets vaguely warm she despises it, but served quite cold appeases her and she takes a big gulp which keeps her going.

Now for some advice please??? E had a nasty fall on Saturday which ended up with a stressful trip to casualty, and then a dentist visit on Monday (fortunately before snowmaggedon!). All seems to be ok, a couple of teeth are now pushed a little back but does not need further treatment and infection is being kept at bay. However she screeches when her toothbrush comes anywhere near her - her gums are looking ok and are not inflamed, but guess the trauma and the pain is still very much in the memory - any ideas???

She did let us gently brush up until the dentist on Monday but has fought ever since then.

Pacita · 04/12/2010 18:57

Kagey, I think the nerve is probably sore, and that's why E does not like the pressure. I'd say it's a matter of time. You are lucky E lets you brush at all, D fights it like a demon, and will only contemplate brushing his teeth if on his own.

So my parents did get here at the end and it is lovely. DP is at a music festival for the weekend, so the support is greatly appreciated. They literally managed to leave hours before they closed the entire Spanish air space due to a massive air controller strike. Phew!

Meglet, really glad you were able to just relax.

MrsA, I've just read the 3 day potty training pdf, which a friend passed to me. Here is a link to the site you download it from. I am a bit sceptical, and her language makes me cringe, but the 3 days bit appeals to me. I'm not going to do it yet, not in this weather, and not 8 months pregnant! I think I'll give it a twirl in the spring and see how we get on. D seems to suddenly have started talking lots, so I think he'll be able to communicate wees soon.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 04/12/2010 20:02

Well day 1 of training we had 6 changes of clothes and 2 wees on the potty.

Day 2 (today), just one accident and all other wees inm the potty. We even played outside in the snow. Tomorrow we may venture out!
C has not pooed yet and she is due one but when she does, she'll get a huge sticker.

I may read that pdf pacita but so far so good and it's not been too awful.

kagey I agree they are probably just sore. Take it easy, don't worry if her teeth or not cleaned brilliantly for a bit and give them time to heal. Sounds scary. Hope she gets better soon.

Meglet · 04/12/2010 21:33

Smile. Well done MrsA. I am impressed!

kagey I'd go easy with teeth-brushing for a day or so then try again. They might still be tender, hope she's back to normal soon.

Kagey · 04/12/2010 22:14

Thanks v.much ladies!! E wasn't too bad with the toothbrush and allowed DH to help her with her lower teeth; will take your advice and not push it just yet with the upper teeth.

Sitting on the couch eating choccie pudding now, bliss!!

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/12/2010 09:35

Well done mrsA on C's potty success, sounds like its going really well!
kagey if E still appears to be in pain after a few more days I'd get it checked again, my friend's DD had a fall and was clearly in pain, there was nothing to see and the triage nurse didn't spot anything, but a passing consultant had a quick look and saw that behind the tooth there was a hairline fracture from top to bottom. The tooth had to be removed to stop infection getting in. Not trying to scare you, but if she doesn't seem better soon I'd get it checked again.

asda did deliver on Friday, hooray!

DS is so full of cold and cough, he keeps waking in the night and when we've given him medicine he sits up singing 'twinkle star' with gusto for quite some time which would be cute if it wasn't such an unreasonable hour.

DD's nursery school christmas play tomorrow, must stock up on tissues Blush

Well its my op on thursday this week...I need to POAS in the morning as AF is due on Friday. I'm trying to work out if I've got the usual amount of pre-menstrual spots/grumpiness/hunger/sore boobs etc and not get myself too excited that I could be pg and avoid the operation!

becaroodolf · 06/12/2010 12:04

minus 9.5 degrees on the school run this morning....not fun now Sad

House is freezing as we havent quite worked out how to use the new boiler yet Blush

Toby has now got ds1's cough and cold Sad Me next!

Hope you are all ok
x

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/12/2010 13:03

-9.5??? Bloody hell Bec, remind me, whereabouts are you? It's -2 in Suffolk today and it is thick with frozen fog which isn't shifting.

Have you got the instruction booklet for the boiler? If you can't work out the timer you should be abe to work out how to turn it on - if not give the plumber a shout.

M and I have got the dreaded cough at the mo, it drives me batty at night.

What is POAS Carrie? Good luck for Thursday.

I'm a bloody wreck at childrens school plays as well Blush

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/12/2010 13:22

peeing on a stick...I have to do a pregnancy test before my op.
