Sept 08 - Our LO's are nearly 2, and they're hiding to do a poo (is it time for potty training, not until it stops this raining)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
becaroo · 28/11/2010 10:20

Its quite common I think eandz I know that lots of xmall chikdren do it first thing in the morning - before their parents wake up.

I wouldnt use the cold shower techinque either tbh. Will have a look in my toddler taming book later and see what it advises for you!!

Its minus 8 degrees here now Shock

eandz · 28/11/2010 13:54

minus 8 degrees! i haven't checked to see what it is here.

i'm dreading my yearly costco run.

Meglet · 28/11/2010 13:57

I think it's about -2 here. I took the dc's out in the car to Toys R Us earlier as DS had a voucher to spend, he has new tracks for his wooden trainset now Smile. I nearly took the pushchair but it was so cold I bottled it Blush.

eandz · 28/11/2010 16:21

i was too much of a wimp to leave the house. the inner texan thinks it's wrong to leave a toasty environment for a nasty cold one.

i've something horrible, but feel quite smug aboutit. we were supposed to go to mils house on the way back from costco but since i never left, no point in going to mils house. (we were supposed to go to mils house for dinner and also pick up a new pram that they had gotten us because they don't approve of the pram we have)

so i made dh call and cancel, and ask if they would just put the pram in a minicab and send it to us, and then realized i have no groceries for dinner so made him call back and ask if she would send the food she was making for dinner with the pram...now if she'll only come over and clean up after, i think it'll be a perfect day.

becaroo · 28/11/2010 17:07

eandz thats how to deal with MILS!!!!!! Grin

Poor toby has ended up face down in his tea has he hasnt had a sleep today Sad am letting him have 30 mons on the sofa and am then going to make dh wake him up Smile

Hoping school isnt closed tomorrow...there are only 3 weeks left of the term and I would like ds1 to get the most out of them.

Tobys new wood floor is down in his bedroom BUT the radiators still arent back on and there is so much to do its making me very fed up....wish all the mess would just magically go away. sigh.

SCD results show at 7.30..whoo hoo Grin

eandz · 28/11/2010 21:10

i can't believe i've gotten away with MIL sending dinner and a gift while avoiding her all together.

i must not let this become a habit

I guess i'll be giving her the whole estee lauder make up gift box + perfume. (I got it on a black friday deal from dillards!!!)

CappuccinoCarrie · 29/11/2010 09:55

Good skills eandz

Yes debs we have SNOW! About 6 or 7 inches of it. DS hates it and won't put his feet down on it (something about not liking the footprints) and I can't push the buggy through it so we're basically housebound. The perils of living on a side street, I have no idea what's going on in the real world and no means of getting there to find out! There was no school run outside our house this morning, so I guess its a snow day at the school which means DD will have no nursery. We're still in our pjs, DD is creating 'butterfly food' with scissors and paper and DS is emptying our tupperware cupboard and lining up the boxes. Think it might be den building time soon under the table, followed by a lot of baking. I'll have to ask DH to pick up some milk on his walk home from work coz I'm gonna drink a lot of tea today!

becaroodolf · 29/11/2010 10:07

ILTMIMI Yes its an electronic book. Now, I realise that loving material things is wrong but I just cant help it. I want one and I would sell my mother to get one Blush

ds1 got tearful last night for the first time about going to school today...said he misses me and Toby so much Sad Thing is, I miss him too. Would have been so easy to carry on with the HE. I hope I am doing the right thing. sob.

Cant wait for weds to get the advent calendars up and we start making xmas cards and gifts at beavers too this week Smile

Meglet · 29/11/2010 11:20

becaro I love your Xmas name change Grin.

Debs75 · 29/11/2010 12:00

Eandz my friends dd smeared when she was 2. I casn tell you the way not to deal with it is to shout, get angry and then lock them in their room. Seriously her dad was a twat.
The way to help is to work out when he does it, in her case it was when they put her to bed. Then stay as near as possible to hear for signs of nappies being pulled off so you can get in there and change him.
He could be a bit constipated so wants the poo away as it was hurting.
It won't last forever either. DS did it for a while and he has asd and we soon got him to stop.

We have more snow, about 6" so ds is off school. The roads are passable but we are staying at home today

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/11/2010 12:57

Oh yes, good name change Bec. I can never think of name changes, and if I do they're a bit shit!

Sorry to hear your ds1 is upset. I would think it's quite normal that you are all missing eachother. Have the courage of your convictions and see how it goes. You didn't just make the decision on your own, and there were reasons why you came to the decision that you did, just remind yourself of them Smile

When you said milk Carrie, did you actually mean gin?! Grin

The snowfall here is pathetic and is melting already

eandz · 29/11/2010 13:15

becaroodolf

make sure to get the protection on your kindle/sonybook reader/nook.

I have a sonybook reader and it's really rough on my hands, heavy, annoying with a touch screen, but i can write my lists in it and lighter and harder to break. (got it as a gift from my parents when I had N)...

DH has a kindle (again gift from my parents) and someone pushed him on the tube and it's now broken, but I LOVED his kindle! so light and easy!

Debs75
I'm going to keep N in a babygrow and tights till this blows over. i've been letting him play with playdough but in the evening he still really really wants to play with his poo.

CappuccinoCarrie · 29/11/2010 14:22

iltmimi now you come to mention it, sherry stocks are at an all time low Confused

becaroodolf · 29/11/2010 16:18

Meglet Grin Feeling festive already!

eandz I was wondering about the kindle protection cover...I am mega clumsy and with 2 young dc its might be a good idea!! I second what carrie says re: clothes...nightwear that means N cant get at his nappy area is the way to go. I have to say I think the idea of letting him play with playdoh is genius hope it works for you.

ds1 at my sisters for tea and to play with his cousins, FIL upstairs finishing tobys bedroom floor and toby watching balamory. Feel a bit redundant Smile

ILTMIMI thanks x

Meglet · 29/11/2010 22:28

still no snow.

However I have stocked up on M&S ready meals in case we are snowed in Wink. There goes my financial planning this month, but at least I haven't got to wash up for a few days.

Me and DS have been looking at schools the last couple of weeks. There is one I really like and I'm crapping myself in case he can't get into it (just out of catchment but undersubscribed) and he has to go to the nice but not as nice nearby school. I don't like this whole admissions process at all Confused.

becaroodolf · 29/11/2010 22:55

Its very stressful isnt it, meglet Fingers crossed for you x

eandz · 30/11/2010 01:43

i'm a little overwhelmed by the idea of schooling Meglet I might be asking what/how to do everything, it only sounds reasonable that they would let your DS go if it's not full.

are there like pamphlets or something so I can figure out what to do with N and future schooling?

N did not play with his poo today. We kept him in hard to take off clothing (thank you Carrie and everyone else for the advice!)

I'm such a bad mother though, DH and I were completely tired, so after dinner (N's wind down time) we just started playing donkey kong (and gave N a turned off controller, so he thought he was playing with us) Poor child didn't get to bed till 9pm tonight he was soo excited.

DebiTheScot · 30/11/2010 13:12

That doesn't make you a bad mum eandz Nothing wrong with changing the routine occasioanlly to have a bit of fun. Does he sleep during the day? Mine still does so we can keep him up late occasionally as long as there's a chance for him to have a good nap the next day and it doesn't affect him.

We've finally got some snow Grin

CappuccinoCarrie · 30/11/2010 13:33
Debs75 · 30/11/2010 15:29

Robyn has spent nearly 48 hours in her peppa pig pj'sBlush.
In my defense she has had a bath during that time and she hasn't had to brave the cold like I have.

we have finally got her some drawers to put her clothes in. dp spent 2 hours putting them together yesterday then did Lucy's today. I spent an hour sorting clothes and putting them away, it's such a novelty. Unfortunately we have even less room now and we have no idea where Lucy's cot will go

eandz · 30/11/2010 23:55

day two of no poo!!!

Debs75
N LOVES to wear his spiderman costume before bed and when we have guests come over. (even with the muscle padding underneath) It's soo cute sometimes. He refused to change for a whole 3 days after Halloween, only to bathe. It was such a tiny request I didn't mind. He even kept it clean all three days.

(I know N seems to have a whole load of strange behavior, but I find them quite endearing)

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 01/12/2010 09:47

eandz am mightily impressed with n keeping clothes clean for 3 days - how on earth does he do that? What a star. I think we have trouble with 3 hours, let alone a day!

And I bet N has the same weird and wonderful habits that all 2 yr olds have :)
C is getting a bit too cute with requests. She has cottoned on that she gets things if she says please. So cue endearing pleas of 'Peppa Pig on plleeeaaasssee mummy'

Had a bit of a bad weekend with DP here. He was tired as C keeps waking about 5.50am to come into our bed. Quite frustrating as not early enough to really force her back to bed but up to now she's been sleeping till 6.45, and that hour seems to make such a difference to our energy levels. (Any tips btw - what would you do? She gets into our bed but wriggles and won't sleep, then complains she's tired)

But DP got really very shouty and was going on about discipline and me pandering to her, then had a complete strop about the state of the house etc etc. Tbh, he sounded just like a premenstrual me Grin.
I pointed out that as I work FT too, there's no way I'm spending my weekends cleaning when C wants my attention.
Sigh - he's reverted back to thinking she should behave like a 5 year old and that she fully understands consequences etc, so he shouts and she just laughs and acts up. I have no idea how to make him 'see the light'. Do you think I'm pandering to her? I do have boundaries and consequences but I view alot of what she does as normal 2 yr old development and let it pass.

And finally, I have Friday and Monday off, so I must be mad with the weather, but we are coming out of nappies (except at night). C reads her 'princess polly potty book' over and over and asks for pants and wants to go on the potty, so it's time to have a go. If no success after a week, I'll revert back and leave it till the spring.
I am quite scared though as the weekend before xmas we are booked to see father xmas and there will be a queue!! I foresee wet knickers.......

becaroodolf · 01/12/2010 09:48

Toby keeps wearing his pumpkin costume trousers from halloween - bright orange and black stripes...very fetching!! Not odd at all!

Lots of snow here - my dsis is picking ds1 up from school with my nephews as the roads near the school are like an ice rink.

dh left tobys car seat in his car so had to come back from work to fit it back in mine so ds1 was late for school.

What a bloody morning. Am ordering another car seat today. This is the last time he does this to me!!! Angry

notcitrus · 01/12/2010 11:09

A didn't have a Halloween costume this year, but he has been known to refuse to be removed from his Bob the Builder PJs, and is anti-trousers. I've finally convinced him (or rather the weather has) that trousers are not optional for going outside, and yesterday the snow even got him to wear his hat, but still no gloves have lasted over 30 secs on him.

I did end up taking him to sign+sign class with Bob pyjama top once, given he'd been poorly, wanted to go, but didn't want to change. Last class tomorrow and he's now way too old really and they aren't running the next level this year, so that's the end. [sniff]Sad

Nearest signing toddler I know is in Oxford, too.

I put my back out on Monday, so struggling home via 2 tubes, 2 buses and walking the last mile past gridlock didn't help. It's a bit better today and A has been very good, except for waking early... He made a snowman with his friend at nursery yesterday and is still very excited. Smile

CappuccinoCarrie · 01/12/2010 13:33

All the schools in york have shut. Of course I only discovered this on our way to nursery when we met kids and parents coming the other way! DD's nursery school was listed on the council website about a minute after I walked away from the computer to get everyone suited and booted ready to go out.
And now Tesco have cancelled our delivery tonight.
All of which is of course incredibly sensible given the treacherous blizzard conditions, but oh so very very annoying!
DS now asleep and DD watching films. Guess its another afternoon of baking ahead...!
