Q did that for a bit HMM. He wouldn't walk on grass for a short period of time... Was odd. And anything bumpy - but now he's everywhere!

StarExpat · 19/07/2010 13:44

csws - when you get a minute, post a few of your favourite things to eat (that you are permitted dairy free...etc.) so we can bring you some happiness with our visit on Monday

Truly shocking, pistachio! I hope people start bringing their kids with them!!

Myjob enjoy your nights with a quiet house
I had something exactly like whT you are describing on your ds. I'll try to remember the name of what the gp told me it was. As long as it goes back down it's ok. Took mine about 2 weeks AFter it finished growing to go back down.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/07/2010 20:12

Am lol at 'when you get a minute' - have been on my own with all 3 dc since Sunday night (dh in Greece), and it feels like I'll never get a minute again! He's going for 4 days next week too, which I'm none too impressed about, esp as all the playgroups for ds1 will have finished by then.

But treat wise, my fave things for you to pick from are Lyme Regis Marzipan bars (have a dark choc coating - def available in Waitrose), Waitrose dark choc with amaretti, ready salted pringles, warninks advocaat (would be baileys if only it were dairy free) - not exactly a healthy selection! And if anyone can find any dairy free chicken liver pate I'll give you a big kiss (or not, as you prefer ).

Yay for lack of jury duty.

Hello knickers .

StarExpat · 20/07/2010 21:03

Oh I love you for saying things that don't involve me in the kitchen
I meant ..... You know.... One of the minutes where you are simultaneously feeding D and J while P reads Pride and Prejudice and you MN... What? That's not what you do all the time??

pepperrabbit · 21/07/2010 13:08

Hello! Last half hour to myself before the summer hell holidays start. I'm working tomorrow and Fri so they don't count.
DS2 finishes pre-school today - he's quite sad which means I'm bound to blub when I pick him up .
DD has her last music thing this afternoon - I really really plan to arrive there organised today. After an entire term, not once have I arrived with her fed and having had a sleep and being fully dressed... we were SO close last week, but she had no shoes on.... Some weeks I shove bits of sandwich in her mouth between tunes .
She's asleep at the mo, have 27 minutes get her up fed and out... tick tock.
Pistachio - as an aside pee is excellent for compost, used to empty the potty straight into the compost heap with the boys.
CSWS, sounds like you're doing an excellent job, as I was in exactly your position 21 months ago , and am almost certain I was just blubbing most of the time around now!

If it doesn't go down then it might be a cyst, but if it does start to get smaller again (and eventually go away) then you'll know it's probably just this thing that I get sometimes.... still can't remember the name!! I hope it's that and nothing that is going to need more attention. Is it bothering or hurting him? Poor thing

Pepper - I giggled reading your post When does dd go down for a nap?

Q doesn't go to sleep until anytime between 12-1pm and sleeps until about 4 or 4.30 (obviously he will be fingers crossed sleeping in ronshar's car there and back when we go to csws on Monday!)
But, my cm has to collect a little girl after school at 3pm, so has to leave her house at 2.50pm starting in September. So, I'll need to get him to go for his nap earlier then... I have no idea how to do this. Just put him in his bed earlier?

That is such an amazing nap star! tbh I would just get her to put him down at 12:15-12:30 and then get him up about 2:30 in time for him to wake up properly before the school run. You might find that he sleeps a bit better at night then too.

I thought I was actually going to get both boys down for a nap together this afternoon (ds1 is napping some days but not others), but ds2 woke a few mins after being put down, acted like he wanted more milk, latched on and then fell asleep in my arms aafter about 30secs , where he still is now (hence 1 handed typing).

Just trying to do a tesco order for tomorrow as dh left fridge door open all day on friday, so had to throw out loads of stuff.

Can I add G&B cherry & almond choc coated cereal bars to my potential goodies list pls, esp as tesco online don't appear to stock.

Do you have the appt for ds already myjob? Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Did I say that ds2 has to have an echo on his heart to check out a murmur? We have that appt through now for 17th aug.

StarExpat · 21/07/2010 14:20

myjob that sounds a lot like what I had. Good that it's not causing any pain, too.

csws - I hope it is all just fine. Are they doing anythign else about it in the meantime or is he ok otherwise? I Like that Q naps, but I also feel like it often really limits our days.
About the nap...
Sounds ideal... but, on the days when Q has only 1 or 2 hours of a nap, he's had a really restless night. Q sleeps pretty well at night. He goes to bed sometime between 7-8pm. The only problem is he wakes up once, normally sometime between 2.30-3.30am... as soon as I put him in our bed with us (he won't climb out of his and into ours ) he falls straight back to sleep. He's been getting up at around 6 or sometimes (gasp!) 7am. He does toss and turn and mumble and sit up and back down again a bit from about 5, though. We have learned to ignore him. .
I feel like if he had his own room, we could train him to stay in his bed, in his room all night and get through that one wake up. I could work on it and get him to stay in his bed now, but it's just such a vicious cycle because he keeps getting smarter and sees us there... it would be easier long term(after a hard week or 2 of work probably!) if he had his own bedroom... or just one separate from us. Hopefully sometime...

Is M the only one who doesn't nap at all anymore? She hasn't really napped since 19 months, maybe twice a month.

Myjob - Cysts are often not painful, it is more than likely a cyst which will be drained or go away on it's own. Good luck at the doctors.

CSWS - I am in awe that you are still writing coherent sentences. I think I would have crawled under the bed, hoping that everything would just go away by now. I thought it was hellish when DH was away and I only had school age DS and 4 month old M. M was a non-sleeping baby back then though.....

Pistachio - Hurrah that you deferred jury duty again haroo that it's such a bugger to defer for a longer period.

Star - Not talking to you with your wonder napping boy. You must have so much time to do stuff around the house!

Pepper - Hope that DS2's last day wasn't too sad. DS was very sad to leave his nursery but in the end it was me that nearly blubbed whereas he just said "Bye" and waved.

I have nothing interesting to report. Bah, my life is boring!

Yes it's lovely!!
Pistachio - once asleep for a nap be is extremely difficult to wake and I always wake him. At cm he does wake eventually after curtAins open lights noise...etc but requires a half hour of cuddles before he's properly up again... An will often try to go back to sleep during cuddles.
Having said all of that, he had an hour and a half rest in his bed today at naptime but didn't sleep! This happens about once per month. And although he got 10 mins later in the car, he was proper mr grumpy from 4pm onward. Right at 7, though, he was saying "night night". Still awake in his bed in there, but he's calm sleepy and quiet.

StarExpat · 21/07/2010 19:26

Ugh
He
And
I'm not going to proof read the rest. Damn iPhone! WHY can't MNHQ make a mobile site ?? Not like that would help my fat thumbs ...

StarExpat · 21/07/2010 20:56

Oh and those Lyme Regis bars are my favs, too csws! Anything with marzipan is sooooo delicious... Mmmmm

ronshar · 21/07/2010 21:23

Evening.
CSWS shall I bring you some Carrot sticks to even out the treats

Myjob. It is a sad day when they leave play group but it is still a while before Ds goes to school. It sounds like the lump is most likely to be a fatty lump or a plain old cyst. Easily sorted.
Enjoy the boy free nights because he will come back and not leave you alone for 24hours

Pepper. I'm with you at the holiday hell fun.
Another baby moving on to big school.

Pistachio. I am very of your clever DS. I am trying to convince DS to wee in the potty and he laughs in my face! He will wee in the garden. In fact is as proud as only a male can be about outdoor weeing. He also thinks that passing wind is the best thing ever.

50ft. I am trying to get W to drop his nap. Little monkey would sleep for three hours if I let him. I am a bit fed up of being stuck in the house not being able to go out shopping and do quality things with the boy.

Knickers always nice to see you back

I have been busy but not really doing anything for myself. Pesky kids just get busier all the time!

coconutfeet · 21/07/2010 21:38

Evening all. Just a flying visit as I've got tons of things I should be doing.

CSWS - You really are a legend, holding it all together while you're all on your own. I'd be in a heap. I'm glad you don't have to wait too long for DS2's appt.

Great news that you've got the jury service people off your back for a while at least Pistachio.

Star - Was that thing you had called a ganglion? My friend used to have something like that that came and went. Myjob - I hope you're not too worried about ds's lump.

I had my last day at school with the kids today. I've got to go in on Friday for an Inset, but otherwise I'm FREE for 5 weeks!!

I'm feeling like I'm really lagging behind you all on the potty training thing. S has only ever done half a wee in his potty. He said "wee coming" and I whisked him onto it halfway through. And that's it.

Oh, and I've cut out the evening BF. So far, not too traumatic. Thanks, all, for putting up with my tears the other night. I got my period the following day, which explained my over-emotional state.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/07/2010 21:58

Just a quickie to reassure cf that she's not behind on the potty training. Since ds doesn't speak yet he hasn't told me that he needs anything at all, the potty is still packed away, and yesterday he did a poo on the kitchen floor when he had nappy free time (at the same moment as I discovered that dinner had burned/dried up in the freezer (poss a bit of both) and ds2 woke up screaming. Those were a fun few minutes .

StarExpat · 21/07/2010 22:09

That sounds very busy csws!!

Ok so Q will some times tell us he's wet himself but tbh we aren't convinced he's actually done anything since he sits on the potty and says "pee pee" then claps for himself even though he hasn't done anything!

Anyway... The very few occasions when he has peed during nappy free time (and he hasn't done it in several weeks - or poo - he holds it until a nappy is put on. Weird - just use the potty!!!) anyway, when he did used to do it, he'd cry every time! He'd look at it and point to it and cry. But the first cry we heard each time was a pain cry.... Does it hurt them to pee? I asked dh and he said, well it's warm so maybe it freaked him out...

ronshar · 21/07/2010 22:11

Now that sounds more like it CSWS.

CF if DS can tell you he needs a wee then that is the best start. Keep encouraging him to go to the potty and have loads of nappy free time. W loves his big boy pants, mostly over his nappy mind you

StarExpat · 21/07/2010 22:14

Sorry go cut off. But he doesn't cry when he wets his nappy. So I don't think there's an infection or anything.

No cf that's not the name... I will do a quick search tomorrow.

For those with dc who dropped naps or do every other days - do you still put them in their bed in their room with some books for a bit of quiet time anyway? I was thinking of doing this when Q decides to drop his nap because I think he will still need to rest a bit... Or is that cruel?
