Lol we do free stuff like that. Ikea is like Disneyland for W. B&Q ditto. Even just sainsburys! We do have a huge bank of free stuff to do but I just end up spending more when I'm home somehow - need to resist even small trips to grocery shop...etc. I spend no money other than on food in the week. At 4 when we are all home we go to the library or park or duck pond or B&Q or to train station to watch the trains, swimming... Etc.
Things just tend to come up more on weekends and holidays, it seems.

Coconutfeet · 18/10/2010 20:17

I'm not too bad thanks Pistachio. I think I should be back to normal by tomorrow or so.

I know what you mean about working in town. Pistachio - Before my teaching days, I used to work in central London and was always popping out for something. I could easily spend at least a fiver a day and have absolutely nothing to show for it. I'm lucky in that there's absolutely nothing to spend money on around where I work so it saves me a fortune.

S loves a trip to Ikea too! I took him there the other week and we ended up not even buying anything and just having lunch in the cafe. S thought we were on a boat because we were eating fish and chips and last time we had that we were on the ferry going on holiday.

Star - How's your new estate agent shaping up? Have they managed to get you any more viewings on your place?

StarExpat · 18/10/2010 20:52

We were meant to have a viewing tonight but she cancelled :( I just like the new agents better so it's good. The last one was run by a lady who was nice at first but then got very short, snooty and patronising toward us and I just couldn't wait to be free from them. I emailed the OThEr lady in the office when I needed to cancel and she wrote back "completely understandable". I know she can't stand the lady in charge either. She's soooooo up herself. Sorry - bit of a rant there.

I always pack a lunch and drink to take to work as well.

I feel like I might give in to Q too much and maybe spoil him ... I don't want to do him any harm. How can you tell what is normal toddler behaviour and what is spoilt and a result of poor parenting?

Q always seems tame next to another toddler at cm's who tends to be a bit more whingy but then I think he's there until about 6pm so he's probably disrupted seeing me coming and sweep Q away happily mid afternoon...

loulou33 · 18/10/2010 21:09

CSWS - Your morning sounds awful, hope your day got better. I can't believe you DH got on the plane and infected all those people going off on holiday AND left you on your ownShock Hope DS2 is feeling better and not being sick all over you....

Glad you had a good day Star and I'm also glad I'm not the only one who whispers things like that to the children - I break out into a sweat whent he kids play up in public Blush

All very dull here - trying to do prep for my interview on Friday but can't seem to find the energy

Pepper - Poor dd being so ill. Hope its not contagious - time will tell.....

StarExpat · 18/10/2010 21:18

Another thing whispered to DS today (going along with the have I spoiled him question) ... I, StarExpat, actually whispered to ds mid-tantrum after trying everything else (he just didn't want to leave but I needed to go before bad traffic and it had been several hours anyway... He needed a nap, too and was grumpy already).... Anyway, I hissed whispered, "if you stop
crying right NOW, I'll give you a sweetie" Blush
I was Shock at myself.

StarExpat · 18/10/2010 21:19

Is it an interview for a new job, loulou?

pepperrabbit · 18/10/2010 21:34

sounds quite normal to me star - I tend to read a situation and judge if a bribe or threat is likely to be more effective!
It's a bit like a maternal fight or flight instinct i suspect Grin.

ronshar · 18/10/2010 21:49

I am appalled at your bad parenting StarShock
What were you thinking. You never go straight in with the sweet bribe. Start small with a train or car and if that doesnt work you bring out the big guns. Sweets/chocolate/cake.
It never failsGrin

Loulou is that a new job? How exciting.

Where is 50ft? Where has she gone?

CSWS. I can sympathise with the crap husband situation. Hope you are all feeling better soon.

CFSad

Pistachio. Only a few more weeks and you will be much better.

Myjob oh dear you are poorly again. Is it just you or are the children poorly sick too?

Pepper Yuck a drive to Wales and a sick child to deal with. No fun at all.

StarExpat · 18/10/2010 21:54

Tx ronshar I'll bear that in mind :)

Just FYI - I can't get to my fb groups page at the moment. Haven't been able to since last time posted.

pepperrabbit · 19/10/2010 12:26

star - I've been having that problem too with fb - thought I was being a numpty! I only got to the group page the other day cos there was a notification that someone had posted - and when I clicked to their page, it said "X hsa just posted on Mumsnet 08 Etc.."then the name of the discussion, so i could link through - BUT it did occur to me that the name of the discussion "I think I've found out why i was feeling..." was a bit of a giveaway to appear on a fb profile.

Or am I cyber paranoid after 2 days trapped at home watching CBeebies and the news??

DD has an ear infection, poor mite, been to the docs this morning - didn't even have to argue my case for antibiotics. I was all set for a fight!

She's asleep now and I'm waiting for a Dell engineer to come fix my "on" button.
Crazy life i lead Biscuit

pepperrabbit · 19/10/2010 12:27

ronshar - in our house the giggest lure of all is the offer of a trip to Poundland! can be cheaper than cake - or just equal a lot of dodgy cake!

I went to the pizza express playdough thing in Richmond today with some other mnetters. They were very friendly and Q enjoyed it - and the food. It was all free Shock I was waiting for the check at the end and didn't realise it Blush. they even gave us a lovely bag with pizza express pasta, pasta sauce, salad dressing, some sweet treats...etc. They kept bringing out their new ideas for menu items... Doughballs in nutella was a big hit for the kids!

Q is not ready to be fully pt. I will let him use the potty when nappy free but not going to bother doing it fully now because he keeps saying "no no! Pee pee in nappy" even when I tried to explain that it goes in the toilet Hmm. He'll do it part time for now (mornings and evenings during nappy free time) and full time perhaps at Xmas :)
Besides... Selfishly, I want to go out with him without accidents this week.

Ekka · 19/10/2010 23:14

Its also not just the accidents Star, its having to drop everything and dash for the toilet when they say they need it, even if you've just got your lunch in a restaurant or are in the queue at the supermarket.... Dd was really tired today and has had about 4 little accidents (damp pants) and one massive one all over her car seat when she fell asleep in the car .

Sorry, I've not kept up with everything recently. Happy Birthday to all little ones! And Mums too!!!!

Ronshar, hope that things improve for you soon, life sounds rough at the moment.

CSWS - how is the house of horrors? Are you all recovering from your bug? I hope that J is improving.

Myjob, glad you are feeling a bit better.

Somehow, things have got really busy here this term, with both kids doing activities, plus doing dd's reading books, and trying to keep up with ds, who just gets more and more of a handful! Plus he has really got into asking 'why' - everything I say is always questioned. Dd has never been so curious and I'm struggling to get used to it! Dh's back is still not great, though he's off the morphine based painkillers, bit still not great and can't stand for any length of time without his legs going numb Sad.

StarExpat · 20/10/2010 15:20

Did I miss this if so in sorry but has dh been given a dx, Ekka? I knew he was poorly on your holiday but wasn't sure if they figured out what is wrong? Poor guy it sounds dreadful :( is there anything more they can do to help him? Other than painkillers? I hope things start looking up soon for him.

And thanks, Ekka. I will now keep Q in a nappy/ pull up until he's 10 Wink.

Coconutfeet · 20/10/2010 20:10

I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering how your dh was, Ekka. How awful that he's still in pain. Must be hard on you too, as presumably he can't do much.

CSWS and Pepper- How are things in the sick houses?

Myjob - Glad you're better now. I've never had actual flu (dp has a "spot of flu" quite often though Hmm). It sounds truly grim.

Halle-bloody-lujah, I've broken up at last. I really need a few days away from work because, as well as it being manic, I've been dealing with a violent pupil with a distinct lack of support from senior management. I can't say any more on here but I'm not very happy and I really haven't been in the mood.

StarExpat · 20/10/2010 21:38

Blush Blush Blush
I am the worst wife
My dh just asked me
"so what do you want to do tomorrow?"
me: Hmm what?
dh: Should we bring Q with us or go out alone?
me: it's a Thursday. Hmm what are you on about?
dh: uhhh, (holds up number 3 on his fingers and looks at me hopefully)
me: Hmm ..... Hmm.... Shock Shock Blush

It's our wedding anniversary tomorrow. 3 years married, 10 years together. Damn it. I'm crap. How did he remember? Men aren't meant to remember this stuff.

loulou33 · 20/10/2010 21:48

hope the poorly people are feeling better..sorry you DH is still in so much discomfort Ekka

CF - happy holidays!!

Interview is for my boss' job - he retired last month and I have been doing his job but need to apply etc formally for it. Sadly its a full time position and this is not negotiable as it was advertised as FT - will be able to work from home and use holidays to begin with and hopefully go back to 30hours after a few months. on the upside if i get it, it would mean a 20K payrise Grin Grin as its PT lower grade to full time top grade....just got to get it now!!

MIL coming to stay tomorrow for a while and DS1 woke up sobbing this am as he had been dreaming about grandad - broke my heart. Then had 2 hour journey to meeting in Edinburgh and half way through the morning, i noticed dried snot on my shoulder from DS1 Wink you can get all dressed up for work but the kids bring you back down to earth...only just got home in time for bedtime and DS1 thought the snot stain was hilarious!!
Off to bed am knackered - new thread by the time i'm back tomorrow? Hmm

loulou33 · 20/10/2010 21:49

Hmm?
