oh coop just scrolled down to yr message......argh stress!! sympathies

like I say I've cheated so far and had mil up and tried to stay a bit more home/park based but it really is still hard to keep an eye out when the two of them are needing full on attention yeah? perhaps we should get some satellite tracking system...? my nightmare with the 2 of them at the mo is Dd is a runner, so if we're out and I have to feed am terrified she'll run off (and does) without me being able to get her

must go pasta overcooked!!

lummox · 08/09/2005 18:43

Evening all.

Not a great day today. ds slept well last night but not at all well in the day. One step forward.....

Loved the pic of Bubaloo's ds on Member Profiles - very jealous of all the hair though. Our ds currently looking like a mad monk with hair receding front the front.

Thanks Lummox.can't believe how small the piccie was to start with, and now it's rather large-he he!! Looks can be decieving-ds's hair is falling out a little bit at the back.

I'm enjoying a baby-free evening tonight.Dh has taken Ds to my FIL so I can pack, but I've just had a lovely soak in the bath and now I'm going downstairs to watch a bit of tele-without anyone hogging the remote control.
Maybe I'll do the packing tomorrow.

bubbaloo · 08/09/2005 19:18

KVG-ROFL at your boob comment, how very true.

Happy birthday to Mr.KVG.

charleypops · 08/09/2005 19:55

Hello everyone

Hope all is well - no hope of catching up much this time. I feel like I've been away for ages. I keep trying to post, but get distracted and by the time I get back to it, it's no longer relevant...

So sorry I missed the meet up, I told Uwila we were supposed to going to Bournemouth that day. Didn't make it. Ended up having a sleep instead after I'd deposited ds with dp. Dp's been working away a lot so I've been doing all the baby care for weeks . It wouldn't be too bad if he let me get any sleep lol.

I've noticed there have been quite a few sleep issues here, I was quite relieved to hear it's not just me!

Sometimes when ds is tired in the day, he gets really cranky and I cannot placate him enough to settle for a nap, so the past couple of days I've left him to cry in his carrycot for about 3 or 4 mins on his afternoon nap, then I put my hands on him and he goes out like a light. Is this really cruel?? My instinct is telling me that he sometimes needs a bit of a cry to get rid of tension and make himself sleepy?

Welshie - I can just see your dd in a tutu! Aw!

Bubb - gorgeous piccie of your ds. Mine has so far only laughed twice over the past 3 days and both times for daddy, (probably because he's hardly been around) - I've tried everything to make him laugh for me, but he hasn't so far... my ds has a little lump in the back of his neck too. HV told me to mention it to the consultant when we see him next. It doesn't particularly bother me though. I reckon it might be a muscular knot from the trauma of his delivery, hv says it could be a gland. Are you going anywhere nice on Saturday?

Coop - bit of a nasty day today? Good luck with the potty training - sounds like it won't be long.

When do babies start to play with their feet? I had a babycentre email bulletin today which said 2 months! Ds is 11 weeks now and isn't playing with his feet

charleypops · 08/09/2005 20:30

Trib - how are you getting on with your Matrixcar seat? Ds suddenly hates lying down in his, most of the time so I'm thinking of putting it up into an upright position. Have you done this yet?

eastyorksmum · 08/09/2005 20:32

lummox · 08/09/2005 20:53

15 weeks today and no sign of playing with his feet, Charley. Unless kicking counts!

sfxmum · 08/09/2005 21:02

yep no playinf with feet and no rolling over at all.
plenty of babbling shouting screeching and wacking rattles.... am so proud (14wks today

teabelly · 08/09/2005 21:02

Evening ladies

Just a quickie...supposed to be packing too hope you're off somewhere nice Bubb...we're off to Devon bright and early tomorrow just as the weather looks set to change great...hey ho

Charley - hi ya...don't worry about letting ds have a little cry before going to sleep...babes need to cry abit I'm sure I've read that somewhere...and dd certainly has if I haven't

Coop - what a day! Don't feel a failure poppet - you've done real well, we had one or two false starts with ds's potty training, so you've already done loads better than we did - keep going it'll all be worth it

Bubb - fab piccie I'll try and update one of dd when we get back next week.

Right - really must go, wine getting warm and I really really must start packing

See you all in a week - don't chat too much, x

bubbaloo · 08/09/2005 21:07

Charley-I wonder if your ds's lump might be the same as oscar's.Although he is fairly big he has a skinny neck and according to my doc,the lumps are just bits of bone and vertabrae(sp?).He said lots of babies have them apparently, but of course it's best to get these things checked out to put your mind at rest.
Ds also ISN'T playing with his feet yet-probably because he hasn't seen them for the past 7 weeks,as they've been in plaster. He certainly knows where his hands are though, and prefers them to his dummy now,and spends all day trying to get both fists in his mouth at the same time-lol!
We're actually off to Great Yarmouth on Saturday, staying at a holiday camp.We love holidaying in this country-there's so many lovely places to see, that we go away about 4 times a year.

SFX-if you go to member profiles(on the main board),you have the option of posting pictures on there, aswell as messages!

bubbaloo · 08/09/2005 21:09

Thanks tea-x posted.

Enjoy Devon-we went to Woolacoombe in november and it was lovely.

tribpot · 08/09/2005 21:40

Just a very quicky ladies, trying to get to bed - you know how it is at 9:30 in the evening, zzzzz.

Charley, due to ds' habit of screaming blue murder in his car seat, we turned it into the upright a few weeks ago. I hate it from the point of view of him sleeping with his head all bent over on one side, but he thinks it's fab, plus I can sit in the back with him and keep him under control when we're out. Refluxy baby + lie-flat seat = nightmare, in my experience. However, make sure you get it tipped up at the front (the bit closest to the seat back) - you'll see what I mean. Otherwise it is ludicrously uncomfortable.

Playing with feet - Toby does this! Either he is reading the email bulletins or it's total coincidence. Also doing well on the rolling, he can get as far as his side. Obviously I would like to attribute this to excellent parenting but clearly it is not.

Having said that, there is a slightly mad woman in my 'life with baby' class whose dd is 5 months old, so quite the veteran compared to our little beans. Dd can't do anything our beans can't, though. When quizzed today, the mum said "oh, I never put her down on the floor" and "she hasn't learnt to roll yet, she's lazy". Hello ... maybe these two things have something to do with each other?! Dd was clearly very happy kicking about on the floor during the class, I really can't imagine why she doesn't put her down on the floor.

Btw, re: reflux, I spoke to a friend of mine who is a consultant paediatrician, she is convinced it is reflux, so I am off to the doc's tomorrow to demand treatment. I've actually already started him on Infant Gaviscon, just to see what would happen before we saw the doc. Watch this space.

mandymac · 08/09/2005 21:57

Evening

Bubb - DD is also very keen to digest her own hands at present, makes really cool sucking noises wilst she is at it too

Charley - I'm with Tea on the crying situation. My HV suggested letting dd cry a bit to settle for naps/nightime sleeps and we have. Only because nothing else worked and she seemed really unhappy and tired . Seems to be working and time she crys is decreasing. Shes settling for daytime naps in 5-10 mins and nights in about 20 and that is after about 4 or 5 days of letting her cry a bit. So don't feel bad (easier said than done I know), you are doing it for her, not you!

Welshie - well done on the night sleeps - let us know about the daytimes too. I want to know how to get naps past the 45 minute mark if poss, wonder if your sleep lady knows the secret?

Bubb - thanks for the solidarity on scoffing chocolate cake before 10am - its the way forward I reckon, cornflakes are for wimps! . Lovely piccy too - how cute is your ds?!

RHM - Where did you go and which celebs did you spot? Sounds like fun!

EYM - what a nightmare time you had at the clinic, glad william was such a sweetie for you though.

No feet action in the Mac household either, ear twiddling, fist sucking and eye rubbing a plenty, oh yes and my favourite: DD keeps grabbing her sleepsuit when me or dh are changing her and pulling it up - we can't work out if she is trying to help by keeping it away from the business end, or flash her boobs .

Coop - hope things improve tomorrow for you! Sounds like you are doing a great job on the potty training. Oh yes and I generally only give 1 boob at each feed, as they never run out. Only time I give her both is if its been ages between feeds and I need her to empty them a bit .

Cooperoo · 09/09/2005 07:13

Hello ladies,
Aww thanks for the support. Today is a new day . I think it was just the catalogue of things and I think you are right about not realising how tired you really are. DD2 still feeding every 2-3 hours at night but I think I will begin to get used to it. I don't know what to do differently at the moment. Poor dd1 fell out of her bed at 5 this morning too. DH went (as he gets up at 0530 anyway) and lay down with her until she dropped off again. She told me all about it when I got her up bless her. Right have to go as dd2 is squawking poor little thing. Have good holidays Tea and Bubb. I hope the weather is kind to you. Bye for now ladies.

Lynny-I was also wondering about winding ds.Lately he is getting harder and harder to wind and I have actually put him down a couple of times without him burping. When he was younger he'd burp after every feed.
We're taking our travel cot with us tomorrow-I can fit it in our car now,he he he.
Enjoy your hols!

Cooperoo · 09/09/2005 09:40

Hello
I am not very good at remembering to burp dd2 after feeds , but we have been lucky to only have windy problems for a few weeks at the beginning. She is a big 11 week old and often burps herself if she is sat in a chair. If you are trying to burp them for a bit and they don't do anything I wouldn't worry and would assume they are getting better at taking their feed without gulping air perhaps.

Cooperoo · 09/09/2005 09:42

Have a good hols too. (Lynny have emailed you )

Morning junies hugsssssss

Tea and lynny have great holidays big hugssssssss we go on ours soon cant wait.

Coops im glad your feeling better, you are a great mum we can all see that over tiredness is really hard hope you have a better day.

Mandy great post and william hasnt found his feet yet, but plenty of hand in the mouth and poking the eyes action he also follows you when you go out the room, he is very vocal and bless him doesnt cry at all much, we are lucky.

Why is it when i to talk about my mum, i break down totally girls, had to explain cancer history to nurse at grrrrrrr family planning. I just wish i could think of mam in happier times, we had so many of them.

Anyway clam day planned today lol chat later xxx

sfxmum · 09/09/2005 11:03

morning ladies
quite good night i am pleased to report, again trying to get her to nap in cot, clock ticking..

all going on hols - have a good one

coop- glad you felt better, i keep tabs so i dont loose the nerve about having another one

burping- yes its different now, sometimes it comes up straigh away, sometimes i feel like i might be battering the poor child. she seems to resolve it one way or another, i just worry if she doesn't burp she doesn't settle which clearly is not always the case.

thinking about joining some mummy and baby group, been avoiding them. what do you think of them? worth it?
i did not attend prep classes so no natural progression.

well have a nice day, still some sunshine here might pop out and enjoy it

Afternoon all,
Burping - ds sometimes does it of his own accord and sometimes if he just sits upright on my lap, other times not at all. He's far less windy generally so am assuming it's ok.

Feet - hasn't found feet yet but adores his fists, also desperate to roll over, batting toys in play gym, and enjoying his 'tummy time' for about 10 mins max - then grizzly.

SFX - I go to parent and baby group and really like it BUT it's really dependant on the parents - have been to a couple that were way to cliquey. I'd say give it a go - you might make some mummy mates.

Have lovely hols those who are going - I bet Devon will be just gorgeous now.

Charley - Hello -haven't chatted to you for ages and ages.I'm afraid that let ds cry for a bit longer than 4mins when he goes down first thing in the evening, it just seems to be his way of winding down. Hope it eases off soon as it makes me feel guilty too. But he wants to cry wherever he is - breast, lap, sofa etc - so he might as well do it in his cot I think.

EYM - Can I ask what happened to your mum? Mine died from breast cancer 10 years ago and I still miss her like crazy - having kids made it worse. Sympathy to you on the having to explain history - I'd be exactly the same.

Sleeps get better here every night at the mo - last night it was 7.30pm until 7.45am - with one feed at 3.30am. I skip down the street now.
Mandymac - his daytime sleep pattern changes all the time atm - I think because the nights are changing so fast. I'll wait until that's settled down before thinking about the day in too great detail I think.
Must go the lad is complaining. xxx
