Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
eastyorksmum · 07/09/2005 16:30

Im with you this afternoon mandy although william has had good naps during today, he nearly choaked on his bottle grrrrrrr
i dont why he just gulps sometimes, have MAM bottles too.

Anyway hes fine was falling asleep again so ater we had a play i just put him down in his carrycot, which is in living room, said nite nite and he went to sleep, must admit this is the first time hes done it, and only because he is very tired. have you tried laying your baby over your shoulder and walking around, and singing sometimes they just need to relax to fall asleep hun.

Anyway hope baby settles for you xxxxxxxx

JonahB · 07/09/2005 19:09

Hi All,

Mrs Wed, oh, don?t say that about Mr Men . Is that the case with all our childhood books? Is the Hungry Caterpillar never going to be the same again?

Bub, fab news about Oscar?s little legs

Sfx ? I am so with you on missing underwired bras. Every time I look in the mirror, it just makes me sigh. I can?t wait to be back in bras that make you look at least a little respectable.

I?ve just started horizontal action again . It was actually easier than I was expecting. But like a few people have said, a bit of lubricant does help a lot. Sorry TMI.

Mandy, sorry you?ve had a bad day today. I?ll keep my fingers crossed for you tonight.

DS has got his 2nd jabs tomorrow. Last time he was grumpy all day. Wish me luck...

mandymac · 07/09/2005 20:47

Thanks for sympathy ladies - got her down in buggy for half hour, so major meltdown avoided. She still needed about 20 mins to settle in her cot at bedtime, just gritted my teeth and got on with cooking a fab (if I do say so myself) butternut squash & sage risotto - must be the first non ready meal I have cooked in months, as dh does most of the proper cooking .

With you on the lack of underwire thing - I'd just about forgotten that underwire bras existed - wow that will be a weird feeling getting one of those on again for the first time.

Lots of MN time tonight as dh is watching the footie . I always used to protest at this but I have given up actually watching telly properly as I have the attention span of a goldfish these days.

Good luck indeed with ds's injections tomorrow Jonah. Reminds me I need to book dd's soon.

Question for all Junies, are there any of you in or near nottingham?

MrsWednesday · 07/09/2005 21:13

Another one missing my underwired bras! It's a cruel trick of nature, I've suddenly got much bigger boobs but because of bra restrictions they just look wide and saggy. I feel very matronly. And DH isn't allowed to touch them either as I feel they are mauled enough by DS2

Mandymac, I've had two days of similar nap experiences as you. Yesterday the only thing that worked was putting DS2 on my bed, turning the radio on (loudly) and doing a load of ironing whilst singing. He soon dropped off (must like the noise). Today I had to lie down with him and go to sleep myself before he'd take the hint I really should try and sort out a proper nap schedule for him but with DS1 around it's proving difficult. He doesn't like it when DS2 is asleep, he feels like he has to wake him up, and we're also out and about a bit too much to stick to regular nap times. How do other mums of two/three cope on the nap front?

Jonah, the hungry caterpillar is fine, for some reason it's just the Mr Men that do my head in Good luck with the injections tomorrow. DS2 has got his on Monday (bad mummy forgot to book him in so they are nearly two weeks late )

Early night needed here, DS2 was wide awake at 5am so I took him downstairs where he played quite happily on his baby gym, then did an enormous poo and immediately afterwards fell asleep. Put him to bed at 6.15 and at 6.18 DS1 started shouting for more milk. Arrrrrrgh.

Lippy and Lummox - haven't tried an organic box but earlier this week DH made the momentous decision to get an allotment!! So we will probably be inundated with veg next year...I'll be able to post some to you both!

Coop, hope you have a better night tonight.

Right, really must be off. Sleep well.x

teabelly · 07/09/2005 21:18

Hi there Mandy - my dh is watching the footie too ... I would normally watch too but going by England's last performance I'm giving it a miss and moonlighting on here whilst supposed to be ebaying - have seen a new buggy I want so have been ordered to sell at least 2 of my existing collection before I can buy it!

Have you tried putting dd into a sling? works almost all of the time with my dd if she's getting sleepy but resisting . Otherwise just go with the flow...one day of napping later and therefore going to bed abit later is fine, especially if it saves your sanity (and I know just what you mean about things being so important when they're not really in the whole scheme of things!)

Your dinner sounds lovely...absolutely lurve butternut squash roasted in the oven and then served with a chilli-con-carne or added to a risotto, mmmmmm ...feeling all hungry again now!

Jonah - good luck with the jabs tomorrow

EYM - LOL 'doesn't do what it says' he he he

...right will get back to doing my ebay write-ups...or maybe just surf for more buggies

katzguk · 07/09/2005 21:21

mandymac - i'm in sheffield not too far from nottingham. Maybe we could have another northern meet up in Sheffield, The winter gardens near the station are great fun you toddlers or there are lots of places to eat

teabelly · 07/09/2005 21:26

Hi Mrs W x-posts there

Know what you mean about the Mr Men - we have the whole library so feel very very sorry for us ...actually poor dh has to do the Mr Men books - I get away with 'Bee's Scarf' which is very very short! Although I must admit that after a month of reading it I'd have thought ds would be bored of it!

Re coping with two - I do it very badly . I have the same problem ds always waking dd up whenever she finally drops off, so I've taken to going out alot so that she can sleep in her buggy whilst we (ds and I) do the farm/park/tea shop...I don't really follow a nap routine, just let dd sleep whenever, but try and keep her awake from about 4 pm onwards - which is easy so far...just go home and let ds run around like a looney ...I find that so long as she's been awake for a good 3 hours she goes down fine after her bath...and following a bath, milk, bed routine for a week or two has probably helped her more than anything else They like routines bless.

Hope you have a longer lie in tomorrow, x

MrsWednesday · 07/09/2005 21:32

Tea, you have my sympathy on the Mr Men library. I shall deny they exist if DS1 ever asks me

Glad I'm not the only one with the nap problem - that's pretty much what I do with DS2, just let him sleep when we're out and about. I thought DS1 would like it when his brother was asleep, he'd have a bit more of my attention but obviously a 3 month old baby is more exciting than mummy.

Mandymac, forgot to answer your question - I'm in Leeds. Shall I start a meet-up thread to see who's around for another northern one? I've never started a thread before so bear with me...

MrsWednesday · 07/09/2005 21:39

Ok here you go

Northern meet-up thread

My first ever thread!

Now I'm going to give myself a stern talking to and send myself to bed, it's far too late for me to still be on here

katzguk · 07/09/2005 21:40

i've posted on your lovely new thread

mandymac · 07/09/2005 21:52

Oh dear - dh's will be in v bad moods looking at how footie is going. There has been lots of swearing from the farside of the sofa round our house tonight.

Katz, Sheffield really not V.Far, I have yet to venture on train with dd, so that could be a big adventure for us. DH used to DJ in Sheffield a few years ago at a club called The Unit at a night called 'All Points North' and many years ago at the Leadmill, he also guested a few times at a night called 'Old Skool'. I really like Sheffield, in my clubbing days we had some good nights out there. Oh yes also poked our noses into Gatecrasher once, as mate of DHs was djing there, but a bit too full on for us even then. By the way, I am not a young thing, just carried on clubbing and living the life of riley for far too long, hence am now an old first time mum instead of oldest swinger in town. .

Tea, recipe for squash risotto on bbc site. Can't do links or would post it, but comes up if you recipe search butternut squash. Haven't really got to grips with sling, always seems such a palavar to get dd into it .

Mrs W - would love to try ironing & singing trick, but do I really have to do the ironing bit for it to work .

katzguk · 07/09/2005 21:55

mandymac - we tended to club at the union although i did go to kingdom once!! we also ventured down to the leadmill. but i have to say i've not been clubbing for a long while! probably around 4 years (ahhh i'm old!!)

katzguk · 07/09/2005 21:55

i've been to manchester on the train with DD2 and it wasn't too bad

mandymac · 07/09/2005 22:00

We will give the train a try then and try and make northern meetup.

Off to bed now

Night Night all - wishing you good nights!

sfxmum · 07/09/2005 22:05

evening ladies
only able to post at this late hour and pretty annoyed about that too you see ...

  • boss sent me email 'if i could possibly sort out some paperwork, in my own time but its urgent {angry} you see an inspection is due and my replacement is overwhelmed and there is sooo much to do' well!! and i am here twiddling my tumbs {angry} so, stupid that i am i did it. i really want to take advantage of flexible working when i go back, the company is good about that and has good policies but i feel like i should do what i can to create good will, but still fuming
  • sorry about outburst.

on the plus side my angel monkey has been rather angelic today, and dh has been very good too.
he is generally lovely and does his share, only he has a knack for saying the most inappropriate things at the most ill judged times. as evidenced by the growing number people who no longer talk to us, still that can be helpful some times

welshie- i know its not to everyones taste but have you considered nice trousers with semi fitted embroidered/ beaded tunic type thing, well accessorised looks smart and is hoickable

night all dead tired going to bed thinking of nice bras and veg boxes (and cursing boss)

eastyorksmum · 07/09/2005 22:24

Evening mums hugsss

Mandy very funny posts lol im gald you settle your dd eventually you do have to go with the flow somrtimes.

mandymac · 08/09/2005 08:45

Morning Junies

My quest for a daytime routine continues, with me up at 6.45am and dd up at 7am. Managed to keep her awake for hour and a half (poking her with big pointy stick) . Have just popped her in cot and after 5 mins of very poor quality low level whinging - silence! So in true Gina fashion I am now off to sterilise stuff - aargh! Or maybe I'll just put feet up, stuff a cadburys mini roll down and keep surfing mumsnet - choices, choices........

SFX - Can't believe your work had the front to do that to you - I would have been livid, but would have done it too for much the same reasons, but still - the cheek!

welshmum · 08/09/2005 09:16

Hello Junies - I so miss nice bras too - Lord knows what my size wil be when I get back to normal. Went from 36C to 34E last time - wierd.
Thanks for the suggestion SFX - might have another go at clothes shopping later this morning. It's such a public statment 'Here I am, I've had a baby and I haven't turned into a blobby mess (at least not at the front of church!)'
I'm in a v good mood re the nights - apologies if this is annoying but ds went to bed at 7pm - then after a bit of yelling slept until after 1am - 6 hours!!! Fed then slept til 5am then more sleeping until 7am. I'm so happy as we are miles away from last week's situation of feeding every 1 -2 hours in our bed.
I'm going to ring sleep lady this morning and ask her about day time sleeping so I'll pass on what she says if it sounds useful.
Another good thing has also happened - dd has got into the local ballet class. We've been on the waiting list for ages - she is so excited and keeps asking 'how many sleeps until ballet class starts' V sweet.

bubbaloo · 08/09/2005 09:29

Jonah-Good luck, hope the jabs go ok.

SFX-Grrr at your boss.I would also be fuming-definately out of order! Saying that,I'm in contact with my boss but that's beacause we're good friends and always texting each other.

Also haven't been clubbing in ages.Think at the ripe old age of 32,I'd feel very old amongst all the teenagers-ha ha!!

Mandy-a mini roll sounds nice.I've already had some chocolate cake this morning.

Welshie-great news on the sleep front,I'm really pleased for you.Bet your Dd is so excited about ballet lessons, bless her.

Well,I spent most of last night trying to post a piccie of Ds in the member profiles bit,and have finally done it! Couldn't work out how to downsize, then made the piccie too small-so frustrating. With the help of Mumsnetter Flossam it's there,if anyone wants to have a look at him laughing.

sfxmum · 08/09/2005 10:23

morning ladies
able to do that when not punching keyboard

anyhow hope you all had ok nights. dd was moving about at 3am with mouth open, popped her on the boob and she was ok until 7.30, dont think she actually woke up.

just got her down for nap but can hear her sucking fingers already, lets see if she settles herself again.

welshie- good on sleep thing. happy to hear ideas on daytime naps.

re; weaning apparently dh eating eggs by this time(?) think i will take my time.
cant remeber who was saying that child keep looking intently when they are eating. dd does the same, i keep telling her look broccoli lovely!
also that thing about 10min or so on each breast, well, nigh impossible with dd sometimes all gone in a flash, sometimes she pauses between gulps to chat up at me, sometimes she refuses one of the breasts, i mean really as long as they getting what they need who cares.

oh oh nap did not take long, less than 15 min...
but its anice sunny day so a walk is in order usually knocks her out.

eastyorksmum · 08/09/2005 11:39

Morning mums hugss

well william slept better last nite woke at 1 am and 3am but then slept until 7 so i feel as if ive slept hubby looked better to, and this morning william has slept 8 till 10 30.

Its a bit overcast here but hopefully will brighten up later as i have to go to family planning so different these days.

Jonah good luck with injections today, william had his fist lot on monday is a bit snuffly but was fine with them.

Welshie on the bra front i so miss the udnerwires too and the pretty bras grrrr need to get measured up again i too went up to size 38 E from 36D.

Cooperoo · 08/09/2005 15:08

Hello all
No time for another mammoth posting today .
DD up alot last night again and I think part of it is that she is getting cold in the night. Is still v hot here so she is only in a vest and no covers when she goes down and then I put a sheet on but she kicks it off straight away no matter how tight I do it. Def too hot for her grobag though. Thinking of putting a sleepsuit on when we go to bed tonight to see what happens. Spoke to other babymums here at a group on Monday and they said their lo's were just in nappies at night so I don't know really.
Had a hopeless day, got out of the house by 0845 but downhill from then. DD2 struggling to feed again due to feeding all night and so boobs bursting again and flooding her out making her choke and fling her head back of the boob while arching and crying. Exposed me several times at our babysitting circle meeting and so I gave up only to realise that I was SOAKED in milk all over my top, bra and skirt so had to walk with muslin draped strategically till it dried. Then took dd1 to toddler group where dd2 and I had same feeding problem and then dd1 wet on the floor and one of the other mums had to tell me . dd2 then threw up all over me and I decided it was definately time to go home. DH had been a darling and dropped off our post (it all goes via his work) and I had some parcels from Next but over half my stuff was delayed and they put on two delivery notes that a vest top had been sent that never arrived .
On a good note dd2 had two very good feeds off both boobs (I only ever feed one boob at a time, is this odd??) once we were home.
I was VERY hot and bothered by then and so had a shower to cool off and then DH arrived home to tell me I had 5 mins before beauticians appt which I had completely forgotten about.
I can't help but to take it personally when poor dd1 has accidents, like I am failing as a mum! (not a message I pass on to her I hasten to add). She is brilliant in the house and I know her accidents whilst out are down to BOTH of us being distracted so I miss the signs and she doesn't want to ask. This coupled with my total failure to feed dd2 while out and about today and her constant waking last night has just about finished me off so this is a very me me me post.
I am OK now though as dd2 is asleep and DH is home. We are having pork chops, salad and CHIPS for tea and I can't wait esp as DH is doing it hooray!
Had a scary moment today though as I came in to find dd2 with a tiny bit of banana on her lips Aaaaaargh! DD1 had thought it would be nice to share! I swear I was out of the room for seconds! I am sure I got it all away from her but what a nightmare. She also rolled onto her side today (I missed it , just found her there) so there is no leaving her now.
DD2's naps are not regular here. I know what you mean about the older sibling wanting the baby awake all the time. Very unexpected and a PITA lol. DD2 just has a nap or two in the morning, a longer lunchtime one and one or two in the afternoon. There is still no routine grrrr. Must sort that out. Want to get potty training whipped first though. Not sure if I will ever go out again now though .
Take care all xx

Ha, I managed another mammoth post just all about me this time

OP posts:
bubbaloo · 08/09/2005 16:49

Blimey Coop-you've certainly had a stressful day or two! I think your'e doing fantastic on the potty training front, especially as it hasn't been very long since you started it.Also you said dd1 doesn't have any accidents at home-only when you go out now,so surely that's half the battle-even if it is frustrating.
It's also really hot over here, although it's probably even hotter in Cyprus.I've been putting Ds to bed in also just a vest.He hates covers of any kind and somehow manages to "spin" himself round, and out of the covers(also tightly tucked in!)and ends up horizontal in his cot,and up the other end.
Have been into town today to get stocked up on baby supplies as we're going away on Saturday-just hope I dont forget anything.

redheadmum · 08/09/2005 17:19

hi all

no time to catch up just posting quickly as I cook Dd's pasta!

yes, I did go out on Tues night and had a fab time....paid for it yesterday which is why I'm only posting today! Got slightly drunk....and did lots of celeb spotting;) All worth the even greater sleep deprivation the next day

Coop - I'm potty training too...have cheated and got MIL u p and helping me...am dreading when she leaves as Dd having lots of accidents....what a faff it all is, I really hope she gets the hang of it soon. apparently super nanny says never go back once the nappies are off...
