Evening All,

Mrs Wed, lol at your herding sheep comments. Ive been trying to be good with my stomach excercises, but until I stop eating triple portions, I?m never going to lose that last stone
Katz, Sorrento, I am so jealous . I hope the conference doesn?t take up the whole time. Like you say, its going to be so hard to leave your DD?s. Like Tea said, I would like to go ANYWHERE right now, but i?m settling for N. Ireland in October. Really looking forward to it.

Lummox, thanks for the book advice. Ah, Mr Men (reminiscing, misty-eyed emoticon). I?ll be buying some of them, now you?ve put that idea into my head. I?ll also look out for Fuzzy Bee. I do like those toy books, but I can see the repetition issue in the horizon?.

Lynny, poor you, sorry to hear about the impending operation ? wishing you the best of luck for it. I?m glad they?ve finally found the route of the problem though. That must be a small consolation.

Lipsitick, I am exclusively b/f, with an expressed bottle every couple of days. I?d do it every day, but I just can?t be bothered. Its far too much hassle for me.

Trib, big hugs to you, you seriously deserve them at the moment??

KVG, funnily enough, I tried to go for a run on a running machine at my gym yesterday. I lasted precisely 20 seconds . I wrote a big note to self: don?t mix jogging and b/feeding, especially if you are of the ?larger? persuasion. It hurts. REALLY hurts. . Hope you have more luck than I did!!!

lummox · 06/09/2005 19:34

Another great MN moment - I thought I was the only person who found expressing a real chore. Looks like almost everone does. I vary between only getting about 2 oz and being able to get about 6 - never more. Sadly the best time for me is after the 6 am feed, when I am at my most knackered and sorry for myself.

Not sure how long I will exclusively bf for. ds nearly 3.5 months, and am beginning to wonder about a little bit of very mushy solids when he is eighteen weeks. I know this is against guidelines, but I think it might help me be able to bf for longer. Have seen some real rows about what age to wean on here, so know that people have very strong views. I know I'm safe on this thread, though, and would be interested in other people's views.

katzguk · 06/09/2005 19:51

oooo knew i forgot something, we've gone over to washable nappies and one week in alls well

LipstickMum · 06/09/2005 19:55

Hi everyone,

About the breastfeeding. I intend to do it for as long as possible, last time I introduced formula from 6 months, but I wasn't happy about it (although it did make cweaning off the breast easier). I hope this time I'll bf and wean onto solids, plus a little bit of water from a cup maybe??

Welshie, I sympathise about outfits. Dd2 is only 9 weeks and already I've been to a wedding and her christening. For both, I wore a simple vest top with a smart cheesecloth shirt over and also a mini cardi thing..? You know what I mean, like a bolero, whatever they are calling them. but, it was a nightmare to find anything that I could hoick up to feed. I'd try a dept store, that way you can kill 5 shops with 1 stone.

Waiting for guests to arrive...

KVG - yep she'll need her own passport, both DD's have them, sooo cute

bubbaloo · 06/09/2005 21:17

Lynny-so sorry to hear of your health problems.Sounds like you've really been through the mill.Hopefully the op will sort you out,and you'll be back to your normal self in no time. The car is just fantastic-we're both really pleased with it.Only thing im not too keen on is the dashboard, but it is growing on me.

EYM-glad william's jabs went well.

Katz-not too fussed on the shop-I'll leave it up to you, thanks.

KVG-we've resumed certain activities. The first few times were a bit uncomfortable but it's a lot better now!

Well...had great news at the hospital today-the plasters are all off!!!!
The consultant was really pleased with ds's legs and said he doesnt need to see him for 3 months now. We've still got to do the stretches 3 times a day and he's still going to have to wear the boots, but he is so happy not to be in plaster!
Only downside is the boots have to be on 23 hours a day,and he'll probably have to wear them for a few years. Also got on fine at our gp's tonight.the lumps apparently are just Oscar's bones.

mandymac · 06/09/2005 22:11

Wow - busy day for the Junies. Big catch up for me, serves me right for leaving my post until this sort of time .

Seems like loads of us are having a right old time of it with dd's and ds's at the moment Trib, KVG, Welshie, Mrs W - thinking of you all and glad in a perverse way that I am not alone in this - SFX and Lippy, I too was in hysterics last night at prospect of putting dd into cot and starting to try naps in said cot for the first time today. I also cried before dh left for work this am (poor man), as dd had woken at 6.30am and I too was thinking that everything was going wrong.

Amazingly (and thanks for asking bubb )dd took to cot ok and has had 3 naps in it today (half hours only of course)which she would never do in her moses basket and is now asleep in it (did take a bit of crying to get her to settle tonight though, but that seems to be par for the course for last few days rather than due to cot).

KVG - Totally agree regarding trying to fit feeds to book routines. Whats all this 20 mins business, my dd can empty a boob in 5 mins flat when she puts her mind to it, then belches like a navvy (she practically smacks her lips and wipes them with the back of her hand too) .

RHM - Hope you had a good night. How is the bottle feeding going?

Katz - on Italy trip, I missed my work summer conference (which btw I organised!) in Monte Carlo in May, for obvious reasons. Didn't even get to recce the hotel due to feeling rubbish earlier in pregnancy. Congrats on your 7th anniversary, we had ours a month ago what is the traditional pressie for 7th one anyway, anything exciting? all these earlier ones are stuff like tinfoil, balsa wood, etc - when do we get to the good ones (involving Carets instead of Carrots .

EYM - Hope william still bearing up after his injections!

Tea - hope your dd's went ok too!

Lummox - your ds's settling so well, whats your secret?

Jonah - I am also thinking about the sedative qualities of wine (can't be worse than calpol can it [evil emoticon]. In fact practically have to force it down - ha ha ha.

Lynny - Really sorry to hear about your operation. Hope recovery time not too long!

Finally and I sincerely hope I didn't miss anyone this time:

Coop - your reports on DDs potty training are putting a whole new perspective on being a first time mum and making me realise that todays 'problems' will indeed fade into memory to be replace by others, such as comfy lap inducing wee's . And of course the rest of the next 18 or so years.

I'm posting this blind, no time to preview, so excuse any typos etc.

Night Night to all Junies & babies xxx

MrsWednesday · 06/09/2005 22:15

Great news Bubb!!! Oscar must be loving the freedom of it all.

Lynny, sorry to hear about your op. It really isn't what you need at the moment, on top of everything else. Hope you don't have to wait too long for it.

KVG, I've done a bit of running at the gym (only a little bit) and the only way I've been able to cope is to squeeze myself into a very small sports bra so nothing can move!

Welshie, I was looking through the Next catalogue today and there are quite a few tops in there that looked suitable (I'm having the same problem - bigger boobs, baggy stomach, not that I'm saying your stomach is baggy of course ). Perhaps you could have a look online?

Jonah - be warned, the Mr Men books are duller than you might have remembered! I got Mr Tickle out of the library and it was so boring and repetitive I ended up hiding it from DS

KVG, have resumed horizontal activities and it wasn't too painful so it might be worth checking with the doctor if it continues like that?

Lummox, with DS1 the advice was to start weaning at 4 months not six so not sure what I'll do this time round. I think if DS2 is showing signs of being hungry and unsatisfied just by milk earlier I'll start weaning but I won't be in a rush - pureeing food is a complete hassle

Right, off to watch Six Feet Under on DVD with DH (for five minutes until I fall alseep).

MrsWednesday · 06/09/2005 22:22

Cross-posted with you Mandymac. Glad your DD has taken to her cot so well. Hope she sleeps well tonight

eastyorksmum · 06/09/2005 23:07

Evening mumies hugs

Bub thats excellent news about Oscar xxx

Mandymac excellent post well done for getting baby into cot, im thinking of trying to settle william in his cot too as he seems to wake up when put in his moses basket.

Wow running never even thought of that have a lovely park near me so we go for long brisk walks in the afternoon lol power buggying something like that. Hate my wobbly belly and my big bum , will have to perserver maybe start swimming.

As ive got my sisters wedding comming up in Wales
in November. Would love to loose some weight for that.

As for horizontal exercise it was a bit un comfortable first of all too.

quick post nite june mumies lets hope our little ones sleep well xxxxxxxxxx

sfxmum · 06/09/2005 23:20

ladies quick catch, up rather taken in another thread, also about to colapse, one eye open.

pretty good day,dh helped a lot mainly by doing lots of housework and taking dd shopping. bless him

re horizontal stuff a little of the old KY helps, first time something like this
... no not quite.. left a bit.. no maybe to the right.. stop.. easy now.. oh come on not that fragile.. ouch.. sorry not that bad.. well it still works...

longing to go running but avoiding gym, like running by the river and the neighbourhood is ok to run too. big problem with boobs too, must strap them and i need new trainers.
cant seem to find adequate nursing bra am on the large and larger side very annoying hate the way clothes fall with these things, miss the underwired stuff.

mandymac- good on cot/ naps. thinking she sleeps less during the day because i dont use the sleeping bag

anyhow godnight all

welshmum · 07/09/2005 08:01

Morning Junies,
Re the horizontal stuff - not quite....I've got this thing about bfing bosoms....might have to get over it....
Thanks for the thoughts on outfits - I have one dress that fits but it's a bit of a '50s vintage number, tight and completely unsuitable for bfing. I suppose it'd be a nightmare to wear so I better not - even if I got changed into a looser item in the loos after....
I'd like to go running but also wonder about the bouncing boob problem.
Come to think of it all my problems are based around tits!!!
Still don't want to wean for ages and ages though....a mother's lot ay?!

katzguk · 07/09/2005 08:22

on the clothes for weddings front don't wear a cross over top, despite being brilliant for breast feeding they expose everything!! not very descrete!!

mandymac · 07/09/2005 09:31

Morning

Bubb, sorry missed your news - fantastic that the plaster is off his little legs! You must be so relieved!

SFX - ROFL on your description of the 'first time'- hilariously close to mine

DD slept ok in cot last night too, so fingers crossed for todays naps. She is currently on her play gym, poking her tongue out at her own reflection - how cute is that!!!

LipstickMum · 07/09/2005 09:44

'Ola!!

Just a quickie to say HI.

Some of you are SO organised in your posts, you must be taking notes again, making specific references to posters etc. I can barely remember what anyone says and no time for luxurious notes anymore!!

Welshie, don't wear the dress!! I had to feed dd2 in the middle of the service and when the vicar came round during the greeting, she didnt even realise dd2 was feeding

KVG, babs definitely needs her own passport.

Third day of the week and I havent made it to the gym yet, but I am going tonight, dp finishes work early. MTV here I come!

Remember a day or 2 ago I was be moaning dd2 waking early to get into our bed?? Well, since that moan, she hasn't done it The first night she fed at 11, 3 and then7. Last night she fed at 7:30, 2 and 7:30. I think it was putting it on here that made a difference to the early mornings!! Also, in the middle of the night, I was waking her up more to feed much longer than I used to. Who knows if it will last, maybe she's just having a growth spurt and wants more sleep...

Time to go, hope you are all well and not propping up those eyes with matchsticks!!

Cooperoo · 07/09/2005 13:00

Blimey, you lot have been busy.
Lynny - BLOODY HELL! You must be thinking what next. At least they have diagnosed it and there is a solution. Hope you don't have to wait long.
EYM- Hello -Coil here is fitted by gyne at hosp so no docs doing it here either. Still haven't decided whether to go for it or not. I am hoping not to go back to work for at least another three years. We will be skint and growing our own vegetables lol but I have no job to go back to and would like to retrain and actually use my degree when I do. DH's job means we will always have a roof over our heads.
SFX - Bloody men asking what is wrong- What do you f-ing think is wrong Grrrr. ROFL at your horizontal activity description, as Mandy said scarily close to my experience too lol.
Lippy - Just b/f here, hopefully till 12 months as I did for dd1. I have made a decision not to waste my time and energy expressing to try and get dd2 to take a bottle with lots of screaming etc as for us at the moment it is not an essential. I will express when I am weaning to mix it with foods etc but apart from that I guess where I go dd2 goes too. I did it with dd1 and I don't remember it being too much of a problem although there were a few good nights out I missed . Well done on your gym efforts. I am v impressed. Another thing I am too lazy to do although I am doing my 10000 steps a day so far.
Trib - Hugs to you. Have you tried Homestart in your area??? Why not give them a call. I think you need a break. Take care honey
Welshie - Miaow at your thoughts in Topshop lol. Hoping to feed for 12 months as above.
Kat - Hope your conference will go well. You are leaving your dd's in the best hands.
KVG - Glad you are feeling better. This forum is such a form of support for me. I wish I had had it first time round!
Lummox - I agree expressing is a PITA IMO and a waste of my time at the moment as I am not leaving dd2 anyway. Mornings are best for me too but I am soooo tired then. I weaned dd1 at 17 weeks as four months was the recommendation then. Also dh was off to Cyprus and it would be 4 weeks till we saw him again and I didn't want him to miss dd1's first meal. She had a teaspoon of baby rice with lots of expressed milk in the evening after our movers had been in and we were staying in a rented house over night. She dribbled most of it out so it was a bit of an anticlimax but I will never forget it. I took it very slow and only introduced a veg/fruit after a week of babyrice. She was on two meals though by six months so I shall see how dd2 gets on this time. I will say don't rush it though. I was so excited about giving dd1 real food and it is so much work and blooming washing up pureeing all that stuff etc. I aim to leave it late this time for that reason alone lol.
Kat - Which nappies are you using? Glad they are going well. DD2's nappies seem SO much easier than dd1's.
Welshie - I wore a 'posh' patterned t-shirt and skirt to the wedding I went to with a 'posh' wrap over the top. Patterns to hide any baby sick and stretchy material very practical for b/f. Wrap covered dd as well if I felt it was necessary. She was only 2 weeks old and so feeding a lot. I wasn't the smartest person there but I didn't stand out and was comfortable too. Don't wear the dress IMO. Hope you find somthing. It is a nightmare esp with b/f bra straps!!! Grrr
KVG - Yes to passport. DD2 is 5 days old in hers. Ahhh.
I second the use of plenty of lubricating jelly for horizontal activities as the hormones from b/f esp don't help down below IYKWIM. If this doesn't help then do see a doctor just in case. I am sure you will be fine. Relaxing is hard when you think what we went through. Welshie - I wear a nursing bra and pads 24 hrs a day. It puts me off too but dh has convinced me it doesn't bother him. DH is not allowed to touch them much though at the mo as in my mind they are dd2's at the moment and it puts me off . Sorry if TMI.
Bubb - YAy for plasters off. Sounds like you and ds are doing great. You can't feel silly about going to doc about ds's bones either as the HV told you too. .
Mandy - Lol at your dd's feeding antics. Glad dd1's potty antics are helping you see there will be an end to this baby stuff . Yay for the cot too.
Well I am knackered as dd was up every 2 hrs from 7pm last night. Yawn. Even when she was asleep she kicked out and somehow set off one of her cot toys making a VERY loud tune and woke us all up again. She seems to be struggling to feed today now as after all that feeding over night my boobs are now too full and keep drowning her when I feed her so that is making her angry too . Poor love. I will have to express today after all to give her a chance to feed without being choked I think. She is sleeping now (as is dd1 and dh) and I think I am off to join them. Yawn.

OP posts:
teabelly · 07/09/2005 13:31

Afternoon girlies

SFX - LMAO at you description...and if you think that's bad, just wait til the babes are a little older and you're constantly listerning out for them waking and hearing you...'quick quick come now I can hear him stirring' is not the kind of dirty talk we had before kids!

Lummox - I too weaned ds at 17 weeks (actually 16 as I was finding it too embarrassing to eat infront of him, whilst he smacked his chops together in anticipation!). I'm going to be a bit contravertial here and say that the suggested weaning age has changed in line with the recent changes to the suggested exclusive breastfeeding period. Actually I had a disagreement with the hv about this last week . Personally I will wean dd when she shows the signs...not being satisfied by milk feeds alone, waking in the night more than now (if possible!) smacking her lips aka ds, and making it impossible for me to eat without guilt ...if that happens to be around 17 weeks so be it !

Welshie - maybe try Debenhams, they have some nice 'Designer' outfits at reasonable prices...but as Katz says don't do a wrap style top...I had one on yesterday, and lets just say that I'm glad my post is delivered by a lady would be too embarrassed to look a postman in the eyes again, he he he!

Mandy - dd's jabs went fine thanks...and best of all I didn't cry!! dd had alittle howl after the second one, but I'm so proud of myself...really did show myself up last time

Right dd has just woken, so sorry if I missed anyone...off out to the shops and a little bit of mother/daughter/large slice of chocolate cake time coming up , x

LipstickMum · 07/09/2005 13:40

Thanks for your advice Coop (and everyone else) on the bfing and expressing. I think what I'll do is just aim to bf and express once a week so I can go to the gym in the evening. If it doesn't work out I'll stop. But, above all, I'll stop wasting energy worrying about it and waiting for it to 'end', which is a recipe for disater!

Welshie, I agree with tea about Debenhams, it's all under one roof.

I'm not doing the horizontals yet But glad to hear other bf-ers are freaked by their dp touching them!! I am too!!

I just ordered a veddie box, Anyone else get their veg delivered to the door, whatever's in season?? I can't wait tbh, I hate going to the s'market and buying veggies, mainly coz I hate them, much prefer fruit!!! I'm hoping that if they are chosen for me, I will be inventive and use them, instead of letting them rot in the bottom of the fridge, or buying the same thing week in week out (broccoli or french beans)

I'll let you know how I go.

lummox · 07/09/2005 14:18

Hi all. Thanks for the tips on weaning. Teabelly - lol at your ds smacking his chops in anticipation. Think we are getting a certain amount of that here. At first I thought ds was just mimicking (sp?) my chewing, but had been thinking that maybe it was interest in our food. Glad I'm not going mad.

Or at leaset not going any madder than you .

Lipstickmum - good luck with your veggie box. We used to get them when we lived in London. I'm afraid that it only encouraged me to do adventurous things with aubergines (can't think why that phrase sprung to mind!) the first time, and every other week the stuff that I don't normally use languished in the bottom of the fridge until I threw it out. Maybe would have done better if I had had a baby who needed weaning? I think I've read that it is supposed to be good fo babies to try lots of different tastes and textures when they are small.

Sleep still going well since Welshmum's sleep lady! Last night only one night feed other than the dreamfeed. Still can't say that ds is waking cooing (occasionally something that rhymes with cooing), mostly he is crying, but at the moment we have got our evenings and some sleep.

No secret I'm afraid other than ds being a bit older than most of the June babies, and us being lucky.

Only one possible tip - we spent ages trying to get him to sleep in his cot during the day. After weeks of trying we have given up - he sleeps in his bouncy chair or his cot now. This means he spends the two hours that he used to spend crying because we had put him in his cot asleep. Think it may be helping.

Hope everyone else is having lovely weather too.

eastyorksmum · 07/09/2005 14:33

Afternoon mums hugsssss

Wow some great posts well done coops, im suppriced you have the energy today. On the coil front feel like iv been treat like a teenager lol will probabaly have to sit with teens who want the morning ater pill why cant the doc do it, on the other hand hubby has to wait another 2 weeks, dont trust condoms ladies they dont do what they say they should do on the tin and thats another story.

mandy well done for settling baby in the cot, we were so tired last nite i totally forgot to settle wiliam in his, hubby came home from work and promptly fell asleep bless him

Back to the horizontal activities, yes it was very touch and go first time , i think its just the not knowing how it will be puts you of, and of course KY helps.

Tea thanks for the advice about wedding outfit, will try Debenhams ive got a christening first grrrrr.

right off to spend some lovely mumy time with william xxxxxxxxx chat later

mandymac · 07/09/2005 16:14

Boo Hoo

DD has just been awake from 12.20pm until now . Exhausted an entire arsenal of 'sleep weapons' The Cot (new one), A walk, & The Buggy Joggling. I am trying to do the - sleep after 2 hours awake thing and now feel like a misarable failure. DH home soon and I know he has had a stressful day at work, so don't want to unload on him - so sorry loves, unloading on you instead.

I know that in grand scheme of things this is extremely small potatoes, but at the time it just seems so important that the baby goes to sleep (to avert meltdown later). Ah well suppose I will just have to deal with meltdown when it comes.

Phew - thats better! Deep breaths etc..........

Does anyone else feel like they are waiting for a small explosion or something when babies are napping? I sit here sometimes on tenterhooks hoping that she will go for at least half an hour and just waiting for that first mumble of awakening.
