Gordon brown resigns.
So if LIb dems do deal with labour - ANOTHER unelected PM.

OP posts:
patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:26

argghhh - they are now having ...

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:26

Nick you tart

Coolfonz · 10/05/2010 17:26

Bad news for the war criminals though. They will make nasty cuts, the coalition will collapse and the Tories will come in on a mandate to crush poor people into the floor...

ajandjjmum · 10/05/2010 17:28

I thought that Cartoose!!

Is this what would happen under PR? Kids playing games with each other???

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 10/05/2010 17:29

i dont understand why everyone gets i n a tiz about unelected PM's, you dont vote for a prime minister, you vote for a party!

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:29

"Is this what would happen under PR? Kids playing games with each other???" probably yes.

Aussieng · 10/05/2010 17:30

Isn't this just a case of NC putting the cat among the pigeons before the Tories meet at 6. Perhaps the right wingers in the Tory Party are more likely to toe DC's more moderate line if they see the prospect of NC heading towards the dark side...

brogan2 · 10/05/2010 17:30

I think there will be a Lib/Lab coalition. I think Brown will stay as PM until the autumn then the Labour Party will choose a new leader. However, I then think NC will become PM and NOT the new leader of the LP.

And I agree, there was no whinging over AD-H or JM being unelected PMs (not that we ever elect a PM anyway)

IMVHO he is right to stay at the moment until the new coalition chose someone else.

Coolfonz · 10/05/2010 17:31

John Major tried to scupper the N Ireland peace process when he clung to power, doing a deal with Paisley and his wombats to keep his majority. Major let people die so he could stay in power. Utter scum bag the guy...

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:31

I don't think its NC putting the cat among, more GB putting the cat...

Aussieng · 10/05/2010 17:32

And I know OP has already made the point but the fact is we do not have a presidential system, we do not vote for PM, we vote for MP. That is how it is.

And under PR which so many people are clamouring for at the moment - it will always be a possibility tat parties number 2 and 3 in terms of votes will come together to form a majority government - it is highly unlikely to be the case that parties 1 and 2 will be forced to work together in govt or even 1 and 3. There will be no guarantee under PR that the party with the most votes will get to be in govt.

ajandjjmum · 10/05/2010 17:32

No way could NC be PM - he has the lowest number of seats of all the main parties! Surely Labour aren't that desperate.

booboobeedoo · 10/05/2010 17:33

We need a new election... this is outrageous. Nick is being a tart, but his party didn't win enough votes to allow the Libs so much power.

Aussieng · 10/05/2010 17:33

Maybe patience but I think NC actually has more to gain by this at the moment by letting the Tories know that he has other options (GB potentially has a last laugh over the Conservatives by forcing their hand on electoral reform).

Coolfonz · 10/05/2010 17:34

Caroline Lucas should be PM. The only left wing person in the house.

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:35

Perhaps Caroline Lucas should be PM - isn't it time we had a woman again?

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:36

I know, booboobedoo he doesn't have this much power surely

Aussieng · 10/05/2010 17:37

Well their certainly wasn't this much navel gazing about the need for "strong governments" in Thatcher's day grin]

Alouiseg · 10/05/2010 17:37

Borrowing will cost us billions extra if there is a lib lab alliance, the markets clearly want a conservative influence.

Gilts just shanked as did sterling.

Aussieng · 10/05/2010 17:37

there and Doh!

lal123 · 10/05/2010 17:37

From what GB was saying there would be an election (parliamentary) for a new leader and that he wasn't going to be supporting a particular candidate?

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:38

Maybe mandelson will somehow get the rules changed in his favour... and become PM...!
A D-H again...??!!
Perhaps he'll stand in thirsk and Malton in the vain hope of winning there?
(disclaimer - I don't think this will actually happen)

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:40

lal GB was saying that the labour party would have an election for a new leader (which might mean new PM) not a general election.

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:40

"Maybe mandelson will somehow get the rules changed in his favour... and become PM..."

AAaaaaaagggghhhh!

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:41
