Gordon brown resigns.
So if LIb dems do deal with labour - ANOTHER unelected PM.

hmmm

GB is offering sloppy seconds by the sound of things.

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:17

It will def be Milliband. I'm sure of it.

Madsometimes · 10/05/2010 17:17

Oh Nick! What are you thinking of!

Coolfonz · 10/05/2010 17:17

Half of Thatcher's cabinet ministers were unelected...

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:18

But which miliband?
There was a suggestion somewhere that they would both run, partly to deflect votes away from Balls

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:18

I was all set for Con/LibDem

FakePlasticTrees · 10/05/2010 17:18

Brown has just made a speech - guess the websites need updating.

Major won an election. Brown didn't and if they go for a new leader and lib lab pack, they really have to go for a second general election in the Autumn...

I'm a bit about how the hell they can hold together a lib, lab, SNP & PC coallition without every little thing taking massive haggling. at least we won't have knee jerk politics, it'll be lots of doing as little as possible...

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 17:19

(Belle now looking at emigration requirements)

I don't think Clegg know's what he wants. He seems to hold all the cards though (god help us).

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:20

I think this will mean that con/lib dem talks will stop, and the lib dems will go along with labour.
Not sure what that says about the lib dems being keen on PR. Isn't that all abut what the people voted for? But LD and labour came 2nd and 3rd...
that doesn't sound right does it?

NoahAndTheWhale · 10/05/2010 17:20

I think a Milliband. I would start thinking about leaving the country if Ed Balls became the leader.

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:20

David

FakePlasticTrees · 10/05/2010 17:21

what is it with the labour party and picking unpopular people as unelected PM's? Gordon has been v unpopular for a long time, Balls isn't thought much more highly, can they not go for someone with a bit of charm?

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:21

I might go and bet on an october election...
certinly before 2011.

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:22

So how do all the lib dem voting HE MNs feel about Balls as PM? I suppose it means that he'll be leaving education alone..

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:22

Wow. There are so many twists and turns!

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 17:23

He didn't confirm that there was going to be a lib dem/labour government though did he?

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:23

No way not Balls!

Cartoose · 10/05/2010 17:24

I didn't hear him confirm it and I sincerely hope he didn't belle.

Coolfonz · 10/05/2010 17:25

Bad news for the war criminals though. They will make nasty cuts, the coalition will collapse and the Tories will come in on a mandate to crush poor people into the floor...

FakePlasticTrees · 10/05/2010 17:25

Do you think this might be Clegg playing hard ball with the Tories? Publicly talking with Labour to push DC to give them what they want?

expatinscotland · 10/05/2010 17:25

If the potential for this bothered you so much, why on Earth didn't you get on to your MP to change the system?

If DC is PM and then something happens to him or he steps down, guess what will happen: there will be another unelected PM.

It's been like this for decades, now everyone's crying foul.

I mean, DUH!

patienceplease · 10/05/2010 17:25

belle no, but I suspect that this will mean that the lib dems will go for labour. They will offer far more in terms of voting reform which I think the tories won't.
GB going was a big sticking point for lib dem IMO.
The fact that they are no having formal talks says it all I think.
GB has timed this well - he is deliberately trying to derail the con/LD talks just as they mgiht be getting somewhere.

TheCrackFox · 10/05/2010 17:25

I don't like Milliband but marginally better than Ed Balls.

PortBlackandRat · 10/05/2010 17:25

So LD go for the power rather than what "the people" have asked for....

It's all a bit Animal Farm isn't it?
