Pfff Labour are caught between a rock and a hard place. They can't have another unelected PM, but the electorate just won't accept GB.

I heard on R4 that GB lost his temper with Clegg too. Oh lordy.

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 12:26

I feel incredibly sorry for GB.

I wonder if he wishes he had stuck it out as chancellor and never become PM?

Hassled · 08/05/2010 12:28

The losing temper story is hotly denied .

Although, a good shouting at may be what Nick needs. You know when your DCs have pushed their luck so much that you feel they need to know events have Gone Too Far? That sort of thing.

DavidHameron · 08/05/2010 12:31

I think the Phonecall Story is a plant by Murdoch

Nick Robinson on BBC just said "Lots of people in their 40's and 50's like me grew up hating Margaret Thatcher....."

or did I just dream that? Go, Nick.

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 12:35

Hassled - I think the naughty step is called for - this situation is unasseptable!

the lady protesteth too much maybe.....

DavidHameron · 08/05/2010 12:43

Ah. You just missed out the comma.

'Lots of people in their 40s and 50s like me, grew up hating Margaret Thatcher'

Doesn't imply he hates her.

policywonk · 08/05/2010 12:47

Apparently Evan Harris was on Dimblebore - did anyone see what he said?

Clegg hates Brown, that's pretty firmly established I think

animula · 08/05/2010 12:47

Justa - you've cheered me up (easily reassured by firm, sensible tones,) now I can go back to fretting about the onebat scenario.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/05/2010 12:51

clegg, who is for power to the electorate CAN'T deal with brown who is unelected and has been spanked in this election: he has NO legitimacy and NO mandate.

clegg also said that whoever got most seats must try to form govt during the campaign...he can't go back on that!

however you feel about labour or brown you must see that they are utterly lacking in any kind of legitimacy at the moment with brown at their head??? surely?

This business about the tories not getting a majority despite a terrible run of luck for GB, a huge recession etc etc.

Talking to DH, I reckon that it will be new labs lasting legacy that voters have become more fluid and open to changing sides.

When newlab came a lot of the old style labour left and voted for a party other than labour for the first time ever. Ditto they won support from people who were traditionally conservatives.

Now that people have been "freed up" to vote for parties other than the one dictated by their upbringing/area of the country/job type etc etc I don't know that we'll ever see this huge majority one way then the other way stuff again.

DH thinks it's all changed forever.

I think we will also see more people voting for minority parties - I mean teh greens getting in in brighton will make people think a bit...

So bring on PR and let's have a shiny new way of doing it all (please )

sophable - yep, I get that. 'tis hard for Clegg. I just want him to hold out for someone, anyone, to get out there, sleeves rolled up, or otherwise, actually standing there in front of Clegg, laying down the rail-tracks to PR.

It's a very "interesting" chess-position he's in.

electra · 08/05/2010 12:58

I agree sophable - I think Brown should realise he needs to go - people just do not connect with him and that is a problem however much it shouldn't be. Labour have been in trouble ever since he became PM in my opinion and they will not be able to recover until someone else takes that position. I feel sorry for him - it flew in his face.

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 08/05/2010 13:00

But they can't ditch Brown - and if they do, the Tories will be in.

They can make a deal with the Lib Dems to ditch him in the future I suppose though.
