Anxious Conservatives thread!

As the lefties have one, we need one too.

I have everything crossed for them to win, by however small a margin, and red wine and arsenic ready in case they lose...

I daren't stay up as my nerves can't take it. I just desperately want to wake up to a Conservative government tomorrow morning.

Lefties, please don't intrude. I have deliberately started this thread so as not to pester you on your anxious thread. It feels mean and unnecessary to tell you why you are wrong on your own thread.

OOhh the sunderland central result ...

Lolly68 · 06/05/2010 23:39

Was quite busy at my polling station when I got there at 6.30pm but that is probably down to people popping there on way home from work like me.

AnnaSergeyevna · 06/05/2010 23:39

I had to queue for 15 minutes. I have never, ever experienced a queue at a polling station before. I went at about 7.30pm so it could be considered the post-work rush hour, but even so.

Our polling station was split into two sides based on the roads you live on. One of the sides was essentially all the roads on the local, large, council estate which I imagine is traditional labour vote (this is a safe labour inner city consitutency anyway). There was no queue on that side - so perhaps there is low turn-out amongst labour, as they were assuming a hung parliament anyway.

sky news - market/betting exchanges not in line with exit poll. Their predicting more for us and Libs

Right, I've earned my daily fag

StrictlyTory · 06/05/2010 23:41

come on Sunderland!

StrictlyTory · 06/05/2010 23:42

bugger

Alouiseg · 06/05/2010 23:42

Fark!

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 23:42

Oh, conservatives quite strong!

Thediaryofanobody · 06/05/2010 23:42

We're in a rural village too, maybe lots of postal votes? Quite a few families around here are farmers and lots of OAPs.

Lolly68 · 06/05/2010 23:42

Still a big swing though by the sound of it. These are seats that Tories will never win IMO.

BeenBeta · 06/05/2010 23:43

Good swing to the Tory there - even in Sunderland.

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 23:43

mini-swing.

sethstarkaddersmum · 06/05/2010 23:43

not such a big swing.... hell it's going to be a long night!

Cartoose · 06/05/2010 23:44

That was ok actually

Lolly68 · 06/05/2010 23:44

Please let us win at least 5 seats before I have to toddle off to beddie byes.

AnnaSergeyevna · 06/05/2010 23:44

not such a big swing, but a significant swing nevertheless!
Still on for an outright majority.

Thinking of namechanging to annaoptimist

Thediaryofanobody · 06/05/2010 23:47

Right I've jumped over to sky. Showing a phone film of people being turned away.

Thediaryofanobody · 06/05/2010 23:48

Oh sounds like quite a few polling stations have had to turn people away and in Manchester they are protesting!

Lolly68 · 06/05/2010 23:48

Rules are rules though if they dont vote by 10pm then that's your lot.

AnnaSergeyevna · 06/05/2010 23:50

That's a bit harsh lolly. If you turn up half an hour before closing time, then you'd expect to be able to vote.

Thediaryofanobody · 06/05/2010 23:50

In Sheffield the route is being blocked so they cant count it up because they haven't had a chance to vote.

Lolly68 · 06/05/2010 23:50

Oh I know I completely agree but that's what the presenters and councillors are saying! Everyone should be able to vote regardless.

101damnations · 06/05/2010 23:50

No queues at our village.DH and I went at about 5.30 and the people manning it said that it had been steady all day.

ninna · 06/05/2010 23:51

Like some other people, i do worry that an overall majority for the conservatives would be a poisoned chalice. I also feel very worried about the future generally. A disappointing result in Sunderland central. I think my brother and sister-in-law are now in that constituancy. I know they vote Tory as do most of our family.
We are also in a new constituancy. Hopefully Tory. I believe the result expected about 4 o'clock. Hope to stay up.
