You don't need your polling card to vote - if you don't have it, just turn up at the polling station and tell them your name and address. You don't need ID unless you're in Northern Ireland.

More details here:
www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/general_election_faq.aspx

If you don't know where your polling station is, check your local council's website or give them a call.

Let's try and keep this near the top so noone misses out on voting

Sadly the Sainsbos delivery man is not going to vote either. Although I did give him a serious dose of nagging so he may change his mind (or avoid deliveries to this house in the future).

Bump

waswondering it's a good point; how do you know someone else isn't using your vote?

On the other hand turn out is so low in the UK that if you had to have ID it would most likely drop even further as people couldn't be arsed to go home and get their ID

I suppose it's a balance between those two things.

My DD didn't find it very exciting, I think the highlight was choosing some chocolate at the corner shop on the way home.

Jux · 06/05/2010 17:12

If you have to provide ID it could put some people off, though. The important thing is that everyone who is on the roll gets to vote with as little obstruction as possible.

shockers · 06/05/2010 17:36

Our polling station was deserted while I was there, and I stopped to chat to a friend who was helping out for about 15 mins.
Apathy at the European elections means I now have Nick Griffin representing me....

So a huge bump from me!

Fluffyvacuity · 06/05/2010 17:38

Just voted, no polling card, no id. Thanks for the heads up everyone (Although if you didnt want the libs to win then ha!)

Alibabaandthe40tories · 06/05/2010 17:51

I can't understand non-voters either. Good for you HMHB for trying to persuade people!

TIme for another bababababababbabBuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuMMMMMMppppppPPah

You are allowed to take a dog in if you like. But the dog is not allowed to vote, even if they're 18 in dog years.

NetworkGuy · 06/05/2010 18:29

waswondering re no ID and voting as someone else.

I suppose the only way to get 2 bites at the cherry would be to visit (eg with wig and clear glasses) and use neighbour's name, early in the day, and later go as yourself, say after 8pm, with ID, just in case you were asked. If asked, you could at least know your neighbour went in to vote later on and they are suspicious. If not asked for ID, you'd have got away with it, probably.

Also depends how many likely to use your polling station, and whether there's anyone who knows you (or neighbour) personally and might spot a second visit or the impersonation.

schroeder · 06/05/2010 18:42

bump still more than 3 hrs to go

OtterInaSkoda · 06/05/2010 18:48
