You don't need your polling card to vote - if you don't have it, just turn up at the polling station and tell them your name and address. You don't need ID unless you're in Northern Ireland.

More details here:
www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/general_election_faq.aspx

If you don't know where your polling station is, check your local council's website or give them a call.

Let's try and keep this near the top so noone misses out on voting

I was surprised about no id too. DH is unable to vote as he is away last minute unavoidably on business, nothing he could do.

My brother who lives in the same town but has a different Polling Station could go to our polling station, give my DH's details and vote by illegal proxy for DH.

bump

bump.

I always give my number to the teller because otherwise i get the unbelievably active city councillor who works 24 hours a day knocking on my door every hour on the hour until I've voted.

In 2005 I nearly stuck a poster to the door saying 'YES I HAVE' because it was a close call in the City and they were HOUNDING us.

I'm not farking allowed to vote. Some cock up with receiving my registration form. Royal Mail currently have the finger pointed......

So, if anyone wasn't going to bother, do you think you could do us a favour and pop out and vote on my behalf?

Bump

That's exactly it tacticalfloosy - if at any point you have told a party that you will be supporting them, you'll be on their list. Their main priority on election day is to get you out to vote. So if you give them your number on polling day (although they shouldn't be stopping you to ask ) then they should cross you off their list and not bother you again.
On a related vote, if you are canvassed prior to an election, don't say you're going to vote for them just to get rid of them. The reverse will happen, you will go on a supporters list and you will be hounded and inundated with paperwork.

only 1 hour to go....

bump - still time!

schroeder · 06/05/2010 21:30

1 last bump and I'll leave you alone.
My fingers are crossed.

20 minutes to go - I bet that's time to go out and vote.

I was talking to a friend in his late 50s today, he wasn't going to vote as he couldn't find his card. He went to vote without it after all!

OmicronPersei8 · 06/05/2010 21:41

enough time to go out and vote, I meant.
