You don't need your polling card to vote - if you don't have it, just turn up at the polling station and tell them your name and address. You don't need ID unless you're in Northern Ireland.

More details here:
www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/general_election_faq.aspx

If you don't know where your polling station is, check your local council's website or give them a call.

Let's try and keep this near the top so noone misses out on voting

ladyofshallots you need to go to the polling station for your old address. You don't need to tell them you have moved or anything but you will only be registered at that polling station. Call your local council if you don't know where it is!

My brother in law and his girlfriend reckon they are not on the electoral roll because something went wrong with an online form they filled in when they moved house. The council has told them they are not listed. Would they still be registered at their old address and can they just turn up at the polling station for the old address and vote?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/05/2010 11:05

they could phone and ask runout or they could turn up and ask if they are on the list.

EricNorthmansmistress · 06/05/2010 11:09

They should be. You don't get taken off your old address until you register at a new address, or if the new occupiers cross you off. It depends how long ago they moved.

Right, just turn up, your name should be on the list.

Poledra · 06/05/2010 11:39

Aaaaand you don't need to tell the party activists outside the door who you are. They might like to know, but they don't need to know if you don't want to tell them.

Personal bugbear

You're allowed to wear Che Guevara t-shirts apparently, as long as Che isn't standing as a candidate.

Buuuuuuuuump!

I can confirm you don't need your polling card as I wasn't sent one in the first place (have not long moved and registered after polling cards had been sent), just turned up and gave them my name and address. No problem!

Did get told by an old dear that it's "hard being organised when you have a little one though isn't it" - well yes it is but that's not why I don't have a polling card.

Fluffyvacuity · 06/05/2010 12:15

Thank you so much for this thread- couldn't find polling card so rang them, i am registered and we can go vote without! I was feeling really sick that I could't vote!
