Who is your MP? What is your prediction?

Mine is John Healey, labour, and I strongly suspect a labour victory here as its never been anything else.

Who holds your constituency and will they return?

(trying to get away from the depressing threads)

LoveLuton stop posting the same old shite across all the political threads, you ol' spammer.

notcitrus · 05/05/2010 14:01

Keith Hill (Labour, Streatham) is retiring.
It's between Chuka Ummuna (Lab) and Chris Nicholson (LD).

It's on a knife-edge - even Ladbrokes and Betfair are giving them both the same odds! I think if it rains then the LDs might have a better chance than if it's a sunny day and more people go to vote who might not otherwise.

blueberrysmoothie · 05/05/2010 14:04

Sadiq Khan here too. Nice bloke and a good MP. Horrified at the prospect of Mark Clarke. Definitely a big fight though - we have been receiving leaflets from both on an almost daily basis so loads of money must have been poured into the campaigns. Quite quite nervous...

PfftTheMagicDragon · 05/05/2010 14:04

My MP is Julie Kirkbride.

She is stepping down, but suspect we will remain Tory. Am trying to decide whther to vote Labour in hope of shoving the Tories from their long held throne.

helyg · 05/05/2010 14:05

My MP is Mark Williams (Lib Dem).

He only has a majority of 219 over Plaid Cymru, so it is anyone's guess which one will get in.

It won't be Labour or Conservative though, in 2005 if you added their votes together it still came to far less than either the Lib Dems or Plaid got.

AbsOfCroissant · 05/05/2010 14:09

JEALOUS of the person with Esther Rantzen standing in her constituency. I would vote for Esther (shallow), because she looks like my lovely great aunt.

Mine is Frank Dobson, Labour. Been labour around here for yonks, so don't expect much change, but the tories, libdems and BNP seem to think they have a chance (the BNP one's a bit odd, considering how many people in my area are immigrants).

Kathyjelly · 05/05/2010 14:13

James Plaskett, Lab. He's been a good constituency MP as far as I can tell and not caught up in the expenses thing but I think he's toast. The GB effect.

I feel a bt sorry for him (James Plaskett, I mean) but he's a professional politician and I suppose that's an occupational hazard. A shame to lose the years of experience though.

katiepotatie · 05/05/2010 14:13

Alistair Darling - I hope he gets voted in again. I like him

expatinscotland · 05/05/2010 14:19

Alan Reid, Lib Dem.

Hope he gets in, but if he doesn't it will be SNP.

Tories are as rare as hen's teeth around here.

Aubergines · 05/05/2010 14:20

Ours is a new constituency and supposedly a key battle ground between Lab (Andy Slaughter) and Cons (Shaun Bailey). I think the Cons will get it as it requires a 4.5% swing and nationally they are on course for more than that now.

Policy - aren't you going to come back and defend the object of your desires from the accusation he only communicates via Twitter?!

orangina · 05/05/2010 14:22

Oooh, aubergines, we are in the same area! I have a feeling that SB will get in too

FiveOrangePips · 05/05/2010 14:23

Angus Robertson SNP, it is considered a safe seat - I don't feel like we have much choice.

Lib Dem candidate went to school here Gordonstoun - but lives in Edinburgh - I cannot vote for someone who isn't living here.

I think the low turn out of voters is depressing.

BottleOfRum · 05/05/2010 14:30

fedupwithdeployment - I'm in Tony McNulty's seat too! I actually spoke to him when he was canvassing, and he explained a bit about the 'expenses' scandal that surrounds his name. He didn't claim for his parents house - it was his own home. He married his wife 10years ago, who already owned her own home, and, once married, started living with her, although continued to pay the mortgage on his harrow home, and claimed for this as a second home as he was entitled to. His parents moved in a few years later, and he never charged them rent, which meant he should have received 'less' 2nd home allowance. He was a genuinely nice guy, and very proactive I've found. Although I doubt he'll get in, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

orangina · 05/05/2010 15:10

Aubergines, have you seen this?

gingercat12 · 05/05/2010 15:10

I have posted earlier that I live in Byers constituency, a safe Labour seat.
It was bugging me though not knowing who the Tory candidate was. Somebody told me he was a London lawyer, but I could find no biographical details about him on the leaflets. Finally I managed to find him on the internet. OMG. He is in investment banking. In this area it is considered fighting talk, no wonder he just smiles and says nothing. He has a nice smile, but I think the Labour candidate will have an easy ride.

draggedthroughahedgebackwards · 05/05/2010 15:29

Sarah Tether (Lib Dem) who I heart. She works hard for the constituency and is the only MP I have ever seen on the streets talking to people when it is not election time.

Our constituency is merging with the neighbouring Labour one. The Labour woman is one of those MPs with London constituencies who claimed for a second home which was the same distance from Westminster as her constituency .

I predict that Sarah Tether will win, based on the amount of posters up for her but there is quite a strong Labour following as well as the seat used to be Ken Livingstone's before he became mayor.

RooBear · 05/05/2010 15:30

mines William Haugue, hes been in for 21 years so can't see that changing!

MrsJamin · 05/05/2010 15:39

My current MP is Martin Salter (Labour, Reading West, in since 1997) but he's stepping down, he's been a good MP, very "seen" in the constituency and was whiter than white in the expenses scandal.

But for this election it really could be an interesting contest- we've been bombarded with literature from all parties in the last few weeks. I'm voting for Daisy Benson, LibDems, would be fab if she got in.

BrownNotCameronPlease · 05/05/2010 21:27

Jeremy Corbyn here to!

Dont like him though!

DONT want him as MP but DO want labour in power! Grr!

becksydee · 05/05/2010 22:09

hey BNCP, what's your beef with jeremy? genuinely interested. he was v helpful to DP when he went to see him in his surgery & he always answers our ranty letters

PiratePrincess · 05/05/2010 23:06

We have Theresa May and her fab shoes.

This area is blue of the bluest blueness in blueville.

I think it will stay that way!

ShowOfHands · 05/05/2010 23:09

Sweetnessandshite, I'm in Broadland too. Was living in N Norfolk when Norman Lamb was voted in (I voted for him!) and also have high hopes for Mr Roper.

SweetnessAndShite · 06/05/2010 13:03

ShowOfHands - I would be gutted to lose Norman Lamb as my MP if I were you. I have seen Keith Simpson once in 10 years of living here and that was canvassing at the last election. He has an appauling record of attendance at the HOC and has never answered any letters (have written a few on bahalf of local playgroup). He is a rubbish MP. I like to vote for the candidate that I feel will serve our area best as much as along party lines.

SweetnessAndShite · 06/05/2010 13:04

of course that should be behalf not bahalf!
