...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

didn't hear joke about "expensivley covered modern chairs" but it occurs to me that LibDem furniture will be like those vintage chairs, covered in modern fabrics you get in Liberty.

taffetacat · 05/05/2010 20:03

DH and I shall be watching C4 in an attempt to laugh at it all instead of killing each other ( he's the Tory one )

Ewe · 05/05/2010 20:05

Dimbleby and Paxman! I dunno, I will probably end up flicking over, it does tend to get a bit dull but part of me feel that the alternative election night is just wrong.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 05/05/2010 20:13

I will be with Brooker - I had the rudest dream about him the other night.

MrsChemist · 05/05/2010 20:27

I can't watch the BBC because BBC signal doesn't reach my house. I have no choice but to watch the alternative election night. I'm willing to put up with Carr in order to enjoy the delights of Mitchell and Brooker.

monkeysmama · 05/05/2010 20:52

It all happens so late though doesn't it. Barking & Dagenham isn't due in until 4:30ish I think. That, apart from the overall result obv, is the big one for me.

mololoko · 05/05/2010 21:00

How I'm feeling is summed up nicely by David Younge's article

Particularly:

"As a young man Cameron looked out on the social carnage of pit closures and mass unemployment, looked at Margaret Thatcher's government and thought, these are my people. When all the debating is done, that is really all I need to know."

It's all so depressing.

at Pfft's rude dream about charlie though

clemette · 05/05/2010 21:04

My constituency announces at 3am. Luckily I have a two year old who has never slept through the night so I am hoping one of his night-wakings will coincide...

After feeling upbeat the other day, am now depressed again by the apathy of the young. I am back at university and many of my fellow students are in their early 20s. Today I have had three FB messages telling me that they wish I would stop banging on about the election because it is so "boring" and "irrelevant"!!! It makes me want to weep.

taffetatactical · 05/05/2010 21:11

Of course the sensible thing to do would be to go to bed at 8pm and set the alarm for 3.....

CatIsSleepy · 05/05/2010 21:13

according to dh the evening standard's poll put labour and tories on the same number of seats

i know all the party leaders are saying no deals but really ? i mean really?

hold tight depressed lefties, you just never know

and if the worst happens it'll be a comfort to know we're all feeling shite together

TDiddy · 05/05/2010 21:14

Just back from canvassing my street plus a bit. Safe Tory seat (Douggie Herd's son) so not much chance. Tomorrow will go to near by marginal to help local MP get his vote out.

Pendulum · 05/05/2010 21:20

I'm so relieved to find this thread. I work for a huge company, surrounded by a sea of Tories. I was beginning to feel like a weirdo!

I am a Lab supporter voting tactically for LibDems. I will be alone tomorow evening as DH has been invited to the LibDem HQ (he has done more leafletting than me ) so I will park myself here and drown my sorrows.

InNeedOfAGoodName · 05/05/2010 21:28

Mostly a MN lurker but glad to find this thread. This is the first election where I've actually been actively woried about the result. (First vote was 1997 - Stephen Twigg's face still a massive election highlight for me )

TDiddy · 05/05/2010 21:45

just called a friend in a marginal to instruct him to vote! I wasn't presumptuous about telling who to vote for but I know that he will do the right thing.

MissM · 05/05/2010 21:53

I am actually starting to feel sick.

Latest Guardian poll gives Tories 8 pt lead- headline is "Cameron Eyes the Prize"

On further reading, they wld still be short of a majority, but the ulster unionists would tip them over the magic line.

pffffffffthtthtttttttt

How can I make myself not care any more?

2cats2many · 05/05/2010 21:59

Latest Guardian/ ICM poll predicts a Tory majority. I can hardly bear the thought of Cameron smugly waving from the steps of No10 on Friday, but, unfortunaely, it's a'comming.

animula · 05/05/2010 22:00

Wooh! I would love to be called personally by someone after my vote. which is a bit sad ... but true.

That's exciting.

Glad to hear he's in favour of electoral reform.

pinkgrapefruitjuice · 05/05/2010 22:05

In 80s our dog had a squeaky Maggie toy he chewed on, am designing a DC one tonight...

meandjoe · 05/05/2010 22:06

Oh God my Nanna's dog had that toy. I was terrified of it!!

meandjoe · 05/05/2010 22:07

With good bloody reason in hindsight.

TDiddy · 05/05/2010 22:12

For that canvassing, just got invited to marginal election party! Never done this sort of thing before. DW is wondering if she is leftie enough for me. Gonna buy a flat cap for the occasion.

TDiddy · 05/05/2010 22:14

2cats2many- prepare for the worst...Gordon just started to let rip....a bit late. Anyway LibDems took more out of Tories though.
