...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

Make mine a large one.

mintyfresh · 02/05/2010 20:26

I fear you might be right!

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2010 20:26

Didn't the Bank of England bloke say whoever is elected will have to make such huge cuts, they will be so unpopular they will subsequently be voted out for a generation?

Long term, a Tory govt may be a good thing....

EricPicklesFatNeck · 02/05/2010 20:26

but its not like we have had a socialist republic for the past decade?

tbh i don't really care anymore, i really don't think anything will change it's always the same old same old

Takver · 02/05/2010 20:30

Have been just having this conversation with my Mum - its not like Labour have been great; but the Tories will undoubtedly be worse.

Just to cheer you all up any more, my Mum pointed out that in the past (60s/70s) when Labour have had very small majorities they have been obliged to take more account of their left wing - her analysis is that we are going to get a Cons govt. with an absolute but small majority who will be forced to pander to the worst of the right wing to keep them on side.

The only consolation I can think of, is that next time I'm standing up against a line of riot police, at least the chances are that I won't know that they've been sent there by a govt that I voted for

choosyfloosy · 02/05/2010 20:32

Can't we make some sort of rule that you have to post on either pregnancy, childbirth or feeding before you post in politics? And NOT a thread saying that you're setting up a private sector breastmilk bank now that a brave new era of enterprise has at last arrived and you're looking for supporters to tear down the shackles of EU human milk hygiene standards.

Oh God it's going to be unbearable.

said · 02/05/2010 20:34

There's something very satisfying about having someone to really, really hate though.

allegrageller · 02/05/2010 20:36

it's going to be sackcloth and ashes come May 7th for feminist lefty higher education workers like me I'm telling you...I may try to arrange a sort of mass symbolic suicide

scottishmummyofone · 02/05/2010 20:36

what will depress me most of all if the Tories win is the fact that so many people will have let the newspapers make their decisions for them and are incapable of making up their own minds.

I live in hope though, up here in Scotland though the Tories have next to no chance

said · 02/05/2010 20:38

That's why Scotland must never be allowed to break away from the UK.

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2010 20:48

Oh, yes, siad...I will be blaming all my woes on DC...and shouting at the TV like my Dad it at Thatcher in the '80's.

EricPicklesFatNeck · 02/05/2010 20:49

yes scotland should continue to remain in the uk as some sort of leftist sop!

dh is hoping the tories will cut us loose

SpringHeeledJack · 02/05/2010 20:52

ha haaaaaaaaaa

absolutely what Takver said!

...and if the Tories do get in I will be Switching Off mn for a week after Thursday night and commiserating with my RL fb chums instead. Can't stand the inevitable gloating...

electra · 02/05/2010 20:52

I am very depressed - I think we are in for an awful time The tories are so mercenary and backward thinking.

And people believe in the whole 'caring conservative' bit. It isn't hard to read between the lines but a lot of people don't/don't want to see it.

Molesworth · 02/05/2010 20:55

Will there be a Depressed Lefties Collective Woe thread on election night?

allegrageller · 02/05/2010 20:55

yep Lynette- yelling at the TV will be our only outlet...

I so remember my mum yelling 'switch that woman OFF!!!' at the TV back in 1980.

I hope all this rampant Tory smuggery that has broken out since Thursday comes back to bite them on the bum next week. Nothing more karma-inducing than premature triumphalism imo - just ask Neil Kinnock.

I'm holding out for there being a hung parliament, with DC and Boy George massively screwing things up, Murdoch turning against them then a second election within 12 months with the Tories not getting into power again for that promised generation.

Not too much to hope for is it?

I have a few raging Torie FB friends who will be unbearable, so I think I may give that a wide berth for a little while after Thursday.

bibbitybobbityhat · 02/05/2010 21:14
Sad
Molesworth · 02/05/2010 21:15

I'm clinging on to that same hope, preggers

NonnoMum · 02/05/2010 21:21

Yes, Neil Kinnock's premature celebrations may give the 2010 Tory party a little clue. Who knows?
