...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

I went over and posted it again in case anyone missed it. I am genuinely interested by what DC supporters think.

Ewe · 05/05/2010 14:18

I suspect they don't care Beach, I went to Tory party conference in Brighton in Feb and asked several people about policies that benefit rich and take from the poor, IHT, incentivising marriage etc. Nobody could answer with anything approaching a rational argument, if it doesn't impact them negatively it doesn't matter.

elkiedee · 05/05/2010 14:27

re the Billy Bragg tapes, sadly Bragg has announced he's voting Lib Dem, and not just tactically this time either (he lives in Dorset in a place where not many people vote Labour).

theyoungvisiter · 05/05/2010 14:55

gosh yes - had forgotten that.

Ok, ejecting "The Great Leap Forward". What shall we put on next?

Highlander · 05/05/2010 15:07

I'm a die hard socialist, who has votede Lib Dem all my life; political reform has always been my beef.

A labour/lib dem coalition is something I dream about, but I fear vioting libdem simply puts them in bed with the tories.

My neighbour is our local labour candidate. She's really nice.....

Highlander · 05/05/2010 15:09

I do think Gordon Brown is the only leader who has a vague idea what it's like to come from a modest (financially-speaking) family.

heidipi · 05/05/2010 15:09

I think we're going to have to get rid of the telly for the next few years. I can just about bear Cameron's voice on the radio but his smug pink smug shiny ham face just enrages me.

He's a robot made of ham (c. Caitlin Moran in the Times - she's got it so right).

And why is Phillipa Stroud and her 'cure' for homosexuality not splashed all over the news as the scandal that it should be for the Tories - how have they managed to keep this quiet??!

Oh god I'm so depressed.

Any dp's oldest friend from school has joined the BNP. What a c@ck, but at least I've got an excuse for avoiding him from now on.

OK let's just get it over with now please...

GetOrfMoiLand · 05/05/2010 15:18

I agree totally Highlander.

I am liking all the ham/gammon face references on this thread.

Shocking thing on the 'who is your MP thread' is the fact that tory 90s throwbacks such as Peters Lilley and Bottomley are still around. Dear god.

ImSoNotTelling · 05/05/2010 15:25

Great johann hari link. Am really depressed now though.

It just makes you sick, doesn't it.

ArcticRoll · 05/05/2010 15:47

Agree hedipi re why the Phillipa Stroud story is not leading story esp when you compare it to news coverage over bigotgate- interesting feature here

Molesworth · 05/05/2010 16:05

He doesn't even look like nice ham, does he. More like the 'ham' that comes with those heinous lunchables.

Meh

MrsFlittersnoop · 05/05/2010 16:10

I was going to post a link to the Jonathan Hari article but this thread is moving so quickly I was beaten to it!

Anyone considering tactical voting to keep out the Tories - in today's Indie there is an interesting list of constituencies where this might be worthwhile.

Am feeling DOOMED already. DH and I are self-employed, business is extremely slack and we are dependent on the maximum amount of WTC. I will be 50 next year and have a very elderly mother and a young teenage son recently diagnosed with SN to care for. I have just been offered a place at University (re-training for a new career to see me through to retirement) which we can just barely afford for me to accept, provided I can claim certain grants and bursaries. If any of these are cut over the next 3 years we will be stuffed.

Care and provision for the elderly and disabled will be extremely high up on my list of concerns for the next few years .

Molesworth · 05/05/2010 16:10

GAH @ the sight of Dave on BBC News channel bleating on about a conservative government "ROLLING UP ITS ermine trimmed SLEEVES" on Friday morning

Ewe · 05/05/2010 16:31

Yet another story about a Tory PPC that has been buried by CCHQ.

I am so frustrated with the press!

RedRedApples · 05/05/2010 17:34

just popping on to twirl about in my new name

wheeeee!

Anyway I'm convinced that Toryboy will not get the magic 300 seats...or 321...or whatever number it is due to the vaguaries of the system

Maybe I should re re change my name to BlankDenial? Or shall I baggsie that for 3.00am Friday?

Twiiiiirl!

Molesworth · 05/05/2010 17:42

Fennel's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyr'd veg
And ere their bulbs grew limp and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high,
Within its shade we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the fennel flying here.

KeeptheRedFennelFlying · 05/05/2010 17:54

My own anthem.

Preens.

tittybangbang · 05/05/2010 18:00

Can I join you peeps?

I'm shitting myself at the thought of a Tory government.

TheFirstLady · 05/05/2010 18:30

Finally got around to joining Twitter so I can follow the election on it tomorrow night - just registered as LadyGlencora in case anyone wants to add me to theirs. Can anyone suggest any good political Twitterers to add - atm I have Mumsnet Towers and Sarah Brown?

WilfSell · 05/05/2010 18:35

MTuckerNo10 (or summat like that) is v funny. As is DrSamuelJohnson
