...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

ah well 100, that is obviously why I am in such turmoil. As i don't hit my 40s until two weeks after polling day....

ahundredtimes · 05/05/2010 13:15

Ah the idealism of youth ellie

mrsruffallo · 05/05/2010 13:17

She left a legacy that will scar our country for decades to come though, Kathy

Kathyjelly · 05/05/2010 13:17

Molesworth, that's like condemning half of Europe for the happenings of the 1940s. Things change.

Molesworth · 05/05/2010 13:18

The values of the conservative party haven't changed. Read that article about the tories' model of 'compassionate conservatism', Hammersmith & Fulham council. And weep.

GetOrfMoiLand · 05/05/2010 13:23

I think you have to recognise the history of each political party. Of course a government of 2010 is not going to exactly replicate one of 1960s, 1980s whatever. But you have to recognise and acknowledge what has gone before, and how that has shaped the party which you support today.

To me (and I mean no offense^) the tory party is a raddled old whore who has peddled the same old selfish bile for over 300 years.

ZephirineDrouhin · 05/05/2010 13:24

So how have the Tories changed, KathyJelly. What is it in their manifesto that has convinced you?

ZephirineDrouhin · 05/05/2010 13:26

The Tories' work in Hammersmith and Fulham in case you missed it.

KJ I'd be particularly interested in your response to this one.

Kathyjelly · 05/05/2010 13:29

GetOrf, so that's calm and balanced then. No offence taken.

Nice to see that good humour survives.

ZephirineDrouhin · 05/05/2010 13:32

I wonder why it is that you just can't get a Tory supporter to talk about Tory policy in this election.

Beachcomber · 05/05/2010 13:33

Hello all, have been trying not to be despondent but would like to join you round the brazier.

God the article on Hammersmith and Fulham is depressing. Would it be too rude to post it on one of the Tory threads do you think?

I know there isn't much point in saying stuff like this but why do people vote Tory? Don't they know, don't they care or are they actually for this sort of stuff.

I am in total denial, I just can't believe it is going to happen (and I don't even live in the UK).

ZephirineDrouhin · 05/05/2010 13:37

It's already been done, Beachcomber. Absolutely no response, so impossible to say whether they don't know or don't care.

Molesworth · 05/05/2010 13:38

I have to confess it makes my blood boil. It makes my blood boil that people are either so selfish or so ignorant that they will vote for a party that cares nothing for the worst off in our society. I know that not all tories are bad people: but they are misguided.

theyoungvisiter · 05/05/2010 13:38

Getorf - I snorted coffee into my nose at your raddled old whore! It was a very unpleasant sensation that left me sore and with a bitter taste in my mouth - much like the last tory government.

If the Tories are tired of being criticised on their record then they have only themselves to blame for being so opaque about what they actually will do in office. Other than raise the inheritance tax threshold to help all those struggling single-parent millionaires.

Ewe · 05/05/2010 13:42

sticklittlefingers - I am ideologically opposed to capitalism and whilst I am realistic enough to realise that socialism isn't truly represented by any party I think Labour are the best we have.

I am an advocate of the redistribution of wealth and believe fiercely in equality, none of these are values that the Conservatives hold near and dear or even far!

theyoungvisiter · 05/05/2010 13:45

God that Johann Hari article is frightening.

Ok - now I'm officially depressed.

[sobs into coffee]

loveLuton - please don't use this thread to try and promote yourself/a candidate that you represent. If you want to advertise on here then speak to MNHQ and pay for advertising space.

We are all perfectly capable of finding out details of our local candidates should we want to.

theyoungvisiter · 05/05/2010 13:53
