I suppose the only thing that might have helped Ann or somebody in a similar situation is one of those personal security alarm necklaces or bracelets.

From what I gether, some of them automatically call either an emergency number or some other trusted person's telephone when it detects a fall. My mum has one but I don't think it is as sophisticated as that. I think you have to push the button yourself and how often she actually wears it is another matter.

I'm probably way out of touch and smart watches most likely have some kind of built in personal alarm feature as well, if you set them up right.

Anyway. It's a shame really that I'm even thinking like this. RIP Ann.

Another thing that I've heard - which may very well not be true - is that house insurance won't pay out in the event of a burglary if you haven't properly secured your home. In other words, leaving the window open is asking for it. I've heard this in France though and it could very well not apply to the UK.

It’s the same here. We were burgled years ago and the insurance company refused to pay out because the keys were left in the locked back door. The bastards hooked them out through the cat flap and let themselves in.

Our insurance paid out with no quibbles when we were burgled and the thief got in through an open window. But that is probably because there was someone in the house at the time. Sorry that happened to you. Being burgled is really horrible, the insurance company acting like that must have made it even worse.

Why is there mention of Ann having a carer
on this thread?

Is that just speculation/misinformation?

Surely it wouldn’t have been almost 24 hours before she was found if that had been the case?

Anti trans people .... have celebrated the suicides and murders of trans people.

Examples?

Isn't it the othrr way round? Kill all Terfs etc?

From what I (admittedly read between the lines) I would say that the word carer was used when perhaps ten or twenty years ago it might have been said that they were a housekeeper or cleaner or home help or something else old fashioned.

Damn big place to maintain on your own at 78. Or any age for that matter. She would have had to had a gardener, a pool maintenance person and somebody for the general upkeep.

Maybe the person was interviewed and asked how they would like to be referred to and said, "Carer."

Most break ins are in the day when it’s assumed people are at work. If she’d left a window open because of the heat it’s not impossible it opportunistic.

Yes but burglers stake out specific homes to see if there is a pattern in their activities such as leaving for work, an outside activity, they will watch them for weeks sometimes.

I read on some pop up newsfeed a man in hiking clothes was seen entering her house late at night. Dont know if thats at all reliable though.

Doesnt fit the timeline from her work reports.

She was in communication with them around lunchtime. Then wasnt.

Liklihood, if accurate, thats the timeframe of the incident. Although, I guess, someone could have returned to the scene or simply went the wrong way for camping and turned in her drive.

Which fictional detective would you bring in? Miss Marple, Ironside, Inspector Morse, Poirot? I like the French detective Maigret. A few puffs on his pipe and he would have his man.

Insensitive!

Supposed to be on Matt Alwright’s show on a video call at 1pm. She did a video interview on Talk tv around 8am.

Also police must have got the video doorbell evidence, From the photos of the forensics team attending her home- there is one there

I wondered that too 🤔

Paul2023 · 11/07/2026 21:01

What happened to humanity ? I don’t care what political beliefs or religious beliefs Ann had. It would be horrifying for anyone to die that way.

What type of human beings celebrate these horrible events ?

A 78 year old woman was beaten to death in her own home . I’d be horrified if this happened to anyone .

Chenecinquantecinq · 11/07/2026 21:05

I don’t understand why the suspect is not considered a risk to the public. The only possibilities I can think of are she was personally targeted for her political views or she had some sort of doorstep altercation with say a delivery driver who perhaps pushed her. Any burglar who murders must surely be a risk to the public. What type of murderer isn’t a wider risk? It makes no sense.

Agree. She wasn't afraid of stating her views, but gave herself to doing what she loved, whether you agree with her views or not. Sometimes you don't not what you've got until it's gone.

GLOBALBEES · 11/07/2026 21:15

I think they must have either arrested Ann's murderer, or they are being detained under the mental health act.

I cant disagree with this.

No, but Clive does.

I’ll be honest, in the midst of all the sadness about Ann I’ve been giggling all day about ‘Clive’. It really tickled me. Hopefully Ann would have giggled too.

Anne Widdecombe was murdered a couple of days ago, from what we know by being bludgeoned to death. People making merry witticisms or speculating about what fictional detective would solve the crime (etc) should have a really long, hard look at whether they would like a thread like this or the last one about a member of their family.

Equally, reading about your loved one “being bludgeoned to death” - YOUR WORDS that you chose to post here, that no reliable news source has used, is insensitive to the family and friends and a horrific description to use. You also might want to think about your terminology whilst having a go at other pp, including me (I mentioned Clive).

Snooks1971 · 11/07/2026 21:27

Oh also it’s Ann not Anne

Or was someone she knew?

There have been many theories around Jill's murder yet nobody has been convicted. It was never in a million years Barry George, he was just a convenient patsy.
It seems it was a professional hit.
Barry George has never been compensated for his time wrongly served in jail 😡

I really believe she was about to uncover a paedophile ring and the establishment wouldn’t allow it.

@Chenecinquantecinq Because he’s no longer a suspect maybe? The police have presumably checked him out and he’s not a suspect any more. That’s what happens if they get the wrong person.

But they’re still saying she was murdered and they’re looking for another white male who’s no risk to wider public?!?!?

They would have announced either of those things.

WimbyAce · 11/07/2026 22:12

They say they have CCTV but are not releasing it which seems odd?
