Suspicious death, suspected murder. Think there is a press conference soon.

'I can't bear literally anyone in the Labour party - but I'd never wish this on any of them'.

Point made to balance all the comments starting with ' I loathed/hated her politics - but.....' like it's some weird position of rightousness.

A woman is dead & right now that is all that matters....
Jeeeeez - what are we coming too?

Her politics were so heinous, likely steeped in religion I fully understand why people want to point it out.

Here at work, someone said that Patsy Kensit and Felicity Kendal did it as revenge for being eliminated from Strictly. Unfortunately these jokes will go around.

Seriously, what benefit is it to post this drivel?

Agree with @SpaceRaccoonshe’s not wrong.

There we are then...

No idea, I'm not the word police

Odd, as you were acting like you were

It does not say she had a fall! Or that they are investigating if she had a fall.

It says murder inquiry.

Why can't people just accept it? The police believe she was murdered and it sounds like they have a suspect though it could have just been someone seen in the vicinity. We'll find out.

But they do not think she fell.

That poster was responding to someone saying that it wasn’t a murder investigation.

@fiendishandfiery was saying that it is a murder investigation and proving it.

I’m not sure why there are posters denying it when it’s there in black and white.
Perhaps they’re just a bit dim.

It was in response to another post. I didn't make the joke up myself. It isn't even funny.

MelOfTheRoses · 10/07/2026 17:07

She was a "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" person. And I could agree wholeheartedly with her on that.

As I have learned more about politics, I have become more willing to reassess my views of politicians in the past.

This is truly shocking. Thoughts and prayers with her family. 😔

I don't that see how it is worse to murder an elderly woman than a young woman

Well, murder is horrific obviously regardless of age but the elderly and the very young are often unable to react and protect themselves. A 78 yr old for example will not be as able as a 30yr old to run away or defend themselves.

Absolutely and repeatedly posting a link that said the opposite of what fhey were claiming.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 10/07/2026 17:04

Well you have to have some critical thinking which is why you might be struggling.

When a person is vulnerable then murdering them is seen as more unacceptable due to the fact they have less ability to keep themselves safe. Children are inherently more vulnerable to abuse because they don’t have the strength and/or mental capabilities to try and get themselves out of something. Similarly an elderly person or a disabled person might have less gross motor function, less musculature, less speed and agility and may also have less executive functioning simply through the passing of time dulling mental sharpness/beginning of age related neurological conditions.

Gosh. Your reply is both unnecessarily rude, and also, not very logical.

Another example of a man murdering a woman. Another example of a politically active woman being murdered.
Even without the human tragedy there is much there for us to be concerned about.

If it's a burglary "gone wrong" (awful expression, but you know what I mean) and not premeditated murder of Ann because of her views, then the politically active bit isn't relevant and would not be the same as Jo Cox (for example).

I have already seen Reform supporters using this on social media to demand the Government now provide security to Farage. The poor woman's barely cold.

The poster who posted the link isn’t denying that there’s a murder investigation. Did you read the chain of posts?

We all know you didn't make it up. We all know it isn't funny. I still say, what's the point of posting it? In response to something else is rubbish.

Totally agree. The bile and hate that has been spewed by some online is appalling.
She had her opinion yes but was able to debate politely unlike many of her opponents.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 10/07/2026 17:10

I watched her on Jeremy Vine a lot, and I found her entertaining. I find Jasmine-Alibi Brown amusing. I disagree with both of them. RIP Ann.

I’m no farage supporter but I think that’s fair till they know/

I'm not sure what point you think you're actually making?

I would very much hope that, if something awful like this happened to someone on the left of British politics, it would be rightly condemned by people across the political spectrum. And I would have no issue at all with people on the right pointing out that they didn't share the victim's views but condemned the violence regardless.

I knew Jo Cox quite well at university and I was devastated to hear of her death. It was actually very reassuring to hear the condemnation from people who clearly didn't share her politics but were capable of recognising her humanity regardless.

Nope, definitely not. Just having a laugh at the phrase 'bloody decorum' 😁

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/07/2026 17:12

There was much Anne Widdecombe stood for that I didn’t agree with. However, one thing I think we can all agree on is that nothing she said or did could ever justify or diminish the seriousness and horror of the crime that may have been committed.

Surely if reform are demanding Nigel has more security then they are implying this was political?

Let’s have one thing we don’t make about Nigel Farage this week.

It's not often that news shocks me but I genuinely did a double-take when I saw this news.

Ann Widdecombe seems such an unlikely murder victim.

Deepest sympathies to her loved ones.
