KS's performance in PMQs must have been the last straw.

Huge crisis for the Government IMO. I don't see how Carns could accept the job, as he's squarely behind the need for additional defence spending. Heads have to roll in the Treasury.

Coming on top of this morning's argument between the Metropolitan Police, who want to use Palantir to deal with the backlog of admin, and are being pressured not to by the London Mayor's office, it really makes the house of cards look shaky.

Carns has just said the Defence Investment Plan is unworkable. Which is being interpreted as an implied resignation statement.

Patrick Maguire's sources are telling him the Government will fall by next Friday.

There have been rumours for a few days now that the Chief of the Defence Staff might have been prepared to resign over this issue ( cynics would suggest that would be unlikely given pensions and potential for a seat in the HoL)

I don't think I heard or read anywhere anyone suggesting it would be the SoS that would go.......

It's pretty incontestable surely that we need to spend more on defence in these troubled times.

It was a mistake by Starmer to let it get to this with Healey resigning.

This government is absolutely unable to make hard decisions around spending despite an enormous majority. It’s untenable. Burnham will be in the same position.

Tax more. Borrow more. The lions share spent on entitlements. Defense underfunding is just another manifestation of carrying an enormous debt interest and welfare burden, plus we can’t have the NHS deprived of anything, can we, especially since it has demonstrated a complete inability to raise its own productivity.

They will have riots in the streets for more reasons than immigration at this rate.

Agree Burham would be in the same position - possibly even in a worse position as he is more to the left than Starmer.

This is a gift to more right wing parties, at an inconvenient time with the Makerfield by election coming up.

The promised defence spends have been halved in nine months. From £28bn originally, currently £13.5bn proposed. And over a longer time scale.
