Just wondering who everyone hopes will win??

I'm hoping for a Burnham win but as long as it's not Kenyon I can live with it.

Here's the thing - if Andy wins he'll almost certain to become PM, moving UK to the left and causing huge economic damage, means Reform would be even more likely to win in 2029.
So paradoxically, if you don't want Reform government, it would make a lot of sense to vote Reform now, to stop Andy. If you vote in Makersfield of course

NEGUY82 · Yesterday 20:29

Yeah, the last thing we need with more billionaires than ever (apart from early 2020) at the same time we have more food banks than ever is a left wing government.

Our right wing media want us to think they’ve all left, we still have more than we had in 2020.

I think Burnham will win. A clear favourite at the Bookies. I am a Conservative so it will be amusing to watch the Parliamentary Labour Party stand back and watch the chosen few cause havoc.😀

I wish AB had to quit as mayor to run for MP. He shouldn't have that as a fall back if he did fail to become the Makerfield MP.

Same. I also live in GM and I don't want him back as mayor. He's burned his bridges.
Agree with your pp, I grew up nearby.

This could change things if the hearing goes against him so close to the by election.

Burnham ‘failed to conduct full checks’ before lending to property tycoon

Taxpayer funds were put at risk in lending scheme backed by Mayor of Greater Manchester

Yes exactly. Burnham will become the PM, Kenyon won't.

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 20:44

Burnham all the way for me.

This is spot on!

Absolutely right. But the left don't care about that. really. Yes we have their continuous performative whining but it means nothing. And they're - evidently - not prepared to do anything to address their influence on an ever growing reform voting base.

Wherearemymarbles · Yesterday 20:51

Not Burnham. He would be worse than Starmer and Labour still wont win the next election

Sunshineandgrapefruit · Yesterday 20:55

As long as it's not reform.

I wasn't aware of this. It will be interesting and hopefully will be all over the local (and national) news tomorrow.

It isn’t ever growing.

It stinks that Burnham is running purely because he wants to be PM. That’s all we need, an egotist in no 10. He is only interested in self promotion. He is the very definition of smug.

Hoping for a surprise Count Binface win. His manifesto really struck a chord with me!

Oh blossom.

From IPSOS:

Who would the public consider voting for?

  • 36% of respondents say they are very or fairly likely to consider voting for Reform UK. This marks a 6% rise since July 2024, suggesting a growing appeal among the electorate.
  • The Labour Party has experienced a significant decline. 31% of Britons say they will consider voting for the party, a dramatic 16 ppt drop since they were elected to government in July 2024.
  • Three in ten (30%) Britons say they will vote consider voting Conservative at the next election, compared with six in ten (61%) who will not (N/C since July 2024). Reflecting that the parties appeal has changed little since the election.

Binface. Mainly because I want HS2 to be renamed FFS1.

But also because I can't be arsed with a sodding leadership election dominating the news cycle for the next however many months meaning nothing fucking gets done (AGAIN, just like under the Tories) so I don't want Burnham to win, but I also don't want that misogynist Reform guy to win either.

Firesidechatter · Yesterday 21:22

Anyone but burnham which I think means a tactical win for reform to keep him out.

so I hope the good people of makerfield hold their noses and vote for them, one more reform mp isn’t great but a million times better than burnham as pm.

MagicMarkers · Yesterday 21:23

I would laugh if Burnham loses. He has an important job, which he committed to finish his term for. There is no vacancy for the job of PM. He's so presumptuous. Plus he's caused all the extra costs of having unnecessary elections.

Babyboomtastic · Yesterday 21:26

I was going to say the guy who wears a fox costume, but I'm very tempted by binface.

In a labour voter but despise Burnham and his arrogance, and am worried if he gets in. Obviously reform can take a long walk off a short pier.

TheKittenswithMittens · Yesterday 21:29

Count Binface

nomoreforks · Yesterday 21:32

Not Burnham. He would disaster for the UK and Labour. If Labour want to win the next election they need to be less left wing and not more. Andy Burnham as PM would lead to a Reform government.

What was the date of the IPSOS poll? The graph in my link shows support for Reform going up and down in constant flux, it’s definitely not “ever growing”.

TheKittenswithMittens · Yesterday 21:47

Labour know they have lost the next election. Now it's about making sure they are the core of the opposition. Hence, the shift to the left.

Bunnyofhope · Yesterday 21:48

I really don't want him to win, but I think Andy Burnham will win.
