Sounds like she's throwing her hat in the ring.

She says she's paid off the tax she owes and is no longer under investigation.

This apparently means she's free to run - and is going to.

Dim? Really? The slurs against her in this thread are dreadful but likely say more about those using them than anything.
And a taste on what will come her way with any leadership contest, let alone success.

No they don’t - I think we are being factual - has anyone in all honesty ever heard her make a great speech because I haven’t - the fact she’s female and northern isn’t enough - so is Brigitte Phillipson but because she isn’t loud mouthed or left wing or get pregnant at 16 she doesn’t get the attention someone like Rayner does.

I guess I meant who would you rather be PM now out of what seems to be five candidates - Starmer, Streeting, Burnham, Miliband and Rayner.

If you had a vote (ie were a Labour member or MP), who would you vote for, and if Burnham or Starmer, who would your second choice be? (As they might not run).

Starmer to remain as PM and avoid the same situation of revolving doors that we had with the Conservatives. 'Hey guys, we don't like our current leader so lets upend everything and find a new one Sod the country.'

It's depressing seeing so many left wing women on here calling another left wing woman thick

But she is thick.

Yes. No one will be able to solve many of the problems. We need continuity.

It’s ridiculous, I’m sorry sick of unelected prime ministers. They are just as bad as the tories, all backstabbing wankers who refuse to do their actual jobs because they all want to be CEO.

That's not how the system works. We vote for our MPs at a General Election. The party with the most MPs forms the government. The leader of that party becomes the Prime Minister. We don't vote directly for the PM because we're not choosing a President or a Head of State.
So every Prime Minister has been elected, by their constituents. The party choose the leader.

But we need someone educated. As in exams, finished school, can understand maths. Listened and achieved in history so can understand the reasons for ww2 and debate them . Listened in geography and has awareness of locations etc. has a strong vocabulary.
She might be bright . I suspect she is. But we need someone educated.
my 11 year old is very bright and over achieving, but she is not educated to the point she could run a country and that’s how I feel about Angela. Bright is not enough.

I would agree we need these sorts of people as advisersa nd in the cabinet. I would equally say we need more people in government who really understand what it's like to live a different life. The people that govern us do not represent us. So many of them went to private school and Oxbridge. They view us as scum. Particularly the likes of Johnson, Cameron and Farage.
I like leaders with guts and gumption, that have been created, not through privilege and wealth, and that awful public school boy entitlement.

Voting for her because she’s a woman doesn’t make sense - the general
idea is to vote in the best person for the job! …..you’ll end up setting women in the Labour Party back if she gets in!!

Yeah I know what you mean and that’s why I’ve never voted for the women candidates before — I didn’t think they were as good. But I’m kinda done now. It’s not like Starmer has turned out to be any good, and I voted for him! And we need to get past Labour leaders being judged ‘as women’ and just judged as leaders — which every other longstanding political party in the UK has achieved.

Kitte321 · 14/05/2026 08:51

Absolutely not. No way. Never. Same response for Nigel Farage tho.

LizzieW1969 · 14/05/2026 08:43

Sorry, that was in response to @Hallowedturf.

I reject calling anyone scum - but those are just my values.

DaffodilLill · 14/05/2026 08:52

I actually wonder if at times she cultivates her accent, to be a little heavier, to appeal more to her core voters.

It's a common theme with Labour- bang on about your impoverished childhood or lack of central heating (hello Brigit) and you'll be voted in.

But she is thick.

@WildEnergySupplier I think you should call a spade a spade - I’m not into box ticking exercises ( ooh we’ve never had a female leader) or picking someone because you think she would be soft as shit on some people who take the piss. If you want a female leader you had your chance and Yvette cooper was very suitable - she’s Northern and no she doesn’t sound dim- I’m amazed Rayner got as far as she did

I agree. I tend to think it's people either misunderstanding how our present system works, or those who want a personality with soundbites as opposed to someone who can work effectively to build partnerships for the UK and focus on what is needed, rather than performing on a zip wire.

But she is thick.

What about that story she proudly told about how she found and opened a bottle of expensive whisky in Kiers house whilst he was out of the room. She thought it was hilarious that it was a present, from a dead friend of his and Kier was upset about it.
Who the fuck rifles through people belongings and opens a bottle of expensive alcohol? She was actually bragging about this.
She cannot represent our country, she had a nerve calling anyone else ‘scum’ after that hilarious anecdote.
What a twat.

Yeah why not. She's totally credible

She is thick. Are we supposed to ignore that?

She's crafty though, in the way that thick people often are.

GenialHarrietGrouty · 14/05/2026 08:53

No. She has a lot of good qualities, but she is simply not PM material. In fact, none of the suggested candidates are. None of them stand a cat's chance in hell of winning the next election. They should really stop pandering to the media and get on with their jobs.

This has come about because of the results of local elections.

I think a GE is the way forwards in situations like this, not a change of leader.

Clever but not intelligent. To be a credible PM you need to be intelligent.

Name one good quality.

(Other than trying to wriggle out of paying tax.)

That's my thought as well.

If Labour finally had a left wing Prime Minister it would be the first time this century - and imagine what she could achieve.

But the party is too misogynistic, racist and transphobic to elect anything other than a white right wing man.

and imagine what she could achieve.

I am imagining just that, and that's why my answer to your question is "fuck, no".

Sure that is the case BUT people do look at the leaders and decide whether they like them or not. It does have a bearing on some people's votes.
If Keir loses the forthcoming leadership battle I personally would want a general election to follow (I know this can't happen) as the Labour Party manifesto I voted for last time would no doubt no longer remain the same, especially if a Labour Leftie like Rayner were to win the leadership.

ThreadGuardDog · 14/05/2026 08:56

Not a chance. I’ve been a labour voter all my life, but on this showing, never again, regardless of who is in charge.

Maxtheminx · 14/05/2026 08:58

I am a former Labour voter and her being Leader would keep me away not tempt me back.

soddingspiderseason · 14/05/2026 08:58

No. Wes or Andy B, yes.
