Sounds like she's throwing her hat in the ring.

She says she's paid off the tax she owes and is no longer under investigation.

This apparently means she's free to run - and is going to.

I’m wondering who was under pressure at HMRC to clear her of all tax charges, (asking for a friend).
The timing is suspiciously convenient.

It's not what you know, it's who you know

Oh I cannot believe you lot, how can you keep calling her thick! Absolutely disgusting behaviour. You can’t bear to see another woman do well.

It's depressing seeing so many left wing women on here calling another left wing woman thick

In what context? I'd probably still vote Labour in a GE if she was leader. I'm not in her constituency and I assume your question isn't purely aimed at Labour party members.

Oi, Xi - you’re scum!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

No. She is quite dim and is still in the shadow of the tax debacle.

Dim? Really? The slurs against her in this thread are dreadful but likely say more about those using them than anything.
And a taste on what will come her way with any leadership contest, let alone success.

JulietteHasAGun · 14/05/2026 08:40

It’s a shame Burnham can’t currently stand. I think he’s been very good for Manchester

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 14/05/2026 08:41

@ThisDandyWriter It’s about time their jobs didn’t drive decisions or whet random voters think. It’s about time this government realised it is here for everyone, not just themselves, in fighting is the most selfish act. It’s ALL about them. MPs were trying to say it’s for the good of the country! As if. It’s about saving their own skins. The Cons did the same and lost all respect. Labour are just as bad. They’ve fools. Angela Rayner isn’t good enough to lead anything. Noisy left politicians rarely are.

LizzieW1969 · 14/05/2026 08:41

It would be Trump she called ‘scum’, and that would go down quite well with a lot of British voters really.

SunnyAfternoonToday · 14/05/2026 08:42

WildEnergySupplier · 14/05/2026 06:55

That's my thought as well.

If Labour finally had a left wing Prime Minister it would be the first time this century - and imagine what she could achieve.

But the party is too misogynistic, racist and transphobic to elect anything other than a white right wing man.

Imagine what she could achieve? We would all end up with far less money of our own while benefits would go through the roof. If you think Starmer/Reeves have added to the country's woes, just wait and see what Rayner does.
PS where did she find the missing £40K owed in tax? Down the sofa? I wouldn't vote for her, even if I could. YABU.

MentalHealthBreak · 14/05/2026 08:42

Yes I would as she’s the best choice actually and will be most likely to protect the benefits and interests of the disabled and carers

I guess I meant who would you rather be PM now out of what seems to be five candidates - Starmer, Streeting, Burnham, Miliband and Rayner.

If you had a vote (ie were a Labour member or MP), who would you vote for, and if Burnham or Starmer, who would your second choice be? (As they might not run).

I don't love her but to say she isn't bright is wrong. I've heard to speak on several issues intelligently. A lot of people who say she's stupid is just basing this on her accent and background.
I would argue it takes a lot of gumption
and intelligence to get where she has from where she started. Very few people do.

She has no grasp of economics. No work experience.

It's wrong to say people don't rate her because of her accent. We aren't that stupid. It's what she says and does, not her accent.

She is where she is because she is a loud mouth. It served her as a shop steward. She has no experience of working life outside of a union.
Like may Labour MPs she was given the chance of being an MP because she was put up as a choice in a safe seat.

Another is Briget Philipson. No work experience at all except 2 years at Sunderland Council and then helping her mum manage a charity 'refuge.'

They both are MPs where being Labour is a religion. Even a monkey with a red rosette would be voted in.

It's nothing to do with her ability.

Sorry, that was in response to @Hallowedturf.

Not a chance.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/05/2026 08:38

No it’s not - it’s not accent, she can’t even use correct grammar - the fact is she is totally unsuitable ataworld diplomacy level -

Maybe take the time to proof read the language in your own post 😆

Stuckforlong · 14/05/2026 08:45

No way

Worm28 · 14/05/2026 08:45

Surely equality means we are judged fairly on a par with men? I’m not going to ignore someone’s lack of capability just because she’s female. I’ve a lot of time for AR. What she has done after such a shitty start in life is incredible but I judge her on her actions as a politician and a person now. The thing I found most telling about AR was her moving hundreds of miles away from her severely disabled child. I don’t think parents under those circumstances should be tied to their children forever but it is very unusual for a person to be so removed from their vulnerable DCs life.

They would all be a disaster.

I'm not that impressed with Streeting because he said he was standing up to the BMA but little by little they have had the pay increases they asked for (so something is going on behind the scenes.)

I've also heard that the waiting lists are being 'massaged', to become smaller, as GPs are being told to hold off referring patients.

Totalmayhem · 14/05/2026 08:45

PacificState · 14/05/2026 08:38

I’m a Labour member so will have a vote. I’d prefer Streeting, but when the Mandelson stuff happened I decided I would only vote for a woman in the next leadership election. It’s beyond shameful we haven’t had a woman leader yet, and it does (I think) say something significant about the deep misogyny in the Labour movement (which the Mandelson stuff also demonstrated).

I’m not a Rayner fan, although I don’t think she’d be any worse (or any more disliked) than Starmer.

I actually kind of like the idea of Miliband returning. Feels like he has the maturity and experience to actually get Whitehall moving, and he understands the Treasury. The people who don’t like Labour would go nuts, but that’s baked in at this point.

Prefential vote would go:

Rayner
Streeting
Miliband
Burnham
Starmer

Voting for her because she’s a woman doesn’t make sense - the general
idea is to vote in the best person for the job! …..you’ll end up setting women in the Labour Party back if she gets in!!

NeelyOHara · 14/05/2026 08:46

It’s ridiculous, I’m sorry sick of unelected prime ministers. They are just as bad as the tories, all backstabbing wankers who refuse to do their actual jobs because they all want to be CEO.

How low can this country sink?!

DaisyDooley · 14/05/2026 08:47

I think I might buy some euros before sterling tanks.
Whoever gets in - we are fucked.

1dayatatime · 14/05/2026 08:24

For anyone even contemplating the idea of Rayner as PM I suggest you watch this 7 minute video of her trying to explain her way out of not paying the necessary stamp duty on her second home and then finally admitting that she should have:

https://news.sky.com/share/13424273

’id done everything proper’

how can we have her presiding and making decisions for our children’s education if she doesn’t know basic grammar?

patate10 · 14/05/2026 08:47

It is utterly insane that this is even being discussed. No.
