Who are Scottish people voting for next month?

OP posts:
TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 12/04/2026 22:23

I'm aware that the SNP won big at the last Scottish election.

They won't this time though.

talking about money for services, I don’t like the effort that the SNP wastes on their Indy dreams. Yes, I know it’s their raison d’etre. One of the items in the Scottish Conservatives manifesto says they will “Propose a new law to ban the Scottish Government from spending taxpayers’ money on pro-independence propaganda.” I can agree with that.

Sorry. Having to quote this again. You agree with a law to ban the SNP spending money on pro Indy propaganda. Where have they did this?

At the UK election.

I'm talking about the General Election where the SNP lost loads of seats at Westminster.

LINK

Which demonstrates that they're losing popularity and credibility generally.

Ah! Ok.

You’d have to ask whoever wrote the Tory manifesto as I didn’t write that!

Sorry. How did that use tax payers money?

A lot of spending has been allocated to promoting Independence since the last IndyRef.
These show some publishing costs:
31k for 1 paper

200k for a series
https://www.gov.scot/publications/building-a-new-scotland-papers-costs/
and who knows what this totals
https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-202200306332/

These figures seem to be only the publishing costs, not civil service time.

I find myself politically homeless right now. I plan to vote tactically for Labour to lower the vote for SNP. It might prove fruitless but it’s something I can do.

I don’t want Independence, I am pro woman’s rights which doesn’t mean I’m anti trans but I feel woman’s rights are being attacked day by day. Also I work in education and the policies and cuts are making our jobs harder and harder each day. Sen provision and support are being eradicated. It’s shameful.

I am proud to be Scottish but I feel embarrassed saying it because of the nationalistic connections.

26 grand? If it helps I’ll pay it back. 😬

ElliePhant28 · 12/04/2026 22:42

Need to dig deeper than 26k. Think you’ll be out of pocket for a fair bit more than that. 31k+200k+whatever the 3rd link totals. Even you must see the money wasted on papers nobody reads.

Who are Scottish people voting for next month?

SNP & Alliance to liberate Scotland.

I believe that the UK needs constutional reform to balance out the fact that one large nation is able to dictate political outcomes that are not desired by the smaller nations eg Brexit.

Additionally, I suspect that Westminster cares nought about "the regions" except in elections. And I include English northern regions & our Cornish cousins in that.

The above outweighs for me Holyrood's gender inequality fracas.

I voted against Indy last time. Next time I will be voting Yes unless Westminster removes FPTP.

celticnations · 13/04/2026 06:33

Differentforgirls · 12/04/2026 14:34

I’m SNPX2.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that voting SNPx2 does not give the SNP more seats? Which is scandalous.

Maybe I'll give my second vote to Alliance to liberate Scotland.

I need to research that more. It's a flaw designed in by Westminster.

Would LOVE to see Scotland survive without the subsidies it gets from England. We might find those nasty far right parties all of a sudden becoming quite popular there all of a sudden.

As for the election. The SNP are miles ahead in the polls because the SNP can blame everything wrong on Labour.

Which is odd, cos they've been in power for two generations and their only achievement was putting male rapists in women's prisons.

Taxes flow from Scots to London bar the Holyrood income tax.

All VAT, income tax, NI, dividend income, savings tax, IHT - all to London.

Of the above, we get back our so called subsidy via Barnett.

From Barnett funding is then decided for tbe devolved areas of responsibility like the NHS.

It is a critique of the entire UK that HM Treasury chronically underfunds all areas bar London & the SE.

Independence grants full financial leverage. And the currency issue? A country can use whatever currency it wants with the caveat that the issuing country of that currency can push interest rates up to make it hard.

Rejoining the EU issue? Spain has also said that they WOULD NOT block Scotland IF London gave up Gibraltar. That little side issue is ignored by unionists.

celticnations · 13/04/2026 06:45

AgnesMcDoo · 12/04/2026 15:26

Libdem for 1st time

SNP have fucked the country and I’m anti Indy plus all the trans stuff
Labour are hopeless and are fucking the rest of UK
Tories no thanks
Reform - repulsive
Greens - total loons

So Libdems for both my votes.

shame the cult of SNP will continue though. Looks like they are on for a majority

DH is spoiling his ballot and first time voter DS is probably voting Labour

Edited

A cult?

Political Party I think.

The second vote is the more important one. That decides who forms the Govt. Do you know that the alliance are far right?

No, I didn't know that!

I was watching that YT Podcast from Barrhead Boy & saw the Alliance lass.

In that case if far right, no.

Does SNP SNP work? I generally vote SNP SNP..

Income tax stays in Scotland. What would be the point of higher income tax for Scottish workers (above £30K) compared to the rest UK ones if the money would leave Scotland?

Motheranddaughter · 13/04/2026 07:02

Will be voting Lib Dem
I am against Independence and definitely don’t want another referendum
We had one, the Nats lost
My DC are early 20s ,I worry for their futures if we got independence
The SNPs record in Government is shocking

In addition to my concerns about education, health, investment, can I also add in the ferries debacle. I really don’t think that people realise how much islanders rely on these lifeline services. They don’t just bring in tourists, but medicines, transport islanders to hospital appointments, including cancer treatment, and infrastructure equipment.

The SNP have demonstrated a complete disregard for/lack of awareness about these issues especially in light of the ongoing debacle with the Glen Sannox et al.

I note OP hasn't responded to your post. I can't believe Scottish folk would vote SNP after the mismanagement and scandals. I'm in Wales and I very much fear Plaid Cymru supported by Greens and/or Labour will be main party after May.

Yes. ISP left the Alliance because Craig Murray and Tommy Sheridan are standing so there’s only sovereignty left. James Kelly has a few articles in his blog about it all.

SNP/SNP is how we got a majority in 2011 and a referendum!

No.

That portion of income tax raised by Holyrood for Holyrood stays with Holyrood.

Eg Before the Holyrood tax was raised, you still paid income tax to HMRC. You always did & do so now. Hence HMRC sending letters everywhere to all taxpayers in each constituent UK Nation.
