How can people vote Green?

RobinStrike · 09/03/2026 13:09

The Greens are no longer the ecology party. They have been taken over by people who want to leave NATO, legalise drugs and don’t recognise women. I understand the attraction of a far left party but surely the original Greens don’t agree with all this.
Plus they expel people for refusing to recognise some members as fairies?

They also present an entirely different campaign to Muslim communities from what the present in English and the two campaigns are fundamentally incompatible. I agree, you’d have to be incredibly naive to vote for them. They’re just anti-establishment. It’s sad that they have lost their original sole which was to protect the environment.

IdaGlossop · 09/03/2026 13:13

I have voted Green in local elections for environmental reasons. No more though, because they suspended our gender critical Parliamentary candidate and delayed and delayed a promised investigation. The Islam-pro trans axis is totally bonkers.

XelaM · 09/03/2026 13:13

The world has gone mad unfortunately. Nothing makes sense anymore. Common sense has seemingly deserted the vast majority of the population (and certainly mass media). Also, the standard of living has dropped so dramatically that people are just looking for any alternative party.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 09/03/2026 13:51

Not sure if you’re looking for a genuine answer but it’s this- some people have different beliefs to you! I’m pleased that there’s a party that isn’t feeding into anti-immigration rhetoric just to win votes, I support a slow and careful decriminalisation of drugs and I’m fine sharing spaces with trans women. I probably won’t actually vote for them as I suspect I’ll have to tactically vote Tory in my area to stop Reform getting in but that’s the answer ¯\(ツ)

Octavia64 · 09/03/2026 13:53

Well the short answer is that some people agree with this.

clearly.

just because you think some opinions are stupid doesn’t mean others agree

CurlewKate · 09/03/2026 13:54

i’m not a Green voter-but I can see why people like me who want a party with a progressive agenda might be.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/03/2026 14:04

I stumbled across an instagram post praising Zac Polanski and it was such a narrow echo chamber, he’s seen as a good guy sticking up for minorities, no matter what those minorities themselves believe, he throws back any difficult questions with “what about Gaza”.
Its the consequence of not investing in young people in our society, they look to extremes and the Greens have an almost religious adherence to prescribed “kindness” that appeals to people looking for easy answers and villains to blame.

KeyLimeCake · 09/03/2026 14:09

I'd vote for an environmentally aware party. It's such a shame that the Greens are still allowed to call themselves Green. They are something else now - that does clearly have some appeal to some people but not to me.

I would vote Green to keep Reform out, that is the only reason.

FernandoSor · 09/03/2026 14:13

Because our not-fit-for-purpose voting system results in a huge amount of tactical voting. Their policies are irrelevant as they will never form a government. This wasn't a vote for the greens, it was a vote for not-reform and not-labour.

patooties · 09/03/2026 14:14

They are terrible - no longer anything to do with the environment and have attracted all the weird cranks booted out of the Labour Party. Let’s see how they handle it.

The Tories did the same during the Johnson years.

emmetgirl · 09/03/2026 14:16

Maybe because they agree with their policies?
Not everyone thinks the same or has the same view of the world.
Isn't that obvious?

patooties · 09/03/2026 14:45

Which policies?
The policies the ones they keep on the down low from ‘the Muslim vote’ and appeal only to the white, lefty vote?

They have diametrically opposed views to homosexuality, meat eating, dogs, women’s equality, car use and the environment. Both ‘need’ each other to win - that’s the political elephant in the room - you won’t get a sensible answer out of either faction.

enjoy the implosionz
Hopefully they won’t win too many seats or do much more damage before this becomes apparent to the wider public.
Then they’ll need to deal with their membership problems - I’m here with the popcorn.

RobinStrike · 09/03/2026 14:49

It was a genuine question. So many statements don’t seem to make a coherent policy and I just can’t see the Green Party members of old supporting this new version. Yes I can understand people who vote for Your Party even if I wouldn’t but to expel someone for refusing to call someone fae and recognise them as faeries stretches credibility.

I think they should change their name, nothing to do with being green anymore. Completely hijacked by trans, far left, and men. Not for me. I've grown up supporting environmental issues, animal rights etc. This isn't a party I even recognise. How are LGBTQIA+ rights and Muslim beliefs even compatable?

H1ppychicken · 09/03/2026 15:05

I have usually voted Green - not because I have any delusion that they’d get in but to raise the profile of the environment. But I agree they have completely changed as a party and I couldn’t possibly vote for them now. There is barely any mention of the environment in their literature now and where there is there is no sensible or ambitious plan for nature recovery. I don’t think a party should only have one side to them and it’s good to see they are finally forming some policies on other issues than the environment in order to have any chance of being taken seriously but I don’t understand why they are not serious ones and why the environment is now out of the picture. The new MP who was accepted a few days ago gave a speech which mentioned the environment zero times and was entirely a new labour speech copy - talking about ‘working people’ - hate that phrase .. we are all working and those that aren’t probably wish they were! I know I am not alone in feeling there is no ‘green’ party to vote for - none that put the planet first. I have no idea what fairies have to do with anything…. But I might vote for them if they came up with a decent manifesto….

They're not compatible!

Bromptotoo · 09/03/2026 15:45

Not sure the legalise drugs bit is what media etc would have us believe.

SerendipityJane · 09/03/2026 15:46

If it keeps Reform out - they have my vote

(Previously it would have been to keep the Tories out, but they've rather lost the plot).

The problem is if they have more seats than the Lib Dems and Labour ends up having to form a coalition with them. Labour government always have backbenchers who actively seem to want to bring down their own government, and if they can team up with the Greens, they'll probably jump at the chance.

AgnesMcDoo · 09/03/2026 16:00

I think they have become the natural home for the super-woke and ultra lefties.

PurpleLovecats · 09/03/2026 16:02

I’ve always voted Lib Dem but am seriously considering Green now. They really align with my values. Does that help?

Catterbat · 09/03/2026 16:03

For one thing they’re the only party willing to talk about taxing billionaires.

Not sure if that’s enough for me to vote for them but it’s something.
