Is the UK electorate aware that they voted for a Labour government, behind which, is a left wing think tank called The Fabian Society?

TFS advocates gradualist, reformist and democratic means in a journey towards radical ends.

The Fabian Society’s objectives for the rest of the parliament are to:

1. Support the Labour party to win the next general election and return to government
2. Secure the adoption of transformative Fabian policy proposals in the next UK Labour manifesto and in policy platforms at every level
3. Help to build a strong, united and diverse Labour movement
4. Strengthen the capabilities, activism and reach of the society

I strongly suggest that people seek to understand the real influence that TFS has on this Labour government - it provides an explanation for the last 15 months.

I don't think Fabian's are the problem. Marxist Communist ministers like Torsten Bell in the Treasury driving tax policy based on communism rather than what's good for the country is more dangerous.

You are right about the underlying problem, the labour party care more about communist ideas and academic/ideological concepts of fairness than they care about British people and the effectiveness of their policies.

Hot news - a group which were founders of a political party have influenced a political party. Socialist group exists within a left wing group! Your list of objectives are basically support labour. It's not like you've unearthed some shocking communist manifesto. Give me the FS over the billionaire/Russian/old boy network behind the last government any time.

Mind you, if you think the current labour party are very close to the principles of the FS then you've missed something, sadly.

They have such terrible principles as the protection and strengthening of the NHS. Long may they exist. There's a lot of rubbish to undo after the last government.

Slow but at least some things have improved. Better than another term of Tory but not as good as hoped.

This is not news. There are a wide range of think tanks that support one or other of the two traditional government-forming parties, and some that support other parties.

The Fabian Society is open about its aims, publishes its opinions and is presumably also open about the source of its funds.

There's a fundamental disrespect for voters in these type of threads, the implication is voters should all see the world the same way as the OP and if they don't it's due to ignorance rather than different priorities or views.

Voters vote the way they want to vote for a whole host of reasons.

This is such non-news. The Fabian Society are well known and open about their aims. There are several well known think tanks supporting both parties - IPPR, NEF (both left wing) Onward, Reform and Centre for Social Justice supporting the Tories.

Neither party is obliged to listen to those Think Tanks and I think that many Fabian members probably feel that Labour doesn't listen to them at all.

I want to know where these conspiracy theories about the Fabians have come from! For anyone who knows the first thing about them it’s absolutely absurd.

For one thing thing they’re notoriously shambolic so the idea they are an all-powerful organisation pulling the strings is hilarious. They generally struggle to organise a simple meeting (maybe it’s a clever bluff, who knows…)

Seriously though they are absolutely transparent about their purpose and funding which is a LOT more than can be said for many think tanks! And they take their independence of thought from their funders seriously (which again is very different from many think tanks that just let more or less anyone with a cheque book pay for influence).
