If you are considering voting for someone else, or not voting at all?

Well, I don't know. I think we are all here and we need to find a way to live together. Let's look forward.

I'm a net contributor myself, but my grandparents were not born in this country. And nobody wanted them here I'm sure! They had a weird religion and too many children and some a dubious immigration status. My mum was not a citizen. But she worked helping troubled children all her life, she worked so hard, with kids who really had nobody. Was that not worth doing? Where should she have gone instead? "Back" to the West Indies where she'd never been until she was 50? For what purpose?

Definitely I agree immigration is out of control. All flavour of governments tell us all the time there's "nothing they can do" about it, which is the definition of out of control. But that's different to people who are here. Just practically, we are here, we're all people and most people want to do well and make a good life. So I wish we could try to do that together.

If people paid their own way I think that would help matters.

MargoLivebetter · 18/11/2025 09:29

I'm sympathetic to the challenges that the Labour Govt face but I think they need to "get a grip". People can stomach stuff that they disagree with but we need to bring an end to dithering and speculation and be decisive about how they are going to proceed.

All the problems and issues we face are complex and not easily solved. If it was all easy, then they'd be done already. But I think that Labour are so cautious and so anxious about Reform that they are currently not acting decisively enough.

itsmeafterall · 18/11/2025 09:33

Tax the ultra rich.

Stop focussing the narrative on immigration - which panders to those racist reform bastards

Announce an imaginative, brave investment in infrastructure, including social / state owned house building. Like we had in late 40s /1950s ( the country was broke then too)

Nationalise water industry.

Stop privatisation of the NHS by stealth. Actually properly review it and as others have said, think about a supplementary insurance approach as per France so that we can stop it being sold off altogether.

Introduce e a 4 day week to increase productivity and leisure time

Be socialist. As in putting societal needs first and not toadying up to private business and billionaires .

Too many people. That's the main problem. Too many people needing "stuff" like schooling, medical care, housing. And not enough people that are net contributors.

Net contributors are the scum of the earth and deserve to be taxed into oblivion apparently. The resentment towards anyone who earns more thank 45k is off the charts, because some people can only dream of that salary. Hard work, risk taking (setting up businesses etc) , and deferring gratification are all dismissed as luck and unfair advantage. 🙄

Is it really though? I don't find this in real life. In my actual life in the small town I live in, which is not a rich place, I find people are generally quite pleased to meet a local doing well. When I hear about people I went to school with or whatever doing well I feel pleased, don't you? I know online everyone is very angry all the time but are those even real people? I think a lot of them are bots aren't they?

I'm not a millionaire or anything lol, I just make ok money and I've built some successful engineering projects some people have heard of. In our town I've never been treated like scum. I support our local community projects where I can, because like I said we've no services any more so we have to do it ourselves really. I've only ever had pleased thanks about this!

I do feel lucky to have made something of my life. It went wrong quite a few times and I know how it feels to tumble out of the world. But for now I'm doing well, and I do feel lucky and grateful for the chance.

I think the poster was referring to your economic standing as a taxpayer, not day to day interactions with your fellow man.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 18/11/2025 14:50

Kick out the illegals instead of offering them £3K to leave which will only encourage them to re-enter, take another £3K when they “leave” again.

Then cut benefits. That some households whose only income is benefits are better off than households who do work is silliness.

The last Labour government left a note,

there’s no money left

next time it will be

there’s no country left

MissyB1 · 18/11/2025 15:55

@GlobeTrotter2000 For clarity who do you mean by “the illegals”

She's talking about the views of Labour and the lefties. Not normal people.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 18/11/2025 16:39

Those who enter the country illegally.

ViolaPlains · 18/11/2025 16:45

Admit their incompetence and call a general election.

nomoretoriesforme · 19/11/2025 11:03

Cut spending - welfare, foreign aid, vanity projects ( net zero), civil service expansion.

Protect women and children- know what a woman is, no children mutilation is allowed.

British taxes go to British people first- infrastructure, education, child poverty, NHS, crime reduction, etc.

Reduce tax burden - no more stealth tax, double taxing.

No digital ids. The more you police us(law abiding citizens, the more you will tank in the polls).

This is a wishful thinking but I wish they’ll implement the law that UK politicians are accountable for their actions while in power and will be prosecuted for the damage done to the country. That will make politicians responsible for their decisions.

So basically become the Tories then.

Better than Labour. As has become clear. Amazingly.

Yes because a new generation of voters is finally getting a long overdue lesson on why socialism doesn't work.

What are the socialist things that are patently not working, or working worse now than 18 months ago?

Nope. It’s called become Electable. It’s up to Labour what they want to do but we ( electorate) will respond accordingly.

Leavesfalling · 25/11/2025 17:53

CreativeGreen · 25/11/2025 12:31

How?

Better on all metrics. And yes. I know its a surprise.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 25/11/2025 18:19

Just been on BBC. Pensions will rise as will the minimum wage. So, taxes for persons in neither of those categories will have to pay more tax to cover those costs.

Increase in minimum wage is usually followed by employers making people redundant. So, yet more taxes to be paid by those working to cover increased unemployment.

If the two child cap is lifted, many will breed for extra benefits. So, yet more taxes to be paid by those working to fund breeders.

matresense · 25/11/2025 19:38

@MissyB1there’s no way Labour would have got its majority without pretending to be centrist and a safe pair of hands. It will never win from the proper left. So those who now complain about it not being left enough are effectively complaining about not having deceived the electorate into voting for them and then changing the agenda afterwards (which is kind of what KS did to the left in his leadership election, but if he hadn’t, I don’t think Labour would have got elected at all). A lot of people, the types who are deserting to the Lib Dem’s.

Sorry, the last bit of my post didn’t post - meant to say “a lot of people, the types who are deserting for the Lib Dem’s in polls, are not pro more benefits and massively in favour of redistribution. They are centrists who have not forgiven the tories just yet.”
