If you are considering voting for someone else, or not voting at all?

OP posts:
Mushroo · 30/10/2025 10:57

Actually have a policy that isn’t detrimental to my life.

I come from a poor background and now have the audacity to be a 40.% taxpayer.

So far:
Im skint because school fees have increased 20%, which hasn’t benefitted state schools whatsoever, just punished middle earners who already subsidise the whole system.
I paid over £25k in stamp duty last year - which now might get replaced with another property tax, because I dare own standard a family house in the South East.
Tax rates generally look to go up.
My daughter is on a wait list for NHS, it’s over a year so I can’t even access healthcare.
My mortgage rates are probably stagnating as the base rate isn’t going down due to inflation.

Im worried about being taxed even more in the budget and I’ve not heard a single policy being proposed that would improve my life.

Mosaiccat · 30/10/2025 16:08

If I could genuinely see things improving and that changes to our economic outlook were shared equally over society. If I felt like there was any reasonable social contract - ie. benefits available but only last 'x' amount of time, then you can be employed privately or do work for the community. Or that technology and medication was used in a sweeping way to get people back to work.

Like they genuinely believed in their policies and didn't just hate people who were trying to do their best on life and the best for their children.

This man wanted to be deported to avoid more time in gaol. They gave him the money to stop him from claiming asylum.

This is not the case. We have an agreement with Ethiopia to send back asylum seekers if this guy came from another country without an agreement you can bet your house on it he’d be seeing human rights lawyers and still be here.

Precisely. Ban X, reintroduce the Islamophobia legislation and open secure and effective routes for refugees from Gaza. Do what you were voted in to do and ignore the clowns at GB News who will always pitch a fit no matter what you do. After 14 years of Tory austerity the country is crying out for a real left wing government to bring grown up policies to the table.

Sorry but the country is not crying out for “a real left wing government”.

Marylou2 · 30/10/2025 16:39

Sort out immigration/stop the boats. Start finding and deporting people who are here illegally. 500,000 + per year, not one in one out. Stop all housing and benefits to reduce the incentive to come here.
Swift effective inquiry into Rape Gangs and child exploitation with absolutely no excuses for cultural sensitivities or offending groups who may be more likely to support Labour.
Ban 1st cousin marriage. Tired of the toll this taking on poor children of these unions and NHS budgets.
Stop pandering to people who pretend to be women/men. Stop NHS funding for any gender care apart from psychological support.
Keep their promise not to raise tax or if income tax is raised by 1p this would be ringfenced for education.
Make the benefit changes they u- turned on and further reduce aid payments to all but the most poor countries.

IdaGlossop · 30/10/2025 16:42

In three words: get a grip!

The economy, immigration, and public services all in a mess, with no clear idea of goals for each and how to reach them.

Currently:

the economy - Labour doing everything to restrict growth rather than creating a fertile environment for existing and new businesses
immigration - Labour fiddling whilst Rome burns instead of dealing with the out-of-date legislative framework and creating safe and legal routes for crossing the Channel fir asylum seekers to discourage economic migrant
public services - Labour gripping control from the centre when responsibilities need devolving on health and education in particular

Oh you bet your arse it is 💪Have a look at how the Greens and Liberal Democrat’s are doing. Labour will turn it round still, but if for some reason they don’t, one of those two (or possibly even a coalition) will be heading our nation’s government come 2029.

snughugs · 30/10/2025 16:51

Get a grip on immigration. Just end social housing and benefits to people not born in this country for 10 years and paying in should do it.
No stamp duty for over 50 s downsizing
Get control of PIP claims
Have a public health campaign about parenting such as wearing nappies and reaching their milestones and adequately supporting their education to good attainment (disabled exempt of course)
Have a public health campaign about absent parents
Have a public health campaign about what is respectful relationships
Empowered women and girls especially from deprived areas
No digital ID
Encourage more small businesses (when I was 22 I got my first shop). I’ve been self employed since. There were excellent schemes in the 90s under the Tories.
Encourage more home ownership by more lift type schemes for first time buyers.
Start deporting those that have no right to be here.
Increase saving levels for home owners on universal credit so if they need a new roof they can act appropriately
Encourage more social mobility saying young people shouldn’t go to university is definitely one taken on by the poor now. It will leaves those of us with a degree in years to come having something more valuable than it is today (middle classes). The poorest in society won’t be going. Not every child is suited to being a plumber or train driver.

How about checking out how Reform are doing, you seem to be forgetting something.

Mischance · 30/10/2025 16:53

I have little problem with them. Sure they are not doing all the things that I would wish, but then no government ever does.

They beat the previous lot hands down.

Reform are on a downward trend, they’ve hit their ceiling and will not go any higher. Many of their supporters also won’t be around come 2029, and younger people coming of age will all be voting majority left.

It’s really not looking good for your side of the political spectrum, so sorry! 🤗

LlynTegid · 30/10/2025 16:57

Probably several things.

One would be a modern Consumer Act to bring us into the digital age. Examples including no need to have an app to pay for parking, retailers being obliged to give a paper receipt if you want one, and end to utilities having so called appointments that are any time of the day not a 2 hour window.

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/10/2025 16:58

meaningfully & effectively address the illegal immigration situation.

Declare woman = adult human female & affirm that this matters in life and law & it is Labours confirmed policy to protect the class of woman in life and law.

sort out the ridiculous situation around the grooming gang investiagation.

Sadly none of this will happen - Labour are laughably inadequate.

Ah bless you, you're living in a left wing echo chamber. Love that you think all younger people are just like you too.

I'm looking at the seats for LibDems, Greens and Labour and not seeing this grand coalition that you are?

What would this Labour government have to do to change your mind about them?

I don’t know where you got that from but the statistics I saw showed that the Green Party were on about 26% for voting intention and Reform were at 11%.

All this and also sort out law and order, get real crime under control and stop prosecuting people for social media posts.

As they are such a shitshow , resign .

However , no party is any better so have no idea to suggest who can begin to drag us back up .

“Safe routes from Gaza”? You know that first in the queue will be at least half of Hamas.

Echobelly · 30/10/2025 10:05

They'd have to stop repeating bullshit right wing narratives and start refuting them and act accordingly. Eg the problem is not people on benefits or refugees, it's businesses and individuals who are profiting massively off underpaying people and underpaying tax. Addressing that would be a start.

I agree. They need to get back to being left of centre, not right of centre. Stop the dog whistling to try to appease the Reform voters, be an actual option for those of us who believe in proper Labour values.

It wouldn't happen, but for me I would lime to see:

  • Public sector pay rises to bring them in line with where they should have been in terms of inflation after the years of pay freezes.
  • Overhaul the National Curriculum at secondary level and value the arts and vocational qualifications as well as academic ones.
  • Raise taxes for higher earners.
  • Create legal routes for asylum seekers.
  • Raise the state pension age or means test state pension.

Not looking good? Would you say things are looking good for Labour? All the Reform voters will be dead in 3.5 years? Not sure if you really believe what you are saying or whether you’re some kind of wind up merchant.
