Labour Supporters - Do you think it would help if KS was replaced?

I am a life long labour voter. Like many I am incredibly disappointed, in fact I’m devastated by the direction of the current government.

Something needs to change in a pretty radical way or we are opening the door to Deform.

I’m torn between thinking the last thing we need is another revolving door at no 10 but I have lost any confidence that KS is able to lead us out of the mess the tories left us in.

Would it be a good thing to change leaders if this was possible and if so who should it be?

😂

You know it's true. How.can you even find glasses to buy that cost over £2,000.is beyond me! And still look like a robot.

She sold son's trust a share of a house that was grossly over.valued in order to raise enough money for a deposit on her new house; a breach of trust.

She fiddled the council tax.by claiming her houses were each her primary residence.

Just.because she's a laugh doesn't make.her fit for high office. I thought we were supposed to be against politicians who.were on the make, or is it OK if its Labour?

Exactly how I feel. I have been a Labour voter but won’t be again. I know other parties do it (do the wrong thing and then lie about it) but we were promised, amongst other things) a change to all that with Labour. It feels like that was one of many promises made that they can’t keep.

The only time politicians have actually listened to the electorate.and done what they promised is, ironically, after the.Brexit referendum.

Exactly. Like that 350 m/week they plowed straight back into the NHS.

Who said that though? Someone who was in government and had power? Or someone who was at the time effectively just head of a pressure group with no power.

It was that beacon of right-wing morality Boris Johnson, who was a Tory MP at the time.

Surely you recognise the impact of Brexit on our economy, trade, immigration and how limiting that is for any government who is in power in the UK.

And who do you think will be able to take advantage of Brexit and what would that look like in the current social-political global climate? I’m genuinely interested.

He's a toad. They pretty much all are. Only got the job because he is a toad. So what do you want to do, replace him with another toad? Labour have inherited an almost impossible situation. But people should remember that Farage and the Tories got us into this mess. Not Labour, though it was a pretty weak and ineffectual opposition (that I find more irritating TBH), when they should have been scoring home goals. Could it really get any worse than Johnson as PM? So comparatively Labour in whatever form must be an infinite improvement on the Tories or Reform surely? No point swapping Starmer out until a few years down the line. If Labour look like they will get a drubbing, then they certainly should have someone competent waiting in the wing. I'd rather a good cabinet and good policy, with good communication until then.

It's a balance. It's unfortunate that the EU wouldn't.budge on freedom of movement when Cameron tried. It's not so sacrosanct now its in their interests to curb it , so they could have been flexible clearly. They chose not to.be..Boris was an idiot to open the borders. But if we get a sensible government in we might get a sensible immigration policy finally.

The trade deals we've done now we couldn't.do.in the EU. Covid vaccines. The economy.is shite because of Labour. Blah blah...we are out. We voted out. We shoukd never have had a 51%.cut off because it was too close and we have doomed ourselves to arguing about this forever.

The economy is tanking under Labour. Unemployment is rising. Benefits are rising. Immigration is rising. Actually the Conservatives weren't so bad. We just didn't realise it could get a lot worse.

BIossomtoes · 05/10/2025 13:04

Immigration is rising.

It’s not, quite the reverse.

I don't think this has anything to do with Labour, and there is no easy way out. AI is due to replace a huge swathe of the workforce, and it's not being talked about or prepared for in any serious way.

I agree AI is a issue. But so is the Employers NI increase which is a more immediate concern re unemployment I suggest. Partticularly for young people. And that is definitely Labour's responsibility.

AI needs to be discussed but Labour hammering business with NI is no help either.

FilterBubble · 05/10/2025 14:31

Why not just throw NI away and take it out of general taxation?

RobinStrike · 05/10/2025 17:11

I don’t think replacing Starmer now would help. What would help would be what he said right before the election, that they would have a website with their policy intentions and progress listed next to them so people could see what they have done, are working on and not started, with a timeline.
I also think they are going to remain unpopular regardless of leadership until the cost of living and inflation comes down. I have no faith in Reeves, but removing her will alarm the markets. I heard a discussion saying we have the longest tax codes in the world and the politicians in the discussion suggested they should make a huge simplification. In doing the simplification they could roll NI and income tax together, simplify property and IHT and if they did a complete reorganisation they could increase income without breaking their promises.
It would still require the massive changes in benefits that many in the party refuse to support.

Your last sentence pinpoints why we’re heading into national bankruptcy.

Timeforabitofpeace · 05/10/2025 17:42

He’s a real right winger. The latest being his curbs in the right to protest.

Papyrophile · 05/10/2025 17:47

When Labour acknowledge that it is impossible to fund everyone who'd like to draw benefits from the public purse, then we have a chance to start a sensible conversation. Until then, no chance.

RobinStrike · 05/10/2025 17:53

@Timeforabitofpeacedont you think the massive protests against Israel are making British Jews who have nothing to do with the Israeli government feel unsafe-and in fact are unsafe ? What Israel is doing is horrific but what does taking to the streets in the UK do apart from make the streets dangerous for Jewish people living here?
Protest is a right, but surely people living here also have the right to live safely?

@RobinStrike I guess citizens that are unhappy with the UK Governments tacit backing of the genocide should just stay at home and keep schtum then. I don't think people blame the plebs for the mistakes of those in power. But hey: divide and rule, divide and rule.

Timeforabitofpeace · 05/10/2025 20:39

I don’t think it’s true that the people demonstrating are making streets less safe for British Jews. Also, those rights being curbed may used against you and others in future. It’s no way for a labour government to behave. There’s no evidence that the terrible man (and alleged rapist) who killed in Manchester has anything to do with, or is influenced by, those demonstrations.

RobinStrike · 05/10/2025 22:02

I have friends with Jewish family in both Manchester and London. Their children are harassed on their way to school. They are scared going out at night. The antisemitism is pervasive to them. The whole atmosphere has changed for them in this country. They are being blamed for what is happening in Gaza, when they are British.
I don’t accept the government is supporting Israel, it was one of the first to acknowledge the Palestinian state, which Israel criticised as supporting Hamas. They can’t win. I don’t believe the Israeli government care what either our population or our government thinks, but our government has a duty of care over all its citizens, and that includes the Jewish population here.

Timeforabitofpeace · 05/10/2025 22:07

That’s interesting. I don’t disbelieve you. However I have Jewish friends with children too, and they aren’t saying that.

FilterBubble · 05/10/2025 22:10

I've Jewish friends that happily parrot genocidal hate too. It's pervasive. The xenophobic rhetoric is just out of control, that's the cancer.

RobinStrike · 05/10/2025 22:18

I agree. It’s xenophobic, but I can’t see the protests either help the people of Gaza or people here.

Lifeinthepit · 06/10/2025 14:39

The marchers have made their point. Now they need to stop. "From the river to the sea" means wiping out Israel. And "global inifada" means killing Jews. There's no place for these marches in the UK. It's not.a question of freedom of expression when you are supporting a terrorist organisation.
